he Bus made a stop on Cullen Boulevard.

Pro Football Hall of Fame running back Jerome Bettis spoke to the University of Houston as the guest speaker for the annual Champions Night on Thursday.

Bettis delivered a 30-minute speech to the team in the Carl Lewis Auditorium, emphasizing that becoming a champion "takes a lot of hard work" and "is not going to be easy."

"You want to try and influence and impact the next group of young men that have an opportunity to do something special," Bettis said. "To come here and talk to them and hopefully inspire them in a little bit of way that it makes a difference in at least one of those guy's lives."

UH coach Tom Herman met Bettis – one of only six players to rush for more than 13,000 yards in NFL history - earlier this month while filming segments at ESPN as part of the American Athletic Conference media days.

"What an honor for us and our programs and kids," Herman said. "I think it's always good to have someone from the outside, someone who has been to the mountaintop.

"Probably 95 percent of the things he said were things we say in our program every day. It adds validity to the message we are sending our players when a guy like Jerome Bettis can come in and from the heart really say pretty much exactly the same things that we're saying."

This is the second year UH has held Champions Night, a tradition Herman brought with him from Ohio State. Mike Vrabel, an Ohio State alum, three-time Super Bowl champ and current Texans linebacker coach, addressed the team prior to the 2015 season.

Cool story bro.

Another story about players doing good things off the field.

Always a good hear...........

looks like he lost some weight by that pic

I was about to say the exact same thing.

And what's that weird hand signal thing the two guys are doing? Are they trying to make him look bad with the rabbit ears thing behind his head?

No to take anything away from Bettis, but what kind of $$$coin does one make for a speaking engagement such as this???

Salute the nation
