Ben to Have Surgery

I almost wish we could forfeit next week's game. That is going to be embarrassing. Only way we had a chance to win that is in shoot out and with Landry Jones at QB, it's going to get ugly.

To hell with this whining bullshit. We will play the game and win. Ben not playing is a big loss but to mail it in with a forfeit is ******* rediculous. PLAY the game, that's why we PLAY the game..............

Reality is the teams defensive core players are all mangled up now. We can't even stop some bum in Miami. Getting to Brady and press covering is our key to winning. And of course running the football.

Ben Roethlisberger injured his knee in yesterday's game vs the Miami Dolphins. Though Ben returned to the game and finished it, he was not the same and was obviously playing with discomfort. The injury turned out to be a torn meniscus, and he will be undergoing surgery today to repair the tear. If this injury is similar to Ben's injury in 2005, he will have a meniscectomy. This is when the doctor cuts the meniscus around the tear and removes it arthroscopically. This surgery typically takes 2-4 weeks to heal, and in 2005, Ben only missed 3 games with his recovery.

In 2005, Ben injured his knee vs the Ravens in week 8, then had surgery to repair his meniscus. Charlie Batch led the team to victories against the Green Bay Packers and Cleveland Browns. Charlie was injured in the Browns game, and Maddox came in to finish it. Both games were wins. Maddox's next start was an overtime loss to the Ravens. Ben then returned week 12 for a Monday Night game vs the Indianapolis Colts. It was probably the worst loss that season, as the Steelers had trouble moving the ball against the Colt's constant pressure. Ben also lost the next game against Cincinnati, but that would be the last time the 2005 team lost a game. The Steelers ended that season winning 8 straight games and hoisted the Lombardi.

It is fortunate that the Bye week falls during Ben's rehab. If he misses the same amount of time, which would be 3 weeks, Ben would only miss 2 games. Knowing Ben's competitiveness, he will want to return to face the Ravens on 11/6, though his knee may not be ready until the Dallas game on 11/13. Either way, when Ben returns, it may take a couple weeks for him to return to game speed. If the Steelers stumble during that time, don't fret. The same thing happened in 2005, and hopefully this season will end the same way, with a Superbowl victory!

Ben will be out more than 2 weeks. I'd give him 4-5 weeks rest. No rushing here, it has to heal properly.

If I hear Tomlin spew his next man up bullshit about this injury, .... I'm gonna puke.

Like someone said earlier, glad Tomlin had him in the game during garbage time. I was screaming "get him out of there dumbass".

The season may not be over, but it is on life support without Ben. He is the ONE person we CANNOT afford to lose.

Wrong.

Knowing Ben's competitiveness, he will return way too early and play against the Ravens, likely further injuring or re-injuring the knee/meniscus tear and could be out for the entire season or continue to be hobbled and less than 100% every ******* game. Come off-season he will have surgery AGAIN to repair what every doctor is saying should be repaired now, with proper rest and rehab.

How much you want to bet me this happens????

to beat dallas we will need cam and shazier to be at their best

Look guys, you don't get a full meniscectomy the day after an injury. You first get a second opinion.

Since surgery was so quick, he's trying to get back for the Ravens game. It has to be a radial tear, close to the edge, and it gets cut out arthroscopically. Easy repair, did the same thing in 2005, and returned after 3 weeks off.

Please do some research before throwing out 4-6 months and season ending surgery. It's just wrong and sloppy speculation.

he is stubborn he will be back in 2 with plenty of painkillers, he knows his team has very little faith in laundry

I say we trade a 5th & 7th for Hoyer

I question the team medical staff. Tomlin if he has the stones can rest Ben until he's ready.

You might be right, but I'll go the other way and say our self described degenerate gambler has some survival instincts and knows full well if Ben comes back too soon and gets hurt he'll be one step closer to the hot seat.

We should have kept Hoyer but Tomlin cut him. He's an excellent back up.

I didn't see us in any kind of serious post season contention this year anyway..to be truthful.

