Curious what everyone thinks of Keith Butler as our DC moving forward? For me I know he took over basically a rebuild and had them playing pretty good the 2nd half of the season but nothing spectacular. Not to beat a dead horse but IMO he had the completely unprepared and never made the necesary adjustments in such a big game. Do we stick with him another year and try to add some more pieces or cut our losses? Would making a change in a coach really help?

Nothing against Butler, in that I don't hate the guy, but I wouldn't mind seeing someone come in from outside the organization. A fresh perspective on D would be welcome at this stage.

Doesn't matter if Tomlin doesn't let the guy do his job, the crap D we played had Tampa 2 written all over it, which is the exact opposite of what Butler likes to do

I'd fire him. We will never get past the Pats**** with him running the defense just like LeBeau before him.

Weird. I was thinking it had the classic Dick look to me. Complete with the ten yard cushions all day. Heck. I even kept looking to see if they showed a glimpse of the sides lines ......where I totally expected to see Dick himself standing there.

Also I thought someone posted an article on here basically saying Tomlin gave complete control to his coordinators.

Hopefully Brady will break a hip this year and be done. I think we can beat any other team in the league or at least have a decent shot. That team is jut in their heads and makes them stupid. I think they tried reverse reverse psychology. It is like Butler is the guy from Princess Bride. "Don't mess with a Scicillian especially when death is on the line" "You have a truly dizzying intellect"
He is like you only think I am going to change because it is what you expect so I am not going to change what we do and that will be the change.

Butler will be here for a long time.

The defense is heavily predicated in getting 3rd and longs. Guys like Brady just live on that cause they are rarely in third and long. I don't know. I might not sure if they have the players to play a more aggressive defense. It's easy for us to say. And they did really play excellent right up till NE. Almost every defense has an antidote. This defense is better against physical teams not finesse.

In the cover 2 (Tampa 2 as you referred to it) and Man 2, both have the DBs within 5 yds of the WR (with the exception of masked coverage, but it's rare to see CBs beyond 5 yds away from the WRs). What we saw was clearly Cover 3, 4, and some Cover 6.

Yeah true, the Tampa 2 the CBs jam the wr, then fall back into a zone, and the LBs fall back into a zone as well, so I guess jamming the WR's would've been a legit tampa 2. We still had our best pass rushers in coverage most of the game

I have no issue with our coaches. I DO have issue with the gameplan they implemented v NE Sunday night. Common sense says let them beat us man v man v tearing up a soft zone with no pressure.

They are scared of Brady ..they would rather the slow painful death instead of going after him. There is no doubt just about everyone here would rather that quick death at least if we die we die with guns a blaze

He can be gone for all I care. It's great when we can look great on D against the Browns, the Bungles without AJ Green, the Giants with no run game.. But if we literally don't even have a chance of beating New England, that's a huge problem

We need to jam the receivers at the line then go after the QB

Agreed but the problem was when your dropping your two best pass rushers (Dupree & Harrison) in coverage constantly it's hard to get a consistent pass rush. Trying to get cute and constantly bring a safety blitz with Davis doesn't help either.

I can'T blame him, when I see what we have as defensive bscks. Can'T play tight coverage when your players can'T do it.

I have said it before....The jury is still out but in all fairness, it's hard to play chess without all the pieces on the board to start with.

Hard to say about butler since we do not know who installed or checked off on the gameplan. That being said the no adjustment thing is ridiculous. It was obvious after the first Drive it was not going to work. They should have had plan B especially knowing our history against the pats. Here is what I would have tried. Use 3 people like safeties middle / left / right. Let the CBs play man, but tight. If they are still hitting underneath stuff move the safeties up. Last but not least do not put harrison aND Dupree in coverage!

3cbs, 3 safeties, 1 MLB, 2 OLB, 2 Dt/de for a standard 3wr set

It's just frustrating to know that out of 16 possible draft picks (Rounds 1 & 2) we have gone defense 10 times in the past 8 years, and we are still talking about the same crap. No pass rush and getting gashed in the passing game. Don't get me wrong I don't think we have missed out on all those picks and in reality, 6 out of those 10 picks have panned out and think will go on too long successful careers. But we can't keep investing every year in the first two rounds on defense and keep getting the same crap. Again everyone has us drafting defense again with the first two picks at least, and at some point, everything needs to start coming together. Butler needs to take some responsibility as well knowing he's been on staff forever and probably had a say so on some of those picks we made. It's not like he's inherited a team he wasn't familiar with and had some hand on.

Butler deserves credit for getting the defense turned around this season. To me, it didn't seem like the same kick *** defense it was becoming. They were playing as if Bellicheck had the green notebook and Tomlin put his nose into the defensive plan.

Form now on I think it would be best if they ran all game plans and personnel decisions by me first. I can keep them from doing some dumb ****.

Butler has been around DL / system to long. He is only going to do what he is comfortable with and definately will NOT stand up against the head coach. I wanted new blood.

Nothing makes me more irritated than looking at the screen and seeing the opposing wideout and not even being able to SEE the cornerback in the field of view. Particularly on a 3rd and 5!

YOU and I both wig. How the **** are you going to stop a 3rd and 5 when lined up 8yards deep??? Are you scared??? Are you not so smart??? Well I don't know the inside scoop but to me I've seen this happen time and again and time and again and time and again_______.

GOOD luck with that. Due to my uncanny Clarevoyancy and my willingness to share out come, CMT quit taking my calls. I was very polite and didn't even rub anything in with an I told yaz so...

I was against Butler's promotion based on the fact of him being to mentored by DL. I wanted and still do want new blood. Butler has shown a lot of the old tactics. If CMT over rides him than he has NOT got the balls to stand up to him. Especially in game action adjustments. If CMT lets coordinators coordinate, then Butler hasn't got it. If Tomlin over ruled and BUTLER couldn't get CMT to try something different durring this game, again a FAIL. NEW BLOOD, not First Blood but would take RAMBO on "D" anytime !!!!!!
