Sammie Coates

Oh, and if Wheaton is being reevaluated, he will probably require surgery.

Agree. He's done for the year. Big question will be how this impacts his price as a free agent next year. Might be able to retain him cheap

I think it doesn't matter what Wheaton costs next year. We still have Coates, Eli, Bryant, Hamilton, and Ayers on Rookie or RFA status next season. Anything above vet minimum is a financial burden compared to this crew. Plus the Steelers have to pay AB.

According to an ESPN alert from Jeremy Fowler, Coates is dealing with two fractured fingers and ligament damage so I'm willing to give the guy a break.

He has a broken bone in his hand. Breaks don't magically heal in 2 weeks. He won't be healed until December.

Had a bunch of stitches in his finger too.

Then why is he returning kicks, and playing special teams

Good QUESTION but you do realize who is coaching and the Kick Off is a non-factor play anymore,... Right?

The stitches are a bit of a non factor. Those healed in a week. Hockey players don't miss a period with stitches.

Dissolving thread and super glue the skin......... Works every time !!!!! USE to be the "football" players were the tough ones.............NOW it's the Hockey players..............

Haha I do but if they want it to heal, he wouldn't be doing anything.

Since Week 5, we’ve seen Pittsburgh Steelers second-year wide receiver Sammie Coates catch just one pass for 4 yards. Additionally, in Sunday’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys, Coates played a season-low two offensive snaps. During his Tuesday press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin finally set the record straight as to why Coates played so few snaps this past Sunday in addition to why his receiving production has dropped to almost zero.

“Sammie’s most recent issue is the broken fingers on his hand,” said Tomlin. “That limits him in some of the things he’s able to do at wide receiver. It doesn’t limit him in terms of some of the things that he’s able to do in special teams and he’s done a good job of covering kicks and punts for us, and he’s doing a great job of continuing to work. But it has stymied some of his offensive growth and development. And so, when you talk about two snaps, you’re probably talking about offensive contributions. I don’t think that his special teams contributions were limited in any way due to those circumstances.”

Notice that Tomlin said broken fingers. It has long been believed, at least by me, that Coates only suffered one broken finger on his left hand. Regardless of how many fingers he broke, the hand injury is playing a role in his loss of playing time on offense and his lack of receiving production.

If he's that ****** up and the best option it tells you how little talent is on the roster after the five or six guys making all the money.

News I saw said he broke a second finger in the week or 2 after the initial finger break

Coates is full of himself, that cocky attitude on kick offs, not there when you need him, he wants to ride the Wallace, Burress shirt tail out of town chasing money.

He hasn't done anything yet. Who's paying him? I bet that's the last of his worries.

Coates had iffy hands before the injury, a player like that you sit until the injury heals.

Apex?????

What attitude? Haven't seen Sammie say or do anything but be a team player. He just has a hand injury that exacerbates his confidence issues in catching the ball.

I don't think ben threw 1 time to Coates today. I don't get what is going on with him. if he is hurt so bad what not inactivate him for a game or two?

Has a role on special teams.

He made three.

I think when DHB comes back you deactivate him, until he can play WR.

but I can see where it would be difficult with Wheaton done, and DHB out...

DHB is likely out for many more weeks. Still was in a walking boot today. I think theyre just holding out hope.

Not sure what the hell her really did to his fingers but he was on special teams and the fingers were wrapped pretty good. it would make it tough to catch. 5 plus weeks after the injury, you would think he'd be healed by now. I think there is something more going on, as usual, that we are not being told about.
