PITTSBURGH -- The Pittsburgh Steelers have talked to Antonio Brown about his celebration penalties in the end zone, quarterback Ben Roethlisberger told 93.7 The Fan on Tuesday.

Brown got his third touchdown-celebration penalty of the season for his choreographed dance with running back Le'Veon Bell during Thursday's 28-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts.

"He knows, we all know, Coach [Mike] Tomlin brought it up yesterday, that is a huge penalty and we can't do that," Roethlisberger said on his weekly radio show. "We put our kick coverage team in a bad situation and we can't have that, and AB knows that."

Brown got hit with penalties in Week 1 against the Washington Redskins and Week 4 against the Kansas City Chiefs for what the NFL deems a sexually suggestive dance: a twerk with at least two pumps.

Brown has cut back on the pumps, but he still enjoys a good celebration. Brown is tied for the league lead with 10 touchdown receptions entering Sunday's game with the New York Giants.

When asked about addressing the issue this week, Tomlin said he didn't because the coaching staff has "discussed it wholly" with players in the past.

"We had a setback in that area, but I don't think it requires additional discussion," Tomlin said.

So has AB gotten penalties on 30% or 40% of his TDs?

All I know is he costs the "TEAM" when he does this attention grabbing ****. It doesn't matter how good a player you are, you can't cost the team. True he works hard is a great route runner all the things a team player need to do, except one. That is be a COMPLETE TEAM player. he will never acquire Jerry Rice status if he continues to be the attention grabber he is showing us. I definitely want him on our team but wished he'd be real.

as long as he can still brush his hair..........

ALSO, why the heck isn't TOMLIN following up on this. We talked to him once and figured it has allready been said, so he (AB) knows. WTF coach?????

Since the league moved the kickoffs up it is essentially a meaningless penalty. I hope AB gets A LOT of TD celebration penalties because it means he is scoring A LOT of TD's. It doesn't hurt a thing. **** it. Play on playa.

May have to disagree Mr. Burgundy. While most kickoffs are boring, when a team has to kickoff from the 20, it can get interesting.
I'd much rather the opponent start at their own 25 than say, mid-field. It kind of takes the shine off scoring that TD, and our D needs all the help it can get.

Just hand the ball to the ref, AB

I think the Colts game was the first game the opposing team took advantage of the longer kickoff and scored a TD off that drive.

Sorry Ron but I'd venture to say it does hurt to a degree. I haven't done the research but I would think the starting point after a penalized kick off is better than the starting point of a NON-penalized kick off. Antonio can have his celebration but JUST stay with in the rule.

I heard a player on NFL Sirius make a very interesting point. If they want to cut down on the celebrations, just make it a fine to the players. A big fine. No penalty, as all it does is slows the game down anyway. Just go along with it get ready for the XP and then let a fine come to the locker later in the week. $20k fine will work better than a team penalty.

What I don't understand is, what's the big deal if one guy is dancing around vs two? Just because it's "choreographed" with another player it's automatically a penalty is pretty dumb, but then again we're talking about Goodell. One player doing a choreographed dance is ok, but it's the end of the world if he does a planned secret handshake with another player. Give me a break.

I like what Ike Kelly said above about fining them instead of giving out a penalty. Guys would be more mindful of the rules (albeit stupid rules) and the team won't get penalized for one player's selfishness.

With that said, AB needs to keep his dancing within the rules and good for Ben to finally call him out on it. That's the kind of thing a head coach should've done after the first penalty.

Some of these players will gladly pay that every week in order to dance though IMO. If they really wanted to eliminate it, have the 15 yards be tacked on to the XP attempt, no matter if it's 2pt try or FG try.

I hate to bring up the Patriots but if you watch when Blount scores a TD and he and his team mates dance, they wait until they are on the sideline. The camera still always shows them dancing so they don't get flagged and they still get their time to dance. Seems like a simple solution to me, I guess some of these guys just can't control the emotion after getting in the EZ though.

I agree with you, but didn't Will Gay dance on the sideline with another player and still get penalized? We all know the same rules don't apply to the Pats though.

I'm perfectly fine with Brown celebrating, so long as it's late in the 4th quarter and we are up 16 or more points.

AB needs to be smart about this.

I've noticed that most of the time Boz still kicks a touchback or at least puts the ball inside the 20.

Yeah, you're probably right... there's pretty much no way around it for us.

That may well be true but I'm talking about the actual first down of the receiving offense. I bet it is better start position for penalized kick off. Averages of coarse as the coverage team has to cover the 15yards more distance to tackle the guy. Like I said Antonio can celebrate all he wants as long as it's within the rules and NO penalty.

THIS! I like this. Put the ball on the 30 and make it a 47 yard XP attempt. Would Tomlin tell AB to cut the bullshit after one of those????
