I think, at least this season, it's hard to argue the job Franklin has done. He's taken a room full of kids who weren't feeling great about themselves at 2-2 after getting run by Michigan and turned them into one of the hottest teams in college football knocking on the playoff doorstep.
Since that game, they've been remarkably consistent in playing to their strengths, playing with confidence, play for and with each other, believing they will win every time out, and having laser-like focus on the next opponent on the schedule. This helps the boys prepare individually for each game. And they play with more grit and heart than any PSU team I can remember in many years
The job Franklin is doing right now is the anti-Tomlin. The Steelers are inconsistent, undisciplined, take their talent for granted, lack focus on individual games, play as a group of individuals rather than as a team, aggressive when they should be conservative, conservative when they should be aggressive..
If you ever wanted to see the difference between a well coached team and a badly coached team, check out Penn State since the Michigan game, and the Steelers in the same time period. You'll be astonished
