Haven't seen it anywhere yet, but just heard it on the radio, they released Charles James to claim Shabazz

local writer tweeted about it....

So the Texans waived CB Charles James and replaced him with Al-Hajj Shabazz, claimed on waivers from the Steelers.

well.... time to see who else is out there when Boz comes back.

PITTSBURGH -- Justin Gilbert is ahead of Al-Hajj Shabazz in the Pittsburgh Steelers' cornerback pecking order again.

The 2014 first-round pick of the Cleveland Browns, traded to the Steelers for a 2018 sixth-round pick this preseason, was behind the 2015 undrafted rookie free agent at least through Week 10. When Ross Cockrell briefly left the field with a first half injury against the Dallas Cowboys Shabazz stood by defensive coordinator Keith Butler on the sideline.

Afterward, Shabazz confirmed he was the next cornerback in after William Gay, who is primarily a slot corner now.

But on Wednesday morning, Steelers coaches told Gilbert to expect more reps in practice this week so they could be more comfortable with him replacing Cockrell or Artie Burns.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who usually avoids mere mention of the word comfort, is looking forward to getting some at home from the Heinz Field crowd when his team faces the New York Giants on Sunday.

Gilbert said that in Week 4 versus the Kansas City Chiefs the Steelers designed a defensive package where he would come in and simply defend tight end Travis Kelce man-to-man.

He wasn't part of the rest of the defense.

Gilbert was set for a similar role defending New York Jets wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, he said, before suffering a knee injury in practice ahead of the game. Though the Jets game was the only one he missed due to injury - he was inactive in Week 9 at Baltimore - Gilbert said the injury lingered on, causing him to fall down the effective depth chart.

In Week 13, though, he's back behind Cockrell and Burns. And he's part of the broader defensive setup.

Said Gilbert: "It's just whatever you see the corners doing out there now is the same thing I'm doing.

Maybe instead of ******* around with practice squad players they'll play Justin Gilbert and see what the former top 10 pick can do.

why now? as long as that secondary keeps making improvements. I am not desiring a change just for a look-see this late in the season.........

Shabazz has some talent. I'm glad he landed on a roster and is getting a good payday. It's quite a switch when another team is picking up OUR CB castoffs!

I thought he was a safe choice to move freely from our active roster to ps at this stage of the season, guess I was wrong on that one. Are the Texans suffering from injuries at the position or looking for a special teamer? Seems we lose at least one this way every year, but can't say I'll lose any sleep over his departure. Oh yeah, and bring up Ayers when Boz gets healthy.

Well, which made me wonder: There are other teams with worst depth at CB than we have?

they cut a CB who basically sucked, to add Shabazz....the guy they cut was okay on special teams, but couldn't cover for ****.....

Gotta really suck to get cut for a 54th man from another team that won't even know your playbook for weeks. The Ravens should pick up the guy the Texans cut and let him shadow AB in week 16 game.

Inspires Ayers

Coolie, you're right. Since Shabazz is gone and not a call up option anymore, the logical choice now is Ayres. So start rooting for Boz to get healthy!

Karlos Williams... Oh wait..

Just out of curiosity, is he even on the team??? If so, when can they cut him????

Ayers' turn is coming very soon and I sure hope the kid gets some snaps and of course capitalizes.

Could also sign someone like Dee Milliner for cheap

From what I researched, he is not cut, he is suspended. He is serving 6 games this season, and will serve up to 4 games in 2017. Playoff games will count against his suspension. There is a chance his suspension is served completely if the Steelers make the Superbowl. Otherwise you are looking between 1-4 weeks of suspension starting next season. He will be able to take part in workouts and preseason.

His next suspension is a year. I added him to the spreadsheet.
