Just terrible. Under powered, and no pass rush.

Definately noticed he was missing !!!!!! Combine that with the fact our OLBs are weak.

Salute the nation

Didn't he play in the Eagles game? More to it than just Heyward or Shazier.

Heywards replacement didn't make one tackle. I'm sorry Tuitt is decent but a tad over rated. And we have no nose tackle and thin depth for the unit. Our #5 and #6 man would not be on most NFL teams.

Tuitt - McCullers - Hargrave

quite a fall off from anything with Heyward in there.

Shazier and Heyward pretty much make this defense go.

Well,I know that no one wants to probably hear this but I'm throwing it out there anyway. This football team from starter to back-up to practice squad is the sole property and responsiblility of one Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert. Period!

Yes, there are some positions that have been stocked well, like receiver and OL but that's it really.

You have two good starters on the DL and another with hopefully potential and zero quality depth.
Linebackers are the weakest we've had in years with no clear cut dominant player. James is old and really done, Timmons has slowed way down, Dupree is really an unknown and the rest are just guys. Zero quality depth.
Secondary is a patchwork at best. Gay probably couldn't start on any other team maybe the Browns, Cockrell although he's played pretty well should be a solid back-up but he's pressed into starting because we have no one. Burns and Davis are still unknown and all here hope the ceiling is high but neither has done anything to distinguish himself as the guy. Mitchell is a hothead and really just an ok player. Golden is another ok type of player, nothing special. The guys like Ike and Troy have never been replaced adequately.
OL is solid and depth not too bad. WR's very good with solid depth. TE's are ok but neither is and ever will be Heath Miller. Green, we shall see. RB's very good in LBell and DWill now if we would only use them. QB is still solid but aging and NOTHING behind him.
So other than the OL,WR and RB's, we have zero quality depth on this team. This defense is the worst in years and has become what Tomlin has built it to be. SOFT! In past years when the QB whomever that was, if he has an off day like Ben did yesterday, then the defense was always dominating and intimidating enough to take a game over and force turnovers, but not this current version.
This is the team put together by one Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert and now we have to live with for years.

Yep Heyward is the straw that stirs the drink on defense, just like Bell on offense.

I've never seen such a poor performance by our OLB's collectively though. I feel bad saying this, but I feel like we need to ask Silverback to carry more of the load.

The DL sucked with Heyward as far as pass rush goes. Our LBs have to fill those holes and not allow the runs they broke off. We need Shazier back ASAP

No doubt we miss Cam but you're right Hines, the pass rush still sucked with him playing. Our Linebackers are the worst we've had in years and I don't categorize Shazier as one of the worst, he just can't stay on the field and that is not helping this football team.

We only had to lose 4 starters on D before this board looses it's ******* mind and forgets why our D isn't performing. FYI, 2 of those starters are Pro-bowl caliber players. Get Shazier and Heyward on the field and we can run the table.

Tuitt is not great, but good. He needs Heyward, at full strength, playing along the line with him to be at his best

It's unfortunate that just when Heyward fully recovered from his preseason injury, once again becoming a force, he got injured...again.

The Steelers really need to evaluate their training/medical staff. They seem to suck rather badly.

I thought you guys want MORE defensive linemen on the field?

Steelers DE Heyward optimistic about hamstring injury

Defensive end Cam Heyward missed the Dolphins game with a hamstring injury. It was the first time he missed a game in high school, college or his six-year professional career. Whether he misses a second consecutive game won’t be known until later in the week, but Heyward indicated he is healing well.

“I’m optimistic about it, but we won’t know until the end of the week,” Heyward said Monday. “It’s not like we play today. If we played today, I wouldn’t play. I’m going to do whatever I can to get back to 100 percent. In the meantime, guys have to work and guys have to get ready.”

Heyward said he didn’t know if he’d practice Wednesday, but he said he’ll be back at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex today, the players’ off day, to continue his rehab.

“We’ll take it day by day,” he said. “I can’t predict what’s going to happen. I’ll be in here working. All I can do is prepare myself to be ready. But I can’t injure myself anymore because if I do that, I’ll set it back even more. I have to be smart about this. I can’t rush this.”

Green set to practice Wednesday

Tight end Ladarius Green is scheduled to practice with the team this week, but whether the coaches decide to activate him from the physically unable to perform list for the Patriots game is a question for the coaches, Green said.

“I really don’t know,” he said.

Green was signed to replace retired tight end Heath Miller, but when he takes the practice field Wednesday it will be the first time he does so as a members of the Steelers. When he signed in March, the Steelers knew he wouldn’t be able participate in offseason training activities or minicamp.

Green then opened training camp on the PUP list, and the Post-Gazette reported in early August he remained there due to headaches and not his ankle.

The Steelers don’t have to activate Green from the PUP list this week. They have a 21-day window from the first time he practices to determine whether he’ll be activated.

“I’m still just trying to make the team, really,” Green said. “I’m new to it. The tight ends have been playing well so far. They’ve been doing so great.”

Green said the final hurdle in his rehab was being able to jump off his injured ankle.

“I had problems jumping and getting spring off this ankle, but it’s coming along,” he said.

Mitchell on penalties: ‘It can’t happen’

Safety Mike Mitchell was penalized twice Sunday for unnecessary roughness, once in the first quarter and again in the third quarter. The 15-yard penalty in the first quarter helped the Dolphins set up their first field goal. The second helped set up another field goal, but the Steelers blocked it.

“When I was looking at them I didn’t see too much,” Mitchell said. “My teammates and coaches know I play with my heart. I’m an emotional guy. I never want to hurt this team. It’s unfortunate that it happened. So I have to do a better job. The officials always do their best. They do a good job of explaining things to us, or trying to. It can’t happen.”

Mitchell injured his knee against the Dolphins and returned to the game. He said it was sore Monday, but he anticipated he would be fine for the Patriots game.

“We were down so I wanted to come back and try to help us win,” he said. “I’m no different than anyone else on this team.”

It was reported Heyward's "hamstring injury" is a TORN hamstring. I'm thinking he will be out for a while.

he practiced fully today
Also practicing fully on Monday were defensive end Cameron Heyward (hamstring), wide receiver Markus Wheaton (shoulder) and tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), per Adamski.

Heyward is my favorite player on the team right now. The man plays with heart and emotion and doesn't take any ****.

Hope to see him smash Flacco

The Steelers still need that dominant NT to help out Heyward and Tuitt. McCullers is strong but slooooow. If just one NT can fall through that commands double teams. We'd see Heyward having more opportunities, uncle Jarvis would be one to disrupt plays, easier for the LBers and DB's all around. That defense needs to win the trenches. Coming with one dominant guy off the edge isn't helping Butler's scheme at all. But yes the team needs a healthy Heyward

If Heyward had a torn hamstring he wouldnt be practicing even in a limited role.
With or without Heyward, and I said this last season, we need to have at least 3 DL on the field at all times, take one of our ****** OLB's off the field. We are way to easy to run against with 2 DL and we get no push in the pass rush with just 2 DL

I see your 3 down linemen and raise you one.
