Akeem Ayers was cut by St. Louis and still only 27.

Option?

We already made our roster move.

We picked up a back up LB to fill his spot. Moats will start and deserves to based on our roster.. Plus, Moats had a good preseason. I believe he led the team in sacks.

But isn't Steven Johnson an inside backer? I like Moats, but I have to agree, we're really thin at OLB depth. I know Chick was supposedly great at camp, but he disappears in game action. Hopefully he can rise to the task, we're gonna need it.

Game 4 of preseason he was making plays all over the field.

Against guys who will be bagging groceries and selling insurance instead of playing football.

I actually like Chick, but let's hold off judgement until we see him in a actual regular season game against NFL caliber players.

I wouldn't mind it if they looked around some to shore up OLB depth, but I doubt they bring anyone in at this stage. If they get really desperate I presume they'll bring up Feeney from the practice squad.

We have 4 OLBs on the roster, that's enough. There's no one on the street who is going to come in and be better than what we have, when you account for the 2 months it'll take new guy to learn the defense. Dupree should be healthy by then.

Thing is we don't see inside the Steelers practices for up close evals. We don't know how further along his development is.

With one or two year players you get glimpses, but that doesn't necessarily mean they will or won't take that next step.

Coaches get their feel for it. Right now Chick is 4th on the depth chart. For that positioning it looks solid from what he has put on tape in the preseason. Film, camp reports, etc.

Sure we have to see it in game time, when he does play.

But I think he is on the rise.

We're stuck with Jarvis as our only shining hope of a breakout yet again.

I'll keep thinking that's gonna happen....till the day he no longer plays for us. Let this be the year, we need him to step up more than ever!

Wonder how crazy this site would go if JJ finally had his breakout season and went 10+ sacks (felt crazy just writing that scenario) and was then rewarded with a 4-5 year big deal?

Really hoping JJ has that breakout and gives us a tough decision, we really need increased production from him...even better dream scenario is Silverback goes 10+ sacks and contemplates coming back for a repeat SB run to remain that ever present thorn in Goodell

Chickillo's big opportunity is here.
Yep. Better seize the bull by the horns because this is his chance to prove he can be the guy. I don't need him to be Kevin Greene but it he can set the edge and get some pressure 8 or more sacks a season I'd be happy.

Exactly this. It's JJ's time to step it up.

We've been waiting 3+ years for that to happen

yep but now his future is on the line more than ever

contract year

Do you actually think that people would prefer Jarvis continues to suck? That's crazy, we would be completely ecstatic
