Williams 'realistic that something will workout with someone'
DeAngelo Williams is optimistic that he will find a good situation for himself and his career for the 2017 season.

DeAngelo Williams is confident that someone will sign him before the start of the 2017 season.

Williams, who spent his past two years with the Steelers after spending his first nine seasons with the Panthers, will become a free agent on March 9. He shared his thoughts about his free agency with his Twitter followers on Tuesday.

While he didn't say where he would prefer to play, Williams wrote the following when asked if he would consider coming to Houston:

Williams also shot down any chance of returning the Panthers, as he is currently the franchise's leading rusher.

Mike Tomlin, when asked about Williams' future in Pittsburgh, made it clear that he would like No.34 to be back in the black and gold for the 2017 season. Tomlin also acknowledged, however, that Williams' future in Pittsburgh may very well come down to what happens at the negotiation table between the Steelers and Williams' representatives.

"I have an indication (that Williams wants to return), but again, none of those decisions occur in a vacuum," Tomlin said during his season-ending press conference, via Steelers.com. "Free agency is what it is. It's free for him, it's free for us. We'll assess it and see if the two sides can come together and do business again. I know it was a pleasant experience, the two years that he's been a part of this."

The Steelers are 10-4 in games Williams has started since the 2015 season. He's amassed 1,750 all-purpose yards and 17 touchdowns while helping the Steelers go 21-11 over the past two regular seasons.

Outstanding numbers while playing for the Black & Gold. You can't seldomly find that in the FA pool on the cheap as the Steelers did, we got lucky

You can usually tell who the Steelers want to keep. Sure he is a quality back. But he is a little injury prone at this stage in his career. And with Bells propensity to get hurt late. I think you need some fresh legs. And we know croissant is barely making it at the breakfast table.

If he doesn't resign the Steelers will likely look for a veteran back somewhere in free agency. Tousaint isn't really cutting it and a rookie might not either. Perhaps they could work a deal with Tennessee and bring in Henry!

puff ....puff...pass

And he will probably sign somewhere as a back up.

I'm not real thrilled with what the guys behind Williams have shown. I'd sign him for another year and draft a RB in the mid to late rounds with hopes he can be a good back up and even potential starter in a year.

Thank you D'will for what you have contributed to the STEELERS and fans. Sorry you're a 34year old RB as that means the ship has sailed. We can draft a back up. We got EXTREMELY lucky on his signing and doubt we can duplicate that, in the vacuum of free agency. You know what they say, rather a year early than a year late. This last season was his middle year.

Salute the nation

I would consider signing Williams somewhat of a priority. I don't want to waste a draft pick on RB He is here he knows the offense, he would probably be fairly cheap. I love Bell, but he will get hurt at some point this coming year.

That's true. We can almost count on Bell getting hurt sometime next season as Haley has no idea how to use him intelligently.

"Hey, let's run him 35 times a game and see if he can break 250 yards!"

"What? He's hurt? It's only week 7. ****!"

I would sign him to a 1-year deal. He's such a solid individual. Works hard. Shows the young guys how to do it.

If anything, when you draft a guy, let the guy pushed out the door be Toussaint, Richardson or Williams. I've seen enough of them to know what is there.

I agree with the possibility of adding another running back in the draft, but I wouldn't force the issue. If a good one is available in round 5-6, go for it, but why HAVE to? If you sign Williams and keep Toussaint under contract, you are fine for 2017. Let it at that and then hope something good happens in the draft, THEN make your decision.

Think he's one of the good guys and he put in some damn fine work for us, but time to go to the draft and get younger at the position.

He knows he is a backup wherever he goes; he is a character guy at a position with Bell and probably a rookie and one of Croissant, Richardson or Williams. He would be great to sign cheaply, bring thru camp, and then if the coaches feel he is too expensive as insurance, simply cut him late. This is likely to be his fate anywhere, so it might as well be here....

Glad to hear his coming back..

Love his leadership!

Lord know this team needs it.

True but there are only so many roster spots. We've seen quite a few RBs do very well behind good OLs without being drafted high. I think that's where our focus needs to be in this draft. If we can find a compliment to Bell so we don't run him until the wheels come off that would be ideal and then you have that young kid locked in at a low price for several years. We know Toussaint is never going to be that guy backing up Bell here.

Look in the draft for a RB. Steelers need a young one behind Bell. I like DeAngelo, but as stated by a previous poster. He's getting up there in age. The Steelers are good at finding RB's that can contribute

I try to sign DW to a one-year deal and then find a third option in the draft. I think the running back class is deep enough this year that the Steelers will be able to find a quality option on day three. As Del said, we've seen enough of the other guys to know they aren't viable options to be the primary backup.

I think it's time to move on. We can find a quality RB in round 3 or 4 of the draft. Love what Williams was able to bring, but with Bell's injury history I would prefer a younger backup who could also do something on special teams.

Was lucky enough to meet D Will last summer. He was a genuine good dude and very friendly. Hope he returns to the 412