Our scrambled defense without OLBers and a nest of rookie and marginal players wasn't lighting any fires in my expectations. Now with the ambulance tracks wearing a path on the field, it's obvious to me that this year can be the year to fine tune next years run to daylight. I will still enjoy watching the growth of our young db's and keeping a close eye on some other of our defensive prospects both young and experienced....yeh that means you Mitchell.

I agree that next years draft needs to include Ben's future replacement..it's time. He's not done by any stretch, but the recurring blips like this game are becoming more obvious. It's shame we most likely will be without AB next year so I see him trying to pad the offers this year if he can.....aught to be fun to watch. The rest of the Offense is young and should only get better, giving us at least a few more solid wins and more promise of things to come.

As for the theme for the 'Cheats' game, I think I would have to go back to my yout and reconstruct a favorite chant back in that era.

"Hey Diddle Diddle, Bell up the middle"

Wasn't it the Fins vs Pats when the wildcat was first introduced to the league?

Bell at QB with Nix and DWill in the backfield

DJ and Outlaw as the TEs and put AB out there for show...and the occasional reverse.

Let's run 70+ and Pound Pops ***** Patsies into the dirt!!!

If we lose hopefully we can at least have done fun trying to beat them up in a straight up brawl.

I like it. It would be at least fun to watch compared to have to endure LJ getting murdered back there all game. Or, until Bell gets injured . . . errrr!

Enough of the trade for a QB speak that won't even know the offense until Ben is back, let's just throw picks away, wth?

They probably won't have the guts for my wildcat idea so we watch Landry fail, maybe give the other Berger a chance after and see just how bad we are with him so we have some info going into the offseason.

Ben will return hopefully to a team near .500 with Shazier and Heyward hopefully healthy for a stretch run at the playoffs. We need to peak late in the season anyway and having our backs against the wall may help the focus and determination.

HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!

I don't see wisdom in getting Ben back in this season if the recommendation is a 3 month recovery. I don't believe 3 - 4 weeks. With our defense, I figured the Pats and Cowboys games were lost causes with or without Ben. Better luck next year. I watched Bradshaw's career end when he was rushed in to win a game against the Jets. Yeah, we won, but his career was over. Give Ben time to recover.

I blame the FO for the backup QB disaster. This "He knows the system" only goes so far. Two of my kids worked at a local amusement park this summer. They have the usual employees who show up late or not at all. I asked why they didn't fire them. They said they needed people too badly and couldn't afford to fire anyone. My response was if they don't work anyway what are you losing by firing them? LJ knows the system but can'd execute the system so what is the point in keeping him?

Sounds like good news on the knee. We could be 4-4 or 4-5 record wise when he gets back. That doesn't leave much room for error for the rest of the season. I have that little faith in our backups to get **** done.

don't forget - Ladarius Green is set to be activated this week. so Fiji's idea of a TE set could be even more dangerous.

and why not put McCullers' big *** in on short yardage as lead FB or even let his big *** tote the rock? pound on these ******* with the run game and try to keep the scoring low and bwady off the field.

He's going to practice, I think they have 3 weeks to add him to the active roster. They may wait to do that because he won't count against the roster until he's activated. With all the injuries we are low on actual dressed players.

Best case scenario for Ben, he's back v the Rats at less than 100%. Best case scenario he sits til we play the Cowboys and he's probably really close to 100%. I had this same procedure done years ago when I played basketball and I was dunking within 3-4 weeks after. Ben will be fine.

The bigger question is, how long do they stick with Landry when he stinks up the place? Do they make the switch to Mettenberger when they see Landry is ****?

First the Fat Boys break up and now this... I'm listening to the local sports talk show and the DOOM & GLOOM reports have already started. It was like they couldn't wait to mention that report right behind the Falcons getting hosed on that non-pass interference call vs. Seattle. I think I'll avoid watching ESPN & NFL Network until this evening after the hype dies down.

Now I can expect to get asked several times today "What's up with Ben's knee, Dude who's your backup, What's Antonio going to do now, How come your top 3 Offensive players never get to play 4 or more games together, Dude are you going to beat N.E., etc...". Today would be a good day to ask me about the Pitt Football team but they won't.

Landry is a backup. Keep him that way.
Start the berger.
