Bradshaw on MT

In both Super Bowls, Tomlin put his players in a prime position to win. That is what great coaches do.

Tomlin’s still-invisible genius occurred at the beginning of that 2009 season when Roethlisberger was suspended four games for sexual assault allegations against him.

Byron Leftwich, who had prepared to start in place of Ben all preseason, went down with a knee injury during the preseason finale. Instead, a rookie named Dennis Dixon got the last-minute start.

Then in the Steelers' second game, Dixon also injured his knee (which sadly, ended his career). Tomlin was then forced to move to veteran back-up Charlie Batch — his 4th option — to start the final two games.

How did the Steelers do?

They went 3-1, and the only loss ended with a last-second field goal.

In all four games, Mike Tomlin put his players in a position to win.

SHUT THE **** UP!!!

Tomlin saying anything about the refs does ABSOLUTELY NOTHING towards the refs... you see coaches around the league make comments, and the refs still suck. And CLEARLY Tomlin was so worried about Bradshaw's comments and not focused on football that they lost to the Ravens, missed out on winning the division, and missed the playoffs...oh wait, they didn't? They won? Well ****...

You are wrong way more than you are right, and NEVER ONCE will you admit to being wrong. I miss the days when you were absent, your egotistical bullshit has run it's course and isn't even amusing anymore. You're the worst kind of troll, because you don't realize that's all you are.

That was no conventional weapon. That was a full tactical nuclear deployment.

Blessing in disguise from Bradshaw's comments we are now learning what Tomlin does coaching wise and it's not sitting in his office trying on shades

I also think it never hurts hearing others peoples viewpoints.

If it motivates him or hell even a few players.

At this time of year, nothing wrong with a little fuel on the fire.

Not that we haven't heard enough from TB.

basing your opinion of a coach by what you hear in news conferences and shots of him on the sideline during the game is ******* ignorant...

it is almost as dumb as commenting on games based on recaps or stories without having actually watched the game

Going back the past 5 seasons. Ok 2012 and 2013 had the same result, an 8-8 season. But during those seasons the team re-tooled. Tomlin's blue print is starting to take it's outcome. Solid contributors on both sides of the ball. His decision making when it comes to time management has always been spotty. Losing to .500 teams is another. But Tomlin's teams pull a miracle towards the end of the season. Given the turn around of this team since mid November. I think Tomlin deserves a bit of respect. As a fan I'll still be critical when things go bad, and give him credit when things go good. He's the Steelers coach. Like it or not. So I support him a full 100%

I'm not a CMT fan but his reply to TB at his Tuesday press conference was perfect. He couldn't have given a better response. The back handed dig at the end was brilliant. LOL

Now if he could only be a brilliant coach.

I was a Mikey supporter from day 1. I could no longer support him by the middle of this season, and I said as much here.

Now Steel Vanguard can call me a racist, but anyone who knows me from the "basement" as he calls it knows i'm on the left politically.......so

I do not think Mikey is that great of a coach, "good" as Brad stated is all he is...people here are blinded by the winning streak against mediocre to bad teams. The last two weeks especially have blinded fans to the fact that we struggled against two very weak teams that we should have dominated.

Instead they had to mount two epic comebacks against teams that were neither the 84 Niners or the 2001 Pats.

No one does less with more than Tomlin. To compare him with Cowher ,when Cowher never had a franchise QB is ludicrous.

being on the left politically doesn't mean you can not be racist....you're typically more closed minded than others not burdened with a mental disorder

Sure ,the " I know you are but what am I" defense often mustered by the "intellectuals" on the Neo Nazi right is just the anodyne.

And I know your hinting at the "liberalism is a mental disorder" phrase created by Michael Savage....err....Michael Wiener. Self loathing bi-sexual Jew who pretends to be a straight white male on that hi tech super highway of CONservative information......AM RADIO.

Yeah that guy. Talk about disorders......your sage.....lol

I digress as this is football.

Something tells me that you've not watched a game since Big Ben was drafted...

Name the coach and FO who did so???

Wanna bet that it wasn't Coach Tomlin???

My name is Mike. But not CMT lol. I've gotten that reference a lot when I first joined. From my understanding CMT was great poster who knew his stuff. Not gonna take away his mojo per se lol. I have my opinions and thoughts with regarding the Steelers. Just like the rest of you guys, I want to see the team win. Regardless who is coaching/playing. Etc

BTW, how long WAS the Dri Archer thread anyway? I know we're not close ... but, one can always hope

I meant for most of his career. Ben was drafted in 04, team won SB in 05.

Tomlin went on to win SB in 08 with COWHERS TEAM.

Ive been a fan since 75/76

Thanks.

We're over 100 pages short...

Well, we've got plenty of time. Let's get to it. Can't live in our fears. And if any of you ******* blink before the job is done, I'll cut your eyelids off :bolt:

Yawn...more speculative BS...

And I've been a fan just as long as you...

At the time that Cowher retired, it was no longer his team. At the time that Tomlin was hired, it became his team. To do with as he saw fit. To lose or win. He guided them to a Super Bowl win and another appearance. He was the coach, not Cowher. He set the tone, not Cowher. He presided over OTAs, training camp, game day decisions, etc. Not Cowher. It was his team. Not Cowher's.
Those players got old on his watch ... Not Cowher's.
It was his responsibility to rebuild (with Colbert) ... Not Cowher's.
We're here in the playoffs again with a team comprised mostly of players drafted during his tenure ... Not Cowher's.

I've learned to let Elfie just talk himself to sleep...if only Coach would follow suit...

I'm shooting for the record ... that point where all the Mods are pulling their hair out because we're saying the same old **** over and over and over ... within the thread. And they finally say they've had enough and lock the thread. (After cursing us all for fools if I remember correctly about the Archer thread).

I rarely post but this Tomlin issue is really a dumb argument. Since statistics are being thrown around, let's look at these.

449 coaches have been hired in the NFL. Only 59 have managed to last 10 years (13%). Only 8 have managed to win 100 games in 10 years (1.7%). As the sixth fastest to do so Tomlin is now at (1.3%). And with only 5 who have managed to not have a losing season in their first 10 years he is now at (1.1%) of ALL the coaches who have ever coached the in the NFL. Unfortunately for some in our fan base being better than 98.9% of all the coaches who have coached in the NFL is just not good enough.

If you want to compare his record only to those who have made it 10 years then the numbers are 8 out of 59 (top 14%), 6 out of 59 (top 10%), 5 out of 59 (top 8%).

At worst whether you chose all the coaches or the top ten then he is better than 87% (all coaches) for lasting 10 years or 86% of all coaches for having won 100 games+ in 10 years. At best he is better than 98.7% of all coaches who have ever coached for his number of wins in 10 years or a mere better than a mere 90% of all who have actually made it to the 10 win level. For non-losing seasons he is either better than 98.9% of all coaches or just 92% of those who've coached 10 years.

I don't care if you started with someone else's players, if you have great assistants or if you were hired because of a "rule." Coaches are hired to win and sticking with the coach who is at worst better than 90 - 92% of 10 year coaches or at best better than the 98.7 - 98.9% of all coaches seems like a smart move by ownership.

I guess your point is he's great.

Are these great coaches?
