How things can change in 6 weeks..

The 5 teams that have beaten the Steelers this year are a combined 37-17 overall, .685.

Tough schedule for the Steelers so far. Miami has won 6 straight now and currently hold the last wild card spot.

Yea, funny how that turned out. And to think we were 4-1 at one point. But, luckily for a weak north this season, we are right in the thick of things. This week is big: If we win, we are right on track, if not, we have to win a tough one in Buffalo. We MUST win one of the next two, and then win out. At least we are getting semi-healthy.

No team that has beaten us has a losing record (PHI is 5-5).

Sadly, the teams we have beaten have a combined record of 25-39. Redskins and Chiefs (pattern of racism?) are the only two with winning records..

I see how a few of you are spinning it. I am just not sure that anything short of a win out gets the Steelers in.

I think you have to win the AFC North to get in, and the team who is second sits. Basing it on the records I see.

Basically you have to win one more than the rats.

That loss to the Cowboys ... every day, you know it's there, and every day, its existence pisses you off.

A good team barely won, that doesn't bother me, it happens.

Now years of losing to scrubs is a entirely different matter.

Not sure how it is relevant to their playoff chances. NFC and AFC two different puppies in the equation of scenarios.

The loss to the rats hurt more. Take care of the afc north teams and get in. This week is a must win. I like the extra time off from the thanksgiving game. Giving the rookies more reps while winning games is sure to boost their confidence. I'm liking Hargraves, and the rah rah he is providing through play. So should look for positives. If the team loses to the G-strings this week. I think the team needs to depend on teams winning/losing to get in. At that point, I consider our guys' season done

Cowboys game doesn't bother me nearly as much as the Rats game. We played right into their hands all game long, should have won by 2+ TDs if we had any type of creative pulse calling in the plays

Not yet..... but close.

We shall see what transpires.

I am close to saying it is a must win, because as they stand they aren't even in the drivers seat.

Agreed. They are not in the drivers seat. This win can improve their chance though

True

each win brings that much closer.

But I hope we see the urgency we saw last week.

On offense, I want to see the TE's used more. Ben can have a field day against NYG no doubt. Defense, I like what I saw out of the rookies. Hargraves has impressed me, and even though it's only the Browns and Colts; Hargraves play has benefited Tuitt as well. I am optimistic about it. But they need to make a statement right away

Been wanting that for years and years and years and years.

The loss to the rats hurt more.

But the Steelers were losing 21-0 to the rats on the rats home turf.

Meanwhile, the Steelers were leading the @#$%ing Cowgirls at home with 42 seconds to play, girls on their own 25 yard line.

Big difference.

Technically, while Pittsburgh is (at the moment) a half game behind the Rats, they still have another game with them. And they have to come to Pittsburgh!

So technically, as long as Pittsburgh can get up for a couple very important games upcoming, they have a pretty good shot at controlling their destiny. Because ultimately, if Pittsburgh wins the 2nd game, I think we may have the edge. Not sure about the AFC standings though.

At the end of November and into December, good football teams win regardless of who they are playing. If the Steelers don't do that, then any sort of playoff aspirations don't make sense.
With 5 games left, and three against winning teams, and the other two against the bungles and stains, it seems like beating the Rats is the top priority, and then winning at least one of two against the Gints and Jills is necessary.
If the Steelers can't win 2 of 3 from the Rats, Gints and Jills, I don't like the chances of beating anyone from the AFC West in the WC game.
Going 4-1 in the last 5 games doesn't make a 10-6 team into a SB team, but it could provide the right momentum at the right point in the season, almost like 2005.

If, if we continue to get healthy, continue to improve from coaches/play calling, players playing and a little luck, there is no team in the AFC that looks unbeatable.

We need to pull it together and continue to improve. The odds are certainly against us given our play so far, but it's about what we do from this day forward. Let's GO!!!!!!

How are they not in the drivers seat? We are tied (record wise) with the Ravens, they hold a half game lead due to the head to head. However, we have a game left against them. If we win out, and Baltimore wins all but the game against us, we win the division because we would be 11-5 and they would be 10-6. I'd call that in the drivers seat myself.

the rats are in the drivers seat unless this changes, which would entail them (the rats) losing. Right now they are on the outside looking in ( the Steelers). Perhaps not by much, but if the season ended today they would be home on the sofa.

Now yes that can change but doesn't change what is now.

But the season doesn't end today. Read my post again. They play us on Christmas, if we beat the Giants, Bills, and Bengals, and they beat the Dolphins, Patriots, and Eagles, then we both go into the game at 9-5. If we beat them, the tie breaker GOES AWAY, and we hold the better record at 10-5 to their 9-6. We would each have one game left, ours against the Browns, theirs against the Bengals, if we both win, we still win the division. That is called being in the drivers seat. Meaning we don't need help if we win out.

I'd say that the Ravens are indeed in the "driver's seat," because they hold the current tiebreaker advantage. If they happen to beat the Steelers again, that advantage is magnified. However, both teams still can "control their own destiny" and capture the division title by winning all of their remaining games.

Whomever wins out wins the devision but we are a 1/2 game behind RIGHT NOW, so the gayvens are currently in the drivers seat. When we win and they lose this weekend, then we will be in the driver's seat.

Salute the nation
