Felony charges dropped, Darrelle Revis, now wants to play for the Steelers

I'd have to disagree, I'd venture a guess that Artie Burns graded way ahead of Revis last year.

he might play safety here - who knows - bring him in and have a look, don't be afraid of change

I know everyone thinks Steelers players are always better than every player on every other team, but that's how we got such a weak defense, staying the same

I would be fine kicking in a second year with a hefty roster bonus giving us the option of keeping him and him getting guaranteed money early 2018 if we decide he's worth it. The thing is if he doesn't play for a team in 2017 there's no chance he comes back for anything but the league min in 2018. No one is letting him take a year off then break the bank over him.

I'd be fine with bringing Revis in, I just don't see him being better than anything we have. The only problem with moving him to safety is you either bench a guy making somewhere close to 5 mil or bench an up and coming youngster with the potential to only get better. But if Revis gives us better turnover and downfield coverage at the FS position I'm fine with Mitchell having to compete with him, just don't want to stunt Sean Davis's growth

But at the same time some people have a madden mentality and think guys can just be popped into this spot. Safeties play in space, have to aggressively attack the run and play largely on experience and instinct. Corners tend to athlete up and ball. I find it a little hard to believe he is an upgrade over Mitchell and I'm not taking Davis off the field. Sorry. Willie Gay. Maybe sure.

Well, it's all just talk unless/until they bring him in. When's the last time you heard a FA player saying he actually wanted to come to the Steelers?

I'm 100 percent in agreement. When does it ever hurt to investigate. Why wouldn't they? If you are not trying to get better?

the plane should already be in the air!

How many FA players want to choose to come to Pittsburgh anymore?

They KNOW they are coming for cheap - SIGN HIM!

Just sign him. Steelers need defensive depth pronto. Besides, maybe he has a few miles left in the tank

Another one for me is the CFL. The Steelers need to comb that league a little more closely. There is a batch of guys that come out of college. A very few make it to the NFL or are in and out of it. Most go onto a regular life. But you have 9 teams here of 50 some players going into their 30s. Some guys peak early. If you mined one prospect for camp and every two or three years got a roster player. It's basically a free draft pick.

1 year 4 million incentive include 50 K every pass broken up 250 KL for every intc.

Pay him Vet minimum and let the Jets pay the rest!
http://pit.247sports.com/Bolt/Darrelle-Revis-could-play-for-veteran-minimum-in-2017-51804048

Darrelle Revis’ legal issues are in the past thanks to a Pittsburgh court’s ruling this week, and the veteran cornerback’s entire focus now lies in finding a new team to play for in 2017.

He could be a more attractive prospect than originally believed, as NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport noted on Thursday, reporting that Revis could come relatively cheaply.

“Unless a team pays Darrelle Revis more than $6M, he’ll play for the minimum,” Rapoport tweeted. “Why? [The] Jets owe him $6M with offsets. They cover costs up to $6M.”

The Jets released Revis late last month, with a $6 million guarantee remaining on the massive contract they gave him two offseasons ago. Thanks to that guarantee, Revis could theoretically sign with a team for the veteran’s minimum this coming season.

The NFL’s veteran minimum is around $1 million this season for a player with 10 years experience, a jump from $985,000 in 2016, and is expected to rise again in 2018.

Revis’ previous contract stipulates that the Jets will receive a credit for any money that he should make elsewhere this season: So, for example, if Revis signed with a team for $1 million in base salary, the Jets would owe Revis $5 million, not $6 million.

Should Revis score more than $6 million somewhere, the Jets owe him nothing.

Will there be a team willing to take a chance on him?

What are we waiting for....Ink him to a 1 year 6.5 million....

Matter of fact, I'm officially signing off on it....

Boy the other report dropped the ball. He wants to play in Pittsburgh sign him now to a two year deal one for league min next for some cash that can be dropped if you want to cut him.. Bring him to camp and cut if he sucks.

makes no sense.
why pay him $6 mil when the Jets will be paying him $6mil?
as said - 1 year, $1 mil, let the Jets pay the other $5 mil

Ravens making the moves we should be making

Ravens sign Brandon Carr to four-year deal

Ravens signed CB Brandon Carr, formerly of the Cowboys to a four-year contract.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, it's actually a one-year deal with a "series of options." Schefter said it's most realistically called a two-year, $12 million contract. ESPN Dallas' Todd Archer opined in early February that keeping Carr should be a "priority" for the Cowboys, but there had been few updates on his status since. He was allowed to hit the open market with little fanfare.

Carr never quite lived up to his monster, five-year contract in Dallas, but was a solid starter. He helps stabilize a secondary that's been uneven in recent years.

Revis can reject offers for less than $6 million, without consequence

Revis has some protection against lack of interest; his contract with the Jets pays him $6 million fully guaranteed for 2017. The Jets have protection against his protection. The $6 million payment contains offset language, creating a dollar-for-dollar credit based on anything Revis earns elsewhere.

But what if Revis is offered only $4 million? Can he choose to do nothing and take $6 million from the Jets in lieu of taking the offer — and helping the Jets save $4 million?

Per a source with knowledge of the Revis contract with the Jets, it contains no language requiring him to accept other work. This means that he can choose to reject any offer that he receives, and that the Jets can’t try to reduce their obligation to him if he opts not to take whatever he can get.

For Revis, then, the question becomes whether he’d play for less than what he’d get for not playing, whether he’d play for the same as what he’d get for not playing, and possibly whether he’d choose to take $6 million not to play versus, say, $8 million to play.

Ultimately, the Jets are on the hook for $6 million unless he signs a new contract.

"Not happening, folks"

Yeah because, ya know, bringing a guy into a camp who could potentially upgrade a position of need, who wants to play for you, with another team picking up the tab? Sounds too risky and aggressive and costly for the "Steeler Way" Jesus ******* Christ if we just dismiss this without even trying? Why?! What do we have to lose? I ******* hate these people sometimes

That ******* is wrong about everything.

Also, relax lol.. signing Revis isn't gonna make much of a difference. Still a 32 year old who was smoked repeatedly last season.

We shall see what happens. He would need to take a hometown discount. Would be cool to have Revis but his best days are well behind him, and so are the receivers.

Not holding my breath.

I was all for this the last few times he was a free agent. He wanted nothing to do with us. Let someone else sign him they can get older, I think smart fans can agree we need to get younger.

Do you really think he's signing for anything less than $6 mil? To lose out on guaranteed millions because "gosh, what a great opportunity for a hometown kid to come home and help solidify that Pittsburgh secondary!"...?

If he doesn't play this season, I see retirement is in view.

Salute the nation

He's gonna be a Steeler next week. Based on MTC intuition. I could be wrong so don't take me seriously atm
