2017 Free Agent rumors and news

Says who? He's not as good as Bouye, Butler, or Gilmore, but he's not far off, I would've loved if they signed him. Why do you want Hightower at 10 million?

He immediately improves the defense and fixes the glaring hole that Timmons left.

And I say that because you've bitched about every single move so far.

So long, Dontari? Chiefs sign Bennie Logan

Chiefs signed DT Bennie Logan, formerly of the Eagles, to a one-year contract.

Logan's addition means free agent Dontari Poe is likely to walk. Logan can slide right in at nose tackle. He's a downgrade, but not a particularly steep one.

Every single move???? You mean resigning Jones and Johnson? I loved letting Timmons go, so I didn't ***** about that. I've bitched about the moves they didn't make.
Why would you pay Hightower 10 million? The dude should be a two down LB, not an every down guy.

Spike calls us dreamers for wanting this or that free agent,

but even with a visit, it seems like in this instance it is a pretty big dream.

Not sure I would give him 10 mil. But perhaps a 1 year contract with incentives mixed in that he could earn that, that would favor him wanting to stay.

In reality I expect the Steelers and Jets to set his market value for his return to the cheats.

and to be fair there is a lot of Steelers fans upset at the lack of movement within this free agency.

Thankfully they have four visits today, and upcoming that will ease the majority of fans frustrations.

Exactly why they should at least make an offer to Butler, even if it's just to force NE's hand like they did with us and Sanders a few seasons back.

A two down linebacker??? Why?

You bitched about Antonio Brown and Bell.

Two downs? Seriously? The guy is probably the best all-around inside linebacker in the game and is capable in coverage and rushing the passer. Definitely a three-down player that would easily provide an upgrade over Timmons/Williams.

I've officially learned to stop checking every couple of hours to see if there is a new development or a sneaky free agent puzzle piece...
It is like me getting credit for being a contributer. **** just doesn't happen.
Prepare yourself for Jarvis and his second contract. Hey. He knows the system!

I said they shouldn't give Bell a long contract not because he's not good, but because Tomlin will run him into the ground, how is that bitching? I said they are a better team with AB, but should let him play his final year to see if he grows up, again that's not bitching just because I don't say how great they are 24/7.

Hightower ran a 4.68 forty, the guy is 265lbs, hasn't had 100 tackles since 2014, the most solo tackles he's ever had was 65, and he's only been over 60 other time. Timmons first season as a full time starter he had 68, and has blown that away ever since. Hightower has 17 career sacks in 5 seasons. I have no idea where anyone thinks this guy is a force, hell I think Timmons is just as good still.
Hey if you guys want to stick to this Neanderthal defense where all 4 LBs never leave the field, then Hightower is your man, but I guarantee the top qb's we play this year target him all day in the passing game

**** anyone from the patises....

It would be awesome if Bell was healthy a whole ******* season...plus the playoffs

Timmons first 5 years (not counting 2007 )
78 games 477 tackles 23 sacks

Hightower
67 games 372 tackles 17 sacks

So he would be almost near Timmons in tackles had he not missed 11 games to injury.

Timmons was surrounded by elite talent from 08-10/11 . Hightower not so much. Traded away all his counter parts .

So now Belicheat isn't a defensive genius? How do the solo tackle numbers look? Again this is a passing league now, a 265lb ILB is not what we need, this isn't 2001. You guys really want to pay a guy 10 million that's more of a run stopper and not that good in coverage or rushing the passer?

So Belichick is a defensive genius... So therefore Hightower was a dominant LB. .. this isn't 2001 anymore so 265lb middle linebackers don't work now? But the Pats just won two SBs? So what works?

Ideally we would use a db or a fast ILB to cover people. Hightower isn't that.

We won a super bowl with a trash Oline, does that mean they were good? Also they have a shut down corner, and actually adjust, although those rbs for Atlanta were gashing them.
Out 4.3 MLB is covering people, but when the other ILB that is ****** in coverage doesn't leave the field, teams will go after him all day, as they would Hightower. I'd love to have Hightower if I knew he wouldn't play a ton on passing downs, but you can't pay him 10 million for that

I may be crazy here, but is it just POSSIBLE that part of the problem was that the Steeler DBs and LBs were 7 to 10 yards off the line of scrimmage pretty much the entire game and Brady threw about 80% of his passes less than 10 feet in the air?

Is it just possible that our defensive coordinator is functionally retarded? I'm just wondering?

It may also be possible that one receiver dropped a pass on the 3rd play of the game that put the team withing FG range. And another receiver dropped not one but TWO touchdown passes in the endzone. And a 3rd receiver dropped ANOTHER touchdown pass. And the offensive coordinator called the most horrific series of plays EVER on a goal-line series that ended up netting a FG instead of a TD.

So maybe, just maybe there were a bunch of things that lead to losing that game. Not the least of which was stubborn coaching decisions, terrible offensive skill position play, horrible management of Leveon Bell leading up the to the AFCC game, a grotesque over-reliance on Bell that failed to make use of the other receivers and exploit potential weaknesses in other teams' defensive strategies, and an absolute insane and ridiculous approach to a defensive game plan that has failed over and over again.

But you know, whatever.

Butler, Saints discussing contract

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports restricted free agent CB Malcolm Butler and the Saints have opened contract negotiations.

Rapoport adds the two sides "hope to strike a deal this week." There are not many other reasons for Butler to be visiting the Saints except to work on a deal, but this is notable nevertheless. The Saints would owe New England the No. 11 overall pick if the Patriots decline to match an offer sheet, but that is likely more than they are willing to pay. The two sides will likely try to work out a trade.

Part of the problem with our LB's is that they end up covering WR's way too often. That doesn't work just like having our d-linemen drop back in coverage doesn't work. Not sure if any other team plays this way but we sure do. That and only rushing 2 d-linemen.

Looks like he's taking his game to Arizona.
