Coolie pimps UH players

Bowser based on his name alone. Lol. Decent size for an outside guy. 249lbs. He can still add size too. So pimp him hard Coolie

I am going to.....he moves well, likely because his first two years on campus he was also playing power forward on the basketball team. He played in 8 games and had 8.5 sacks.....that is not too bad. missing time because a teammate broke his orbital bone during a "fun" day on the practice field hurt his stats and the team obviously missed him on the field

Career: Closed out his career ranked seventh on the Houston career sacks lists with 21.5, part of his 27.5 career tackles for loss and 136 tackles. He started 23 games in his career with action in 48 games total. He also had eight pass breakups, two interceptions, three forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries in his four-year career at UH.

2016: Started all eight games he saw action in ... missed five games due to a fractured orbital bone ... finished second on the team with 12 tackles for loss, a number that ranked ninth in The American ... third in The American and tied for the team lead with 8.5 sacks ...

spent a good amount of time dropping into coverage also.....not a superb cover guy and will need some coaching up in the NFL, but has the ability to cover both TEs and RBs out of the backfield Playing basketball limited his development on the football field and I think he has a lot of upside with good coaching....and following Harrison around all day.....

Likely second day choice....pre combine I would say late 3rd rounder.....if he tests out well, with his build he could move up.....

Sporting News has Bowser rising after the combine and going to the Steelers at #30......

Brandon Wilson - I love how versatile this kid is. Left his starting CB spot and player RB very well with just 4 days to get ready....awesome team player. Would love to see a late round pick spent on this guy....he would have to be better than anyone the Steelers tried at kick returner last season and with Ayers handling Punt returns, that would be one less worry for the team I don't think he would be good out on an island, but put him in the slot position and he could be solid

Howard. Seems like Howard didn't let the injury hamper him down either. The guy seems solid and I envision a scrappy DB

Story about Sporting News mock draft
http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...raft-steelers-choose-houston-olb-tyus-bowser/

Another new name thrown into the first round conversation for the Pittsburgh Steelers and whadda know, it’s another outside linebacker. Sporting News’ Eric Galko unveiled his mock draft today and has the Steelers selecting Houston OLB Tyus Bowser with the 30th overall pick.

His brief explanation.

“Bowser is set to be one of the biggest risers in the draft process, so get to know him now. He can fit a 3-4 or a 4-3 defense and is a worthwhile first-round prospect. The Steelers need to find a viable James Harrison replacement.”

Galko and other scouts have quietly been talking Bowser up over the past few weeks as someone whose stock is “rising,” meaning, the media is catching up to what scouts actually think of him.

Though the name might feel foreign and too much of a reach, it has logic to it. Bowser’s usage is similar to Bud Dupree’s and he’s less of a projection than most of these other guys. Check out my whole profile on Bowser here, we’ll link it at the bottom too, but here’s what I wrote comparing him to Dupree.

“But it should be noted that Bowser had a lot on his plate and didn’t get to just go forward and be a “true” pass rusher, either. Again, similar to Dupree, and the stats are sorta similar to. Dupree with 39.5 TFL, 25.5 sacks, Bowser 27.5/21.5.”

And heck, Dupree is probably going to be considered even more raw than Boswer since Kentucky didn’t really have the coaching staff to support and teach him like they have in the NFL. Bowser makes a lot of sense.

Well then. Give us stats, and your round projections for Coolies unofficial white pimp cane award.

C'mon, you don't really expect that, do you? Coolie just has an eternal hard-on for all things "houston cougars", and he's going to make sure you know about it 24/7.

so you post this after I give stats and where I think they will go pre-combine....

not sure why you get so bitchy when I pimp UH Cougars....and I really don't give a ****. As I have said before, UH is the team I watch the most. I see the good and bad in the players weekly. Others here pimp guys from their favorite schools, but I guess since UH is not in a Power 5 conference I should just sit and stay quiet about them.

Last year I pimped William Jackson III....who before UH's pro day, I thought would be a stretch in the 2nd round....he flashed his skills and was taken a pick before the Steelers slot in round 1....unfortunately for him he got hurt in training camp and was put on IR....

