I think it's time some of you embrace him. He has helped mold our secondary into a punishing group who look to make sure to don't want to catch that pass over the middle. Yeah maybe his celebration stuff gets old somedays when it's a big hit after a large gain but this team feeds off of him. The defense is just plain nasty. Mitchell doesn't get enough credit. He put in a pro bowl season and I think it's time people give him his due.

He played well this season, but like many fans, I fear a stupid penalty from him could really cost us. Dude things he's Mike Tyson out there, and goes for kill shots, sometimes missing because of it.

I hated Mitchell this season. HATED him. He wasn't making plays. He was late on pass breakup attempts. He was launching and wasn't tackling as players just bounced off of him.

I will say, that since Davis was named the full time starter, it has actually helped Mitchell's game. He doesn't play like he has to make up for everyone else's mistakes. He now can just concentrate on his job and trust that the other people will be doing theirs. I have been a fan of his in the second half of the season, and happy for his improvement.

I didn't like his game yesterday though. He nearly killed Cockrell, he screams and freaks out that he is the man, when he piles on a tackle that is already made. And he ran 30 yards back into the endzone to celebrate a tackle on a RB after they gained 7 yards, and it wasn't even 3rd down! I was happy for his pass breakup, forced fumble and tackle for a loss though.

I know he's polarizing, and he is our defensive cheerleader, as long as he is making plays though, I will cheer him on as well.

I am on board with Mitchell. He's a big hitter back there.

I wouldn't say Pro Bowl by any means. Improved, yes. And that was a direct result of Davis and Burns entering the starting lineup.

There was one play where the Dolphins gained 9 yards on a 1st down and Mitchell comes in and takes a shot as he's getting tackled. It was a good hit to prevent anymore yardage but he subsequently runs off screaming his head off like he just stopped them on 4th down. It was going to be 2nd and 1...didn't realize that was cause for celebration.

Or how about taking a completely unnecessary shot at Stills as he's going to the ground after a deep catch. The one where Stills was literally on the ground already causing Mitchell to whiff and take out Cockrell. Even if he connects with Stills, that's a flag 10 times out of 10.

It's one thing to be a hard hitter and passionate but this dude takes it to the complete extreme of being unnecessary many times.

Just posted this exact post at the same time lol It's like we're brothers or something...

Lol...im just glad we have guys on this team that care, that show fire and a burning desire to just win.....

EMOTION...I love it !!!

He's a huge reason we've seen this defense turn into a potentially solid one.

I missed the hit on Cockrell cause I was trying to fight thru the ******* standing in the bathroom cause it was too cold out.

Ross was nearly knocked out by friendly fire.. Mitchell hits a ton, but accuracy is just not this thing. I wonder the same about Dupree unless that first hit was intentional. Moore's a tough man to take that.

I've learned to tolerate Mitchell - he really does mean well. There are parts of his game that need refinement; but, overall, he's a leader on this defense and very much needed...

After the Dallas game, I remember Shazier saying something to the effect that the players were fine and nothing needed to be changed. I remember at the time I was thinking "Huh?" But then it was explained that he meant the players (particularly the younger guys as well as guys like Mitchell) just needed to trust their assignments and do their own jobs and everything would be fine.

Right after that, the rookies immediately started looking better and Mitchell seemed to look a bit better too.

Course we got some guys back shortly after that as well and that didn't hurt either.

My problem with Mitchell is he makes it hard for me to defend our team against complaints that were no better then the Bengals. Living here in Cincy I can't defend many of his hits. He absolutely has gone head hunting on plays and launched at a player not to make the tackle but to hurt. I have no respect for that and he has done it too many times, sometimes at the detriment of our own players. Just yesterday he took out the **** and could have really jepordaized our secondary. If he would clean up his act and not play like a Bengal I would like him better.

Celebrating is the new playa profile. This "D" has come around and Mitchell is a part of that turn around. Thank you Mike Mitchell for your unselfish work and making us a part of your charismatic celebrations. Seriously though, thanks Mike !!!!!

Salute the nation

Mitchell has stepped it up this season, and has brought a "boom" to the backfield. He still takes dumb chances, but I give him credit

What was wrong with Dupree's hit? See the QB, HIT the QB ... seemed pretty accurate to me. No, I think the back-handed slap at "Durpee" is just another one of those things you do when you can't let go of a preconceived notion that a player drafted by the Steelers isn't going to succeed. I don't think it's a coincidence that this defense started playing better when Bud got back ... much, much, much better than when Chick was the starter ... and because I can't say it enough .... MUCH BETTER THAN WITH CHICK ... MUCH BETTER

As for Mitchell, a lot of us didn't like Clark for the same type of plays (not the celebrating). After awhile, the hard hitting, take no **** attitude grows on ya.

I don't get the hate for Mitchell at all. He's learn to lower his strike zone and take WRs out at the ribs. Effective and not illegal. I think he's damn solid.

Was he going for Still's ribs when he all but knocked out Cockrell? Pretty hard to hit someone in the ribs when they're already on the ground yet there was Mitchell lining up the big hit.

The difference between Clark and Mitchell, is Clark hit his targets hard. Mitchell plays hard all the time and sometimes hits his target.

I have always thought he was a good player since we got him. I was actually taken aback when all the bashing started. Guess people are seeing something that I'm not. I do laugh when I hear people complain that he makes a lot of tackles 10 yards downfield. Uh yeah so did Troy Polamalu. Want to know why??? They play the SAFETY position.

Troy played much more often in the box than Mitchell. Mitchell is generally the deep safety, sometimes lining up 17 yards off the LOS.

Another way of looking at it is that because he's playing 17 yards off the LOS, he's got to make up a LOT of ground to be in on tackling during a run play or screen. I'm not going to say that all of his celebrations occur after making those type of tackles, but I'll be looking a little more closely now that you mention it.
