We need more *** on defense

You're not going to get much pressure rushing 2 DL and 1 or 2 LB's. We need a NT that can play 3 downs. The 3 DL occupy the line and a LB or 2 can make havoc getting to the QB.

Burns has been close and will only get better. He's a rookie. Davis has shown good signs and some rookie mistakes - especially the dumb facemask that gave Dallas at least a FG on that last drive.

And, on 2 plays, someone didn't stay in their gap and Zeke ran right through the hole for a long TD, both with less than 10 minutes on the clock.

When the O scores 30, you should win. It's still a team loss but the D shoulders most of the blame for yesterday.

In our front 7 I think we have 3 very good players 1 good player, 2 average players, and 1 below average player. Shazier, Heyward, and Tuitt are very good but differing degrees. Harrison is good but not special. Timmons and Hargrave/McCullers are average. And Jarvis or moats or whomever is below average. That is where we need to beef up the defense and make the rest of the defense look better. Get someone who can hold the point or push the interior and an OLB who can get 10+ sacks. We can fill in an average ILB for Timmons and an average OLB to keep teams honest but we need two more studs to get this defense rolling and I am not sure Hargrave is that guy but he has potential. I don't know if Dupree is that guy but he has potential. I do think we need a DT in this draft that has sand in their pants and a OLB who can get after the QB regardless just to push who is on the roster and give us more options.

Burns has shown potential. As I think Davis has too, he just needs to cut out the bonehead plays he throws in with the good ones he makes. I also think Cockrell has shown glimpses.

Mitchell has to be the most over paid player on the Defense. He'll make a tackle on a rb after they've picked up 8 yards and then act like he just made a tremendous play. Guy takes terrible angles. Both he and Golden are not the answer as our safeties. Hopefully Davis can develop and become a solid strong safety.

Like others have said we really need a NT. Hargrave is a better fit at DE, he'd be more effective spelling Tuitt and Heyward. Give those guys less snaps and they'd be more effective as well I feel.

I don't trust us drafting another OLB. I'd be tempted to get rid of some players, free up some cash and make a run at Chandler Jones

I think it is the system the Steelers use. 2 down lineman most of the time without really good edge rushing LBs is not working. Big play runs are exposing this defense. I think they need to stick with 3 or 4 down lineman. Tuitt and Heyward are fine. I am not sold on Hargrave - he seems to get pushed around a lot and is not the force a lot of people thought he might be. Seems to me, they control the line more when Big Dan is in, like yesterday when he was occupying 2 lineman and still in on plays. I think we need a big fatso, crazy strong, shorter nose tackle, like Big Snack to control the middle. Big Dan will be a great backup like Chris Hoke. Or go to a 4-3 and let the down lineman rush the passer - it is a different league than the 70's, but IMHO fundamentals do not change. Unfortunately, to get to any of these changes, it'll mean a coaching change is needed.

The problem is Tomlin doesn't want a NT, he loves this 2DL crap, and yes this is Tomlin's D, does anyone really think Butler, coaching under LeBeaus 3-4 all those years, would suddenly want to go to this type of D?

Shazier is a double edged sword. His speed and athleticism really comes in handy but he is so.lihht in the pants. On the long TD Bryant wasn't and shouldn't have been open. Only because Shazier was so easily redirected Prescott had enough time to spot him. He already decelerate his initial route. If a lineman gets his hands on Shazier it is over.

Yeah the 2DL set is all Tomlin, so is the Tampa-2 we play on 3rd and long as well.

That just made me sad... never see a defense like those guys again.

I thought the same after the 70's group...it will come back around again...I may not live to see it...but it will

we may as well go to a 4-3 at this point.
Heyward - Hargraves - McCullers - Tuitt with Shazier, Timmons and Dupree/Chickillo/Moats

big bodies up front, hopefully to fall down at the LOS and create a human speed bump.

Just watched end of shithawks vs cheatreoits and 6-4 230 cam chancellor locked up 6-6 265 drunkcowski and game is over... he also kept Blount out of the end zone. we would have had a 5-10 190 lb safety on them. Zoowpie t fukn dooo!! At the end of the Dallas game we couldnt bring down the te at end in that game either. We need to wake up and meet the challenge of the game as its being played today. You don't have the time to blitz outside linebackers you have to get a punch up the middle with very quick inside tackles and containment and rush with strong ends that get one on one blocking... not with a fat *** nose tackle and slow outside linebackers. You can't play a light in the pants inside linebacker like shazier he gets buried or hurt or both when lineman can get on him and pancake his ***. Its time for a Paradyme shift in WPA. Bring back the curtain!!!

I watched some of if. They were praising Seattle DB #30 being a 6th round pick. Then on New England, they have undrafted Malcolm Butler starting. The Steelers have first and second round picks that can barely get on the field.

IMO, Shazier needs to have a good Dline protect him to let him run around and make plays, and I think it may be time to let Willimas start opposite him and give him a thumper beside him, hell **** Jones, let Timmons play ROLB, if they aren't going to let Harrison play much, at least our 3 best LB's would be on the field.

Oh, I get it now, is that what they were trying to accomplish on the winning TD run by Elliott?

if so, they just became a mountain of man taint since Zeke went right around them. the only fool he had to beat was Jarvis.

They just have no premium pass rushers despite the fact that they have spent a great deal of premium picks.

Boom. Mike drop. Walk off.
