Game Notes

We are not signing any free agent as coveted as Xavier Rhodes. That's just wishful thinking along the lines of thinking we could sign Revis 4-5 years ago. Rhodes will either be frachised or he will sign a monster deal.

besides if they are going to bring in a significant free agent, it better be a pass rushing OLBer.

And most of those times, it took a week or two before the replacement player to be comfortable calling out protections. And sure, we might see a huge difference as fans, but I'm sure it changes A LOT in game planning and preparations when you don't have a guy like Pouncey. He's the most athletic lineman we have, and we can pull with him in any direction, and that is where you see the differences between him and his replacements.

I don't think that he's weak, I just think he tends to go high too often. He is a lot better than what we have been lining up out there the past few years, and while he may not be a top notch shut down corner, if Burns develops into that, he makes an EXCELLENT #2 corner.

Someone doesn't remember antwon Blake's tackling "ability". Cockrell is solid in comparison

We made an offer to Revis. He didn't take it because he likes money.

Don't think fans were displeased at the final outcome. But he is prone to INTs too many for my liking. What I expect from a backup is a little more ball control and little less turnovers.

Um, in 2016, Jones has 2 INTs in 86 attempts (2.3%) and no fumbles. Ben has 13 INTs in 509 attempts (2.7%) and six fumbles.

Sounds like a little more ball control and a little less turnovers, doesn't it?

If you buy into LJ's INT percentage wouldn't have sky rocketed with 509 attempts.

Until the clown game LJ was on the head down ratio of TD to INTions.

I just think LJ won't be hard to replace.

My opinion might be tested soon........

Not trying to be a downer, but am I the only one that thinks Cockrell is just too damn weak to be a starting corner for us? He's good for two amazing breakups a game (which is good), but he gets bowled over or trucked downfield WAY TOO much. I'd love to see us maybe make a move for Xavier Rhodes in the offseason.
I'll just say this...

We used to have a weakling at DB who turned out just fine with time and experience.

Meet William Gay.

I, for one, think we have a high character, smart player in Cockrell. The strength will come. He's already smart - I'd stick with him because the next guy could be Coclough (sp?)...

Ben has 6 INTs in his last 4 games. It's not a good trending statistic for him, especially since 3 of those games were at home.

Jones likely won't ever have 509 attempts. That's the whole point -- he's a backup quarterback.

I'm buying into him being adequate in that role, not as susceptible to turnovers as you purported, and generally not deserving of the mountain of criticism he continues to receive around here. We'll see. His value to the Steelers is higher simply due to the fact that he has been in their system for so long, and he has shown the ability to win some games when called upon.

Everyone wants a better back up. The fact is, if the back up somewhere else is a better, he is going to cost and then people will ***** about how much we are paying a back up. Then you have to worry about, if he actually is a lot better, someone else can and, probably will, pay him more to start.

We could use better. It aint as easy as people seem to think to just grab one, but that and the above goes for most back ups.
