So who goes this offseason?

I'm positive I can come up with 90 NFLers better than Coates

I think he was just referring to the off season roster expansion. I'm having a hard time getting behind Coates, and think he's not going to be more than a disappointment, but I think del means he should atleast make it to camp as he's one of the top 90 Steelers on the roster.

Yes. I thought that was obvious, but I guess I misspoke.

You are allowed 90 guys under contract throughout the off-season. Only the top-51 count against your salary cap.

There is no reason Coates is not going to be one of those 90 people. He offers NO savings vs. a minimum salary rookie in terms of cap dollars (he would have some dead money if released). He's under contract for two more seasons of his rookie 4-year deal.

Of course he's coming back. Jesus.... If he drops everything during preseason and camp, we'll revisit the idea of picking the best 53-guys for this team and whether he's one of them or not, but why eliminate him as an option NOW? In January of February?

Coates is DHB without the hands. No use in being open if yinz cannot catch. Coates = Sweed. Always open but drops the ball

I can honestly say that I never would have thought that I would have missed Markus Wheaton until this year. Wheaton is no more than a #3, and when he was on the field he had his issues this season(drops against the iggles), but even his consistent presence would have been a huge upgrade for us. I don't think people realize just how big the drop was for our receivers from AB to Rogers, Coates/Sweed, and DHB this season. When healthy and not suspended, the Steelers have the best receiving corps in the game. AB, Bryant, Wheaton, Rogers, Coates, Ayers, DHB. Taks Bryant and Wheaton out, move those other guys up, and expect them to perform to their status on the depth chart, and you get what we had this season. It really is incredible we got to where we were this season with, essentially, one wide receiver.

Coates never should have been playing with the hand injury if it was THAT significant.

Jarvis gone, period. That Bust has left the museum.

Bell is a keeper, Tagged for sure. Brown was promised a contract, if he's not coming back, why would Ben consider returning?

Haley ain't goin nowhere but it would be fitting for a Philips to get a ring with this franchise. More than one way to "Kick down that Door".

Ladarius Green
Sammie Coates
Senquez Golsen
Jarvis Jones.

If they're still under contract, package em up if you can by golly! Maybe we can get on decent pick or player out of all of them. Course nobody in their right mind would touch Green, or Golsen.

Golson is just like Coates. There is no reason to terminate or release him until you have to decide on your final-53 man roster September 1, 2017. None.

We are a LONG way from deciding whether these guys should be part of our best-53. And I have no problems if you want to hedge your bets and bring in competition at those positions (something we likely will do anyways). But this talk of "releasing" people and 100% sure these guys are gone is just ludicrous.

Jarvis Jones is not under contract in 2017. So unless we transition tag him or something, come March 1, 2017 (the start of the new fiscal NFL season) he is no longer a Pittsburgh Steeler. Just let nature takes its course on that. No need to talk about Jarvis Jones unless we SIGN HIM like any other possible free agent. Same as Lawrence Timmons (who no one is talking about).

Ladarius Green is an interesting case. I wasn't nearly as high on his signing as many here. I traded back and drafted Hunter Henry in my draft for this team. He signed a 4-year deal with $4.75 million signing bonus. That means we've only counted $1.1875 million of that signing bonus on our salary cap books and $3.562 million is "left". Green is also scheduled to make a whopping $5 million in base salary next year. Based on his production this year, he's not worth that.

If we designate Green a post-June 1st release, we will save that $5 million base salary on our 2017 salary cap, but we will have $2.375 million in dead money for 2018.

If we keep him as-is, he's counting $6.187 million on the books (although I think we can afford that).

Had me until Green. I much rather cut him, and then free agency try again. That cat is softer than a babies ***. I am convinced you won't get more than three games out of him at this point..............

As for who stays no matter what, it's a short list.

Colbert who has done a good job in the last two drafts and Munchak who could be the best Offensive line coach in the game STAY.

As for who goes, its start with Ben first. After that, we can pick the best course of action.

My dream scenario, which will likely never happen it to it this.

1 ) Ben stays!

2 ) Tomlin is traded for draft picks. Bill Cowher offered the role of head coach with a three year deal, if he declines, give Munchak a few interviews. If Munchak is not deemed ready, we get the pick of the litter for coaches to hire.

3 ) Bell is re-signed to a 1-2 year franchise tag deal with incentives that say no suspension and 14 games played = a bonus

4 ) Haley leaves. Had it with him. He's a money on a racehorse who can look great due to the talent, but if his stallion gets into trouble early, he can not guide him out of it.

5 ) Bryant gets his life back and passes all drug tests. He is a true back breaker type with Randy Moss type of talent.

6 ) Brown? I'm divided. He's great, but only proven great with Ben ( he's Joe average with Landry ) and has become a diva level type of distraction. Brown's game isn't built on size or speed, its quickness, and that can go first with age.

If someone offers two first round pick, and a third with the 1st and 3rd being a top 12 pick in the round for 2017 for Brown...I'd really have to think about it.

7 ) Draft for defense again, unless Brown leaves, then pick a WRwith one of the first round picks.

Have you found this "pick of the litter" who can match Tomlin's record so far?

If you're not good enough to play press/man coverage you should be gone by last preseason game next year. I'm at odds with Green. He was busted goods from the start. The predictability of the offense and defense needs to be addressed big time.

I think the O will be less predictable with Bryant back, But on D, unless you get the few parts needed. Not sure how it will improve significantly.

You need at least one pass rusher one cover corner.

On O a replacement for Green.

Nothing against Jesse, as I like him. But he isn't a top ten TE.

Not that he needs to go anywhere Steelers like to have two capable TEs.

I wonder if Timons will be on the roster this fall??? DEBO too???? We have some things to sort out and I'm one for cutting LG at the "nature" timing of that.

Salute the nation

think both will be back...............

gone
jones Thomas gay has to fight off at least 2-3 guys in camp Gilbert Golsen and a rook.
rnd 1 1-2 D again more 4-3 players try going hard to get Feeney back.
Bell 4 years 55 mill
Brown 3 40 mill

Timmons 2 years 7 mill
With Ben's age our window is 2-3 years time to spend and go for it hard next year we need home team, and a time that is put out there that should go between 14-2- 13-3 all roads via Heinz
take a look at JPP could if 3-4 stays rush from the edge or give us great chance to run a complete 50-50 mix of 3-4 and 4-3.