I made several posts supporting Ayers after he was drafted, unluckily for him he sprained his ankle in training camp. He fought through it and did not miss time but ended up on the practice squad. When he finally was promoted he did make some plays and showed toughness blocking on running plays also....

I am going to continue pimping UH players, it is not like I make confusing thread titles...it is obvious what I am posting about, so if you don't want to read about UH players just don't open the threads.....

just for Omar...some highlights of Greg Ward Jr....since the Steelers met with him

He is switching to WR, but this shows a lot of his running ability

Kiper has us taking Bowser in his 3rd mock. Dreams can come true.

never thought I'd say this, but Kiper is really a brilliant guy.....

UH Pro day is Monday.....will be interesting to see how Steven Taylor and Brandon Wilson do in front of the scouts.....

http://www.khou.com/news/local/wilson-star-of-uhs-pro-day-blazes-through-40-yard-dash/426014341

Cornerback Brandon Wilson was the star of Houston’s pro day in front of scouts from all 32 National Football League teams.

Wilson blazed through his 40-yard dash in 4.36 seconds.

He also scored huge points in the bench press (24 reps) and vertical jump (41 inches); his measurements would have led all cornerbacks at the NFL Combine. His broad jump of 11-1 would have ranked second in his position group and his 40-yard dash would have ranked third, according to the university.

Chance Allen, Tyus Bowser, Ty Cummings, Cameron Malveaux, Tyler McCloskey, B.J. Singleton, Steven Taylor, Greg Ward Jr., and Howard Wilson also took part in Monday's activities.

Ward led the way in the pro agility and 3-cone drills with times of 4.29 and 6.96. Howard Wilson led Monday's group in the 60-yard shuttle with a time of 11.38.

follow the link and watch the video of his 40.....the kid is ready to do some *** kicking....5'11' 200# and runs a 4.36........

You can sort of scout him (Brandon Wilson) in the film for Howard Wilson. He is #26.

http://draftbreakdown.com/video/howard-wilson-vs-tulsa-2016/

My opinion is the athleticism doesn't quite translate to the field. As you can see he mostly played slot coverage (which can be good) but he's a bit stiff in his hips and not sure he'll ever be an outside the numbers type of player. Houston often blitzed him from the slot.

That said, he's not completely a lost cause. He could be a decent depth slot defender and maybe even move to safety. He is certainly fast/strong enough to be a good coverage player and contribute on special teams. He also returns kicks.

Not the worst film I've ever watched. I'll add him to this list and see if he gets drafted.

Brandon played outside more as a junior than a senior he had some injury issues his senior season.....his willingness to do anything to win is what I like. He said at his pro day that he went through the DB drills and then some teams wanted him to run through RB drills also. he had 24 reps @ 225#, a 41" vertical and a 11-1 broad jump.....

His first start at RB since High School was in his junior year against Navy. He rushed for over 100 yards after having just a few days to get ready since it was a short week for the team.

That Tulsa game was Brandon's first one back after missing 3 games with an injury.....he has better film out there

Brandon Wilson getting some attention....bungles, raiders and ******* patsies

Last season he was almost totally in the slot...but he dealt with some injuries and I think it showed....he played both slot and outside as a junior, plus filing in on offense.....the fact that what he is most proud of his time at UH is that he actually got his degree says something about the kid.....

http://www.cincyjungle.com/2017/4/5/15187352/brandon-wilson-houston-cornerback-bengals

The Bengals drafted a cornerback out of Houston in Round 1 of the 2016 NFL Draft and it appears the team is interested in another Cougars defensive back in 2017. Cincinnati had a private meeting with Houston's Brandon Wilson and will be bringing him to Cincinnati for an official pre-draft visit.

The 5’11”, 200 pound cornerback played in the 2017 NFLPA Bowl, was an All-AAC second team selection, named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List, and is a former teammate and friend of Bengals cornerback William Jackson III.

