I know we're getting a lot of notable play on defense from the younger players. Burns, Davis, Hargrave, Chickillo, and Dangerfield are all players getting their first game experience in the regular season, and doing well.

Though for me personally, the biggest surprise of the season has been Jessie James. He seems to get better every game. The game isn't too big for him, and he walks and plays tall. It's amazing to see a 6'7" TE with his catch radius, and ability to use his vertical to expand it. With Green missing the season thus far on the PUP, the outlaw is making a case that perhaps the FA money needed to sign Green wasn't needed. The difficult thing, once Green returns, is how do you take James off of the field when he is just so productive?

There is no reason to take James off the field IMO. He is the better blocker of the two. Green is more of a Reciever then TE. I think if anyone loses time it's Grimble

I like what I've been seeing in The Outlaw and X-Man. LaDarius can model sweatsuits on the sidelines...

I like what James is doing with his size and in the red zone, but to have a tight end to stretch the field would be nice. Right now, James still looks like a No. 2 tight end option and hasn't shown the ability to dominate the middle of the field like Miller. Maybe in a few years, but a healthy Green would make this offense more dangerous.

I'm most impressed with the team's ability to plug in second and third string players and seemingly not miss a beat. The Steelers have had enough injuries to derail a season and they're 4-1. I don't know if they can sustain it over the course of 16 games, but so far so good.

i'm with you on this one

He has been Ben's secret weapon that nobody gave a thought to before the season started

Jessie James yes.
Coates is on the border of being a threat but still has mental mistakes. Grimble is another surprise. So just like the majority of this thread. The TE position is doing fine

we don't need Jesse James to be a field stretcher, we already have Brown, Bell, Coates, Wheaton. We need a sure handed 6'7" player to catch anything in the middle

Why would we trade Green? When healthy he will keep safeties in the deep middle. Freeing up Brown and Coates. Just because James and Grimble have been good Green's speed will be a added dimension.. James and Grimble get open because of Brown and Bell. Brown and Bell and the other WRs will get open because of the respect for Green's athleticism.

also players are falling like flies, why lose depth?

We kindaof seen some flashes of Coates and just like Jesse Jamesssssssss last year. So Grimble and Hubbard and Finney and Dangerfield are my note worthies.........

I gotta go with our backup O-lineman...these guys are playing their ***** off. Cockrell looks very solid as well.

Not one single into bya DB.

THinkley about this. Jarvis Jones is tied for most ints on the team and tied for 4th in PD....

Shaz, JJ and Harrison have our only ints.

I don't think Green would have any impact on James in terms of playing time. They guy he will replace is Wheaton and Rogers as the slot WR.

Burns and Davis are surprises to me. I saw them both as project players but they are contributing immediately. They both make mistakes but you also see their athleticism and instincts. Both of them are constantly around the ball, so close to making some really big plays.

This is a huge for a defense that has no pass rush at all. Harrison is the only OLB that can rush. Dupree is still a question. Jarvis is proving once again to be mediocre. Chickillo shows a few sparks but he looks like his ceiling is to be a decent #2 guy and not the main pass rusher.

It's been a long time since rookies have made any impact at all on defense.

I'm also surprised we haven't seen a bit more from Hargrave. I know he has lots to learn but with the Steelers starving for pass rush, i thought he'd be able to use his quickness and get a few more pressures than he has.

You also have to list Berry as a surprise. He was awful last year. I wanted them to draft a replacement. They did sign Will Monday who was a good rookie prospect and maybe that competition was enough to spark Berry to break out. In either case, it looks like the steelers have struck gold at Kicker and Punter

Berry is a freaking monster so far this season. Do they LET punters into the Pro-Bowl? ;-)

imo, cockrell has been the biggest surprise.. Nothing much said of him last year. Blake drew the blame for most of the breakdowns. Cockrell is taking on the best receivers . Doing well at it.

Like Ike, **** isn't the best at catching. I thought he did a good job on Marshall. That td catch by Marshall went through ****'s hands. The kid is doing decent

While James has been a pleasant surprise, and Berry is much improved my vote for biggest surprise is Vince Williams. He's not just a good back up, he's lighting them up in the games.

Trade Green?

Who would take an injured player who might have mislead an NFL team about his health? Green isn't tradable. No one is going to pick up his salary.
