We have the players....we could add even more through draft since the offense is loaded....I've been saying it for years now. Switch to 4-3. This type of defense is dead.

Even the freakin Falcons has surpassed us on defense.....Dump this zone - scheme bullshit and go back to the Steel Curtain scheme. Bring it back baby...**** this zone defense.

zone needs to go man to man i could care less about the 3-4 would love to see a 4-3 we have the dl for it we would just need 1 lb and 1 better CB than russ.
de tuitt dt harhrave dt heyward de dupree olb shaziel mlb williams olb a fast rangey sideline to sideline player.

To switch the approach they need to get rid of Butler and bring in someone who can change the schemes and be successful at it.

Who would I look at? Denver and Seattle D coaches.

who is the secondary coach for the broncos.....I'd start there.

Seattl's D was built by Dan Quinn. After the Falcons hired him, their team definitely took a turn for the better, and Seattle's D took a bit of a nosedive. Pete Carroll got too much of the credit for Seattle's success. Quinn was a great hire for the Falcons...

Regarding yesterday, not sure if it was all to do with our D scheme, but where were our lb's? They really seemed invisible. I truly thought that Shazier and Bud would have monster games. I was so pissed off I deleted the game right away from the pvr. Now I wish I didn't, it's good to look at the plays a day later with a clear head.

Obviously we need a guy to get to the QB. I do think we have to switch it up and go get someone in FA. Last year I was advocating Bruce Irwin. He would have made a difference.

They need to take the Denver approach and go all in and spend some money in free agency on a player or two that will make a difference and gear up to go win another one while Ben still has some football left. Denver signed Ware, Ward, and they brought in Talib, and those guys ALL had huge impacts on the broncos super bowl win.

Quit all this talk about players. We have enough talent now. We just don't have the coaching to make them effective. I said it in another thread, switch the coaching staff and Belichick would have beaten the Tomlin-led Patriots like a rented mule.

True a pass rusher and a cover corner.

That pass rusher can be a DT or a OLBer if you stay with the same scheme, I wouldn't.

If you think about it bringing in two players isn't a lot

. The Steelers have 1 cover corner.......... that area needs the most work. See when Carolina let there cover corner go it was a significant difference.

Our secondary improved from last year, although the last game didn't show it. But Burns was a solid reason. And Davis.

They need someone to replace Gay and ****...

So if you are going to make it only one free agent?

dump Green and bring in a cover corner........

After that abysmal display on Defense, get rid of some coaches. The only reason we make the playoffs each year is that we are in the worst division in football. Put Tomlin in a competitive Division, and he would be toast. He looks puzzled on the sideline, and makes no second half adjustments. Our defense tries to arm tackle and has forgotten how to hit. DBs stink. Our play calling inside the 10 is horrible with no creativity and is very predictable. The offensive line is protecting Ben for the first time in years, which is an improvement. Keep Mularkey, and clean house starting with Tomlin. The Dolphins beat us in the regular season!!!

The young players were constantly out of position, biting on fakes or trying to do someone else's job.

Doesn't matter who the hell our DC is if Tomlin isn't going to allow them to run the defense. We haven't run this zone bullshit since like week 3 or 4, we've been coming after the QB every game during this long winning streak, then suddenly Butler is going to change the entire scheme before this game, even after saying last week you have to get pressure on Brady, hell no, this was all on Tomlin, this is his Tampa 2 piece of **** defense.

nothing will change until we move to a 4-3 and play teams like the patriots with man coverage. nothing.

You can run man coverage out of the 3-4 just fine. There's a reason more and more teams have gone to the 3-4, it gives you much greater flexibility than the 4-3.

The front-7 scheme had nothing to do with the coverages we played.

Look, it's part of Tomlin's DNA to play zone. He grew up in it with Dungy and Kiffin. He believes in it and for the last 8 weeks of the season it was getting better and better. A week ago we were praising the progress of the defense and the secondary.

It was just a bad game. Not only is it an inherently bad matchup against Brady, but we didn't execute well and made too many mistakes. That's kind of a double whammy and you see a 36-spot put up against us.

We knew the offense had to keep pace to try and force the issue and we started with a 3-and-out (and played right into Belichicks defense on 3rd and 1 - he forced that long pass attempt). We had the ball to start the 2nd half down 8 and we went 3-and-out again (on a very manageable 3rd-and-4).

You can't do stuff like that and win. Not against a great team on the road.

This is Championship weekend. These are the best, most efficient teams, left in the league. This is arguably the best, highest quality, football played all year. The Super Bowl with the 2-week break and media circus and slick balls is always a sloppier game.

This past weekend you HAVE to bring you A-game or you are getting left in the dust. We didn't do it.

The front 7 scheme???? There was no front 7, it was a front 3, our best pass rushers were in coverage the entire game, no point at all having James Harrison in the game if he's not rushing the passer, he's not good in coverage.

and played right into Belichicks defense on 3rd and 1 - he forced that long pass attempt.

You mean the one where he placed a perfectly thrown ball to a wide open Coates who had the ball hit off both of his hands that would have put us in FG range.

We have some talent now but whatever Butler and Tomlin put in their heads coming into this game totally ****** them up. They had actually been playing very well of late. In this game, they were back out of position on EVERY play and on EVERY play someone was wide the **** open. You can't tell me that is all on the players. Sure some is but Tomlin and Butler changed things this week that ****** up what they had going and they never made any adjustments to correct it in the first half or at half time. Terrible coaching no matter how you look at it.

Pay a good coach to teach this secondary how to cover and especially aggressive tackling technique.

I think more to the point is, why put the game in his hands so early? They were running well (2 runs 9 yards), establishing the LOS... I think, in that time frame, the risk/reward is too high. Now, in hindsight, Bell being injured would have altered the game plan (was there one anyway?), so who knows?

Aggressive tackling...novel concept, 2/3 of our defense breaks down 8 yards away from the ball carrier and waits for them to get to them. The other 1/3 never break down, try to shoulder bump, arm tackle, or chop block. Tackling is a lost art form across the NFL not just the Steelers

Rex Ryan seems to give Brady trouble quite often, do we even bother to look at what his defenses do, or is Tomlin to damn proud?
