It's a poor argument AJ. Most fans enjoy their players for what they do on the field. I'm sure in the social medialess 70s, Hollywood's indiscretions weren't well known while he was a player. A guy that became a drug addict in the 80s after playing, only then to be clean and sober for 30 years, should be judged on this one arrest, right?

Very poor Cope but not unexpected. Anything to discredit Tomlin I guess.. I will always love Bradshaw for what he did for the Steelers but his comments were dumb. Now if he had come around which I'm sure he could and checked for himself or asked around then I would have some respect for his opinions. He did neither when as a former Steelers great he could of easily checked before he spoke
Wait, I thought that Tomlin only won BECAUSE he had a franchise QB. Make no mistake, Rivers is regarded as a franchise QB also. Has been since he was drafted. So, the coaches that he had should have reaped the rewards of having a franchise QB and this should be reflected in wins, losses and playoff appearances correct? Especially in what was a weaker AFC West during most of Ben and River's career. The fact that Rivers doesn't enjoy a better win loss record reflects something different at work ... possibly the Head Coach (Coaches in River's case) that they worked with?
I mean, I know that San Diego had to rebuild their defense, rebuild their OL and replace a HOF RB along with a couple of very good WRs during Rivers time as a Charger, but any coach who has a franchise QB should be able to do that on the fly and still keep from having a losing season right? Shoot, along those lines, what the hell is wrong in Indy? They have a franchise QB. Why aren't they in the playoffs?

That organization ****** up getting rid of Shottenheimer. Instead they were left with Norv Turner, who took that super talented team nowhere. #1 offense, #1 defense in the same season, and they miss the freakin playoffs?!?!? How the hell do you do that as a HC and franchise QB? Oh, you led the league by having the worst turnover margin in football.
And that's my point. Having a franchise QB and good to great players surrounding him isn't enough. You'd better have a good coach too. Folks act like Tomlin could just walk in, get in the car and it would be like one of those self-driving vehicles all the way to the playoffs every year. If that were the case, Norv Turner would have at least had the Chargers in the playoffs more (did they even go to the tourney under Norv?) and Pagano would have led Indy to a few AFCCGs or at least deep playoff runs. Both have franchise QBs. But, that isn't enough.
I'm not saying Tomlin is an all time great. I am saying he's better than he's given credit for. Funny thing is that I agree with a lot of the Tomlin haters; when Ben retires,we'll really see what kind of coach Tomlin is. What I'm seeing though is a coach who is preparing for that. This team could be well equipped at most every level except for QB when Ben retires. I'm not saying it's plug and play for the next Steelers QB, whomever it may be ... But, a down year might just get you in a situation like Indy had with Luck ... the infrastructure is set, and you happen to be able to draft the QB you need. That'd probably piss more than a few folks off ... lol
you don't have to wait until Ben is retired to see what kind of coach Tomlin is, You have a healthy Ben/Antonio/Bell. Going into the playoffs. Miami is walking wounded, Chiefs don't have the same talent as this team does, And Pats are down Gronk.
Tomlin is a good coach. But if he wants to be great?
No better time than the present.

His point is that we criticize greater coaches than him (Coach K, Coughlin as examples) but Tomlin seems untouchable. Cites losing record against losing teams, 1 playoff win in 5 years with Ben, etc. Basically makes a lot of the points posters here do. Pretty interesting 10 min if you care:

I support Tomlin and hope he does well, but the losses to below .500 teams and the lack of playoff wins of late will draw in the critics. I hope Tomlin uses the criticism as motivation to improve

It's not a poor argument, and you're mistaken -- Henderson was an addict WHILE he was playing. In fact, Bill Walsh cut him after 3 games in 1980 after finding crack cocaine in his locker.
And I never called Tomlin a "piece of ****," or insinuated anything. He's mentioned Henderson before, and it strikes me as an odd choice from the 70s Cowboys.
