“Opposing offenses can do whatever they want to do right now.”

While harsh in tone, it may also not be inaccurate, as the Patriots hit them for enough big plays to turn an otherwise decent day into a loss.

Of the 362 yards allowed (below their average), the Patriots gained 117 of them on four plays, two of them deep balls to tight end Rob Gronkowski. Those chunk plays were the difference.

Shazier said the early plan on Gronkowski was good, but the Steelers may have fiddled too much with their defense.

“We were giving them calls that Tom didn’t like, and I guess when we changed up a little bit and [Brady] got to seeing things he liked, they took advantage of it,” Shazier said.

“When you think about it, they weren’t having a lot of success,” linebacker Arthur Moats said. “And then you throw those two [Gronkowski] plays in the second half, you look at the scoreboard, and that ends up being the difference.

bend then break - oh well, nobody really expected a win

I'm fine with not expecting to win as a fan. But I'm glad to see our D playing hard and caring about winning. This is the character of a champion.

it sounds like he's throwing butler under the bus

nah, 3 dimensional chess

see, we had something going that was working, but we knew the pats would adjust to what was working so we adjusted first to beat their adjustment

and they just threw to Gronk and beat us easily anyway

Shazier is right, we are playing like garbage right now! Two weeks in a row we get gashed on the ground for over 100 yards or better. Horrible tackling, teams taking advantage of our soft secondary.....it's too obvious. We better improve real soon or it's going to be the last we see of many on that side of the ball....coaches included!!!!!

they should go lbers in the 1st 2 rounds....we need a thumper at SS. someone that has range and over 6'1".

pass rush is priority #1. get as many as we can.

Steelers are terrible at drafting lbs. I would sign a proven pass rusher. Maybe trade up to get a safety and use the rest of the picks on whatever

Seeing as how the edge rushers are not getting the job done and the only QB pressure is from the line, maybe it's time to go 4-3. Heyward/Hargrave/McCullers/Tuitt. I know extra DBs yada yada yada. 3-4 made sense when Pittsburgh had world class edge rushers.

The Steelers should draft a Linebacker in the first round next year.

Complete horseshit!

That's what we been doing for the last 5 years and we got jack to show for it!

Steelers have proven they don't know how to draft for LBers anymore...nothing but busts! Mid rounders for all defense until further notice !

Go ALL offense in 1st 3 rounds for next 3 years - a stud TE, another 2 stud WR's and OT's for Ben's last years..have an unstoppable offense ready for a new starting #1 QB we should draft high next year and have cooking in the wings

He was being sarcastic in case you missed it...

Spike, they already have a loaded ******* offense. It would be nice to have a defense, yes?

How many more ******* offensive players can they draft? They already have too many stars. Brown is getting pissy because Coates and Bell are stealing his touches. There are only so many yards to go around. The truth is, the offense, no matter how ******' great they think they are will NOT score 30 pts every game. So it's pretty important to have a defense that can maybe hold the other team to 20 now and then. Perhaps more often than not even...

Loaded? hardly

We have 1 WR, 1 RB and Ben and that's it. The O-line is in shambles again....I want All Pro's at every position on offense ready for our new QB.

It would be nice to have a top D, but after a decade of busts, the defense is not fixable in the forseeable future.

So NO! The hell with the defense, we've wasted too much time and money on a pitiful return.

I don't know if a dude who plays once every four games because he's always hurt should be talking **** about anything. Stay on the field and make some plays yourself kid, I don't remember hearing his name yesterday?

SS is still needed
OLBer is needed.

But like a few mentioned a OLBer perhaps should be had in free agency. And I am not talking about a Moats type signing. A legitimate fricken pass rusher.

And perhaps Dupree will say healthy next year..And they will have a one two punch at the position.

Steelers need to sign proven pass rushers. Drafting isn't working. They should have plenty of money to invest after this season.

True just sign one solid one instead of mediocre cast offs.

Heyward said the same about the D, Shazier did blow up a screen pass pretty well, hopefully he's 100% after the bye, not sure how long that will last

World class, and usually not even high draft picks to boot. Now we use super high picks (we have FOUR 1st rounders LBs on the roster right now) and still make ****** LB picks.

We have Jones, Shazier, Timmons and Dupree all taken in round one, and what do we have to show for it?

Our best LBs over the years were Harrison (undrafted), Lloyd (6th round), Porter (3rd), Woodley (2nd), Kirkland (2nd), Brown (2nd). And now we use 1st rounders all the time and get ****.

Something is amiss.

Maybe the drafting isn't the problem and it's the coaching. The offensive line had a lot of high picks, but it wasn't until Munchak came in that they really took off. We didn't see much, if any, development under Butler and Porter at outside linebacker. Maybe they need to look in a different direction.

Ask yourself on D whats the worst units, hell on the team for that matter.

WR -good
RB -good
O-line good
QB -good

D-line good

secondary -******
pass rush -******

now tell me

what is the one difference in coaching comparisons

I will tell you

good -is run by true coaches

bad is run by ex players...................

Been saying this for a while...........

this is a good area to start if change is needed..........

I am fine with ex players getting coaching jobs, but I want them to get some experience. I feel that Jerry O. has worked his way up the ladder and earned the ILB coach job. Lake and Porter had limited experience elsewhere before stepping in. Lake had some success early on, but we haven't seen that lately. The offense is loaded with respected, veteran coaches and it shows.

Maybe the drafting isn't the problem and it's the coaching..

Why is Sharmarko still on the team?

The Stubborn Steelers refuse to lose face by admitting they made a mistake?
