Beats out a top draft choice. I wonder if that helps our compensation next year?

Winner! Winner! Chicken dinner!!

It does. If he starts, the escalation clause makes him a 8-10mil player. 3rd or 4th round pick depending on who we pick up.

I've been to several games and watch Joeckel up close - HE'S TERRIBLE at LT. Just flat out TERRIBLE.

Beachum is a guy I loved to root for and wished we could have kept him around for another for the long haul. Even though he's in Jacksonville, I want to see him succeed.

This alone is enough reason to wish Beachum a lot of success. He seemed like a good person when here, left for more money and we have a pretty good replacement in place. So here's to Kelvin getting us ther highest compensatory pick possible.

good guy. he didn't really get the money he deserved. I guess coming off injury limited that. I though we could have resigned him

I am glad he is going to get paid this year and hopefully we get ourselves a 3rd round pick for our former 7th round pick. I think he still has to kick himself for not taking the deal we offered because now he has to hope he stays healthy because he really is on a year to year deal with Jacksonville. He likely will not make what he would have if he'd of taken our offer but you sometimes get bad advice from your agent.

Wow, I had no idea Joeckel was sucking that bad. He was pretty much a can't miss guy during the draft wasn't he? Just goes to show, you never know till they hit the NFL.

Joe

an extra 3rd rounder would be huge.
i will say this now - next year's draft is setting up to be a perfect time to trade up and get a blue-chipper.

1. we are pretty much young all over the team.
2. the offense is supremely skilled and doesn't NEED anyone in the 1st round. maybe they could go after TE, but doesn't have to be rd1. not a premium position.
3. next year's draft is ripe with OLB's...and we obviously need one.
4. we will have a few extra picks.
5. we have upgraded on defense at several positions.
6. we only have a few positions that have needs (OLB, TE, backup RB, possibly ILB/CB).

if JJ doesn't produce this year, i think we could be looking at trading up to get a blue-chip OLB. let's face it; that's what the defense needs.
we have invested resources at CB/S/DL and ILB in the last 3 years. while we have Bud, a guy that can consistently produce 10-14 sacks a year would make it great.
with the extra picks, i'm not sure we even have enough room for them all. our team is young and is only a piece or two away from being a consistent SB contender.