But, Wilson isn’t only a defensive playmaker, he also contributed on offense and special teams at Houston. In 2015, he actually had 188 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 37 carries as well as 49 yards on six catches. He was used less on offense in 2016, but still recorded some statistics with four rushing attempts for six yards and five catches for 52 yards. He’s a dynamic special teams player, too. In 2015 he had 23 kickoff returns for 611 yards (26.6 average) and 2 touchdowns. And in 2016 he contributed 21 kickoff returns for 510 yards (24.3 average). He played in 49 games during his college career, and on defense, finished out his career with 81 tackles, 17 tackles for loss, four sacks, five pass breakups and three fumble recoveries (one for a touchdown).

Aaron Jones worth a look from Bengals after monster year at UTEP

Bengals shouldn’t prioritize drafting a receiver early

During his college career, Wilson scored eight touchdowns, in six different ways, in addition to a missed field goal return against Oklahoma. In 2015, he was the only player in the nation to score multiple touchdowns in all three phases of the game with two touchdowns each on offense, defense and special teams. That’s no easy feat and the accomplishment has him garnering recognition as the draft approaches. Beyond the Bengals, he has privately met with the Patriots and Dolphins and will also have a team visit with the Raiders and Texans, in addition to attending Houston’s local pro day.

We spoke with Wilson to get to know the dynamic playmaker ahead of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Cincy Jungle: The Bengals drafted William Jackson III in round 1 last year out of Houston. What was it like playing with him?

Brandon Wilson: It was great playing with Will. I always talk to him and he’s a great guy, just seeing him and where he’s at right now, it motivates me and lets me know I can do it also. He’s someone I really look up to.

CJ: What do you want NFL fans — and coaches — to know about you?

BW: I can play offense, defense and special teams, I can fit in anywhere. And that I have what it takes to play at the next level.

CJ: What kind of work have you done on special teams?

Special teams kickoff returns are what I did at Houston for the last two years. I’ve also done punt returning and been on both special teams coverage units. I’d have no problem with playing special teams in the NFL. I always say, the more you can do the better.

CJ: How are you preparing for the draft?

BW: I went to the NFLPA Bowl and talked to scouts and played in the game with two of my teammates, Greg (quarterback Greg Ward Jr.) and Cam (defensive end Cameron Malveaux). A lot of the guys I train with were there, too, and it was a really great game and fun experience.

I’ve just been working and grinding and getting my body healthy and prepared for whatever is coming my way.

CJ: How was your pro day?

BW: I think I did pretty good for myself at my pro day and ran a 4’3” and did 24 times on the bench press. I feel like I did good for myself. It was fine.

Editor’s note: Wilson did way better than “fine” at his pro day.

40 time - 4.36 seconds
Bench press - 24 reps
Vertical jump - 41"
Broad jump- 11'1”
3-cone drill- 7.07 seconds
20-yard shuttle - 4.31 seconds

If he were at the Combine, that would have ranked him tied for third among cornerbacks in 40-yard time (and tied for fifth overall among all position groups), tied for fourth among cornerbacks in the vertical jump and tied for fifth among cornerbacks in broad jump. His pro day may have pushed him up many teams’ draft boards into the early Day 3 range.

CJ: How do you think coming out of Houston after a year where there was significant hype surrounding the program impacts you in preparing for the draft?

BW: I feel like it’s just showing that we actually have players who can play in the NFL. Some people downplay us in the AAC. But I feel like we’ve shown that guys out of Houston have what it takes to play at the next level.

CJ: How would you describe yourself and the way you play to someone who had never seen you play before?

BW: I’m a fast guy. On defense I’m physical, not scared to hit anybody. As a returner I’m a one of a kind go guy. I can run the ball, I can do it all.

CJ: Which NFL players do you most enjoy watching?

BW: I like watching Patrick Peterson, Adrian Peterson and Devin Hester.

CJ: What are you most proud of from your time in college?

BW: Graduating from college. I was the first one in my household to graduate and I feel like me doing that, the impact on my younger siblings, just showing them that they can go out and achieve their dreams and not just my siblings but everyone from the neighborhood I come from.
