I'm no fan of CMT but I agreed with his decision to go for the TD at the end of the 1st half. In general, I despise FG's unless they are walk offs but in this case they were too close not to try. Plus they needed to get one after 2 other failed attempts. Good call CMT. Enjoy your one complement. LOL

The weather pretty much moving forward might be a good reason to go for it within a certain range.

I liked the decision today. We needed this to be a statement game. Yeah, MT would probably have gotten crucified if it didn't work, but I liked the aggressiveness - especially after settling for FG's the first two series.

Not sure moving forward there is enough wiggle room for one game to be a season turn around. No margin for error and to boot they go on the road where they haven't played well. Looking at it closely, I think you can not lose more than 1 more game moving forward. Close to a must win every week. One loss and I think we get that title.

100% against. It was a 6 point game, and were it not for the penalties it would've stayed that way. Leaving you one freak play from being behind. Instead you kick and go up 2 scores.

Hated the call for 2 as well.

For the record, I havent been anti Tomlin, This however has me starting to lean.

Hated it, if not for penalties the Steelers would have cone away with zero points and the game is still a one score game. The two point conversion was a bad decision as well, didn't he learn anything about chasing points after you fail? The Browns are just inept, the other 30 teams in the NFL are not inept, these kinds of decisions lose games, see Dallas last week.

I didn't mind them going for it, I just didn't like it when they kept trying pass plays. Finally scored on a run.

Loved the call. Cleveland had zero signs of life and the Steelers and a touchdown in that situation is big. Even if they don't score, you get the ball to start the second half (though, they did punt in that situation). I thought they should have used Bell in that situation rather than try to force it through the air, but it worked out in the end. Also loved the two-point call. It was tough kicking conditions and again, the Browns weren't stopping the Steelers. Both good, aggressive calls playing for the win by Tomlin.

I did not like the call. What was it, 6-0 at the time? a field goal puts you up 9-0 over a team that has shown very little offense except for a couple long passes to pryor. And it took a penalty or we would have come away with nothing. I really really wanted the steelers to jump on the browns early but I thought it was kind of a dumb unnecessary risk. Also, Ben should have known he had to get rid of the ball quick on the second throw and not hold it because there was only 5 seconds. He held it and it almost cost us.

But they were playing the Browns this week, not the Cowboys and they won the game by 15 points.

WRONG time to call for it. Up by 6 and on the road. Those of you saying your glad would definately be saying otherwise had it not. Made / converted. You take the points when in the lead and leave the desperate news to those not in the lead. HOW often are you going to get three tries for a touchdown with time expired????? NEVER !!!!!! Obviously I'm glad it worked out but for other more talented foe's we may not be so lucky.

Which is why you take the field goal against the better opponent. See, the Browns weren't a better opponent.

I get that but you may fail to realize is that our oh so smart coach has a hard time distinguishing the two. He will now think as to how successful he is at this and presume this is the ordinary way to go. Just my two cents worth

I disagree with that assessment. I've seen him take the safe route enough times that left us all screaming to think that he's all of a sudden going to gamble on every opportunity.

Please respond honestly.

Had the Browns not been penalized and the half ended with the Steelers coming away with zero points, would you still say you liked the call?

If not, you didn't really like the call, you just liked the result.

Yep. I would have been disappointed that the Browns got away with a penalty, but the risk was worth it in that situation against that team.

I have to agree here. After I thought about it more and more. But not sure it would be a wise call for any team outside of the one Ben owns.... the NFLs factory of sadness.

That's where I disagree. The risk was giving the Browns a moral victory and keeping them within a score. If that had happened and the Browns were able to somehow go on to win, I don't think people are talking about if Tomlin could possibly be fired, rather if he could possibly keep his job.

kicking the field goal there is a moral victory for the browns....

if you can not score from there, you deserve to lose....and the that is an example of when you are supposed to go for two....

Holding them to a field goal is a moral victory as well. I'd also have a different opinion if the Steelers weren't flat out dominating AND were getting the ball after the half. The circumstances were screaming to go for the touchdown. You could just as easily say that if the Browns came back to win after holding the Steelers to a field goal that Tomlin should have been more aggressive in that situation.

I guess, but they'd still be down two scores and shutout for the half. The other thing that I'm not sure people are considering is that this was the same as going for it on 4th and goal. There was no consolation prize of pinning the Browns back.

I would have kicked and gone up by 2 scores on the road, knowing we started with possession after halftime. I'm glad they went for it and converted.

Though going for 2 now is a must. Should always go for 2. Did you see yesterday, there were like 10 misses on XPs around the league. The XP is not a gimmie, and the score percentage for value of points ALWAYS favors going for it, especially when the weather turns.

Thanks Cope for bringing this to the forefront. Kickers are now starting to feel the pressure with the new rule. Along with the colder weather now contributing to the scenarios, it just isn't automatic anymore. Even Vinitari missed one. Nugent hit two, TWO!!! off the uprights. Kickers are really thinking about the "easy" kicks now. 2 pt conversions are going to be popular in outside stadiums in cold weather.
