Pre-season rookie draft grades.

And your grades for performance from the rookies to this point are?

I don't see much disagreement here on what I wrote, outside of one poster who really likes Ayers.
The grades on any rookie after 3/4ths of a preseason ought to either be
1. Failed- cut
2. Incomplete- injured
Or 3. Incomplete- because after 3 ******* preseason games you cant know **** about how a guy is going to really do...

The grades are from:

1 ) How they played in camp practices via web reports.

2 ) How they played in 3 pre-season games

After 30+ practices reports and 3 games of action, I'm okay with a pre-season grade. Some players did get an Inc, and that's not a good thing because they were out of action.

I think Hargrave proved a lot.

No one disagrees because no one cares

We drafted these guys why, if the grades are so low which they deserve then what exactly were we looking at? Ayers has had what three nice plays.

If you are someone who can go to most of the practices and see all the games, plus have video so you can see what the players do when the ball is not heading there way, then sure....grade the players.

what I like about Ayers is that the first guy always misses him. Even on the pass out to him on the sideline last game when the OL missed his block, Ayers made the DB covering him miss...unfortunately there was another Saint right there. On each of the punt returns against the Saints, he was aggressive and caught the ball and made the first guy miss....but there were too many others there for him to have a chance to do anything. Hopefully he has shown enough to get an invite to the practice squad and who knows what can happen from there.

Eli right now is our #4 receiver. DHB is 5. Eli is pushing for #3 and IMHO is our best slot option after AB (who can play anywhere).

If Wheaton gets hurt or faulters, I can see Eli as our starter and Coats still being our #3 playing on the outside and moving Eli to the slot.

if wheaton gets hurt or faulters Coates will be the #2 on 2 WR sets

And still be outside IMO.

I think the slot is there for Rogers from the getgo. Coates will be rotated in.....

Agreed, that's why I didn't say Eli would be #2 if Wheaton goes down.

Personally, I think it will be situational on how they will rotate Eli/Coats on 3 Wide sets. RZ and early downs, I'd have Coates on the field for his speed and blocking. If we're trying to pick up a 3rd down, I'd rather have Eli's shiftiness. Personally, I think the 4 WR sets are going to increase this year, since we don't yet have a TE that merits being on the field to pick up a first down over Eli, DHB, or Coates.

Let's save everyone some time.

Anyone Colbert has drafted in the last 10 years = F
Joel's (errr Coach) picks in the last 10 years = A+

Eli is #3 in a 3 WR set. He's our slot guy.

Coates can make big plays, but he's more of a 4th WR for now in the 4 WR sets.

The Steelers will mix and match the WRs with Brown. There will be no true no 2 or three or four etc..these guys will be in and out. Also expect to see Bell lines up heavily at WR when he gets back..

I agree he's the best slot guy, but depending on matchups and personnel, AB or Wheaton move to the slot with Coates and the other on the edge.
