Position/Roster Battles to Watch Against the Panthers

this one

–Punt Returner: Eli Rogers Vs. Demarcus Ayers. Throughout the preseason, Eli Rogers has been the Steelers starting punt returner. However, his position is far from secure at this point as his punt returns have been a bit inconsistent. While Rogers has been the darling of the wide receivers through three games, Demarcus Ayers has a chance at knocking off Rogers as a punt returner. Ayers has shown flashes of potential on offense (not as much as Rogers, though). If Ayers can put together a solid night of punt returns, the Steelers could have a difficult decision on their hands with their 7th-round pick. Don’t get confused, though. Rogers has firmly secured his roster spot and has no chance of losing it.

If there isn't an extra position for Ayers, I'm cutting him and letting Rogers be the guy. I would say Rogers is a lock with his play at WR. Just don't know if they keep an extra WR exclusively for returns. There is precedent for this in the past with Stefan Logan.

I know the odds are extremely against Ayers making the 53 man roster...but I can still watch and hope that Ayers gets enough touches to make an impression on the staff and get added to the practice squad.

But will he clear waivers?

I don't think that Ayers will attract a lot of attention from other teams so I see no reason for him to not clear waivers.

Not against Ayers, just don't think we will have a spot for him on the final roster. Practice squad would be great and maybe he gets called up later

Ayers does not have enough on tape to attract a lot of attention from other teams....unless he takes a couple of punts all the way tonight.....

I agree.

I heard the Ravens are looking at Ayers bigtime. I mean bigtime

Ayers will be battling with Hamilton for the PS. Probably both make it

I don't think Hamilton is eligible for the practice squad.

With our depth at WR I'd say let Ayers walk. Cobi Hamilton has played better than Ayers and IMO is more deserving of a practice squad spot.

They should also send Doran Grant packing the kid sucks!

I love Tyler Matekevich that kid can play he just needs a year or so to develop and I think you will see this kid blossom into an NFL LB'er.I just hope they can hide him on the practice squad.

Ayers is the same size as Rogers....

I think Rogers is a little taller, faster and heavier.

But in terms of football IQ and being ready for the NFL, Rogers is much > than Ayers.
