NFL denies Cowboys' request to wear helmet decal honoring Dallas police

Despite their best efforts, the Cowboys' helmets will not feature a decal supporting Dallas police officers this season.

According to Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News, the NFL denied the team's request for permission to include a decal reading "Arm In Arm" on their lids for the upcoming season. That decal, which the team has been wearing on its helmets during training camp, is in support of Dallas Police and the officers killed in July's sniper attack.

After hearing back from the league on Wednesday, Cowboys vice president Stephen Jones gave the following statement, as reported by George.

"Everyone has to be uniform with the league and the other 31 teams. We respect their decision," said Jones."There are so many wonderful, wonderful causes, the league has to be careful. If you allow one, then what do you do about every team that has a great reason to have something on their helmets?"

The NFL has unapologetically enforced it's strict uniform policies for years. Just last season the league denied the request of Steelers running back DeAngelo Williams to wear pink gear all season in honor of his mother, who passed away from breast cancer. Williams was also fined for having the message "Find the cure” printed on his eye black during a game.

See, this is what I don't get. They allow pink for an entire month, then state there are a lot of good causes and we can't represent them all.
Don't get me wrong, breast cancer is a worthy cause, but so is pancreatic cancer, etc.

But maybe that wouldn't increase the fan base as much and sell more NFL merchandise.

I am perfectly fine with the NFL's ruling on the Cowboys, but I also think that they should ditch pink month. I'm sure some good comes out of it, yet I don't believe they'd be doing it if it wasn't to make a greater profit.

You'd think they'd have prostate cancer awareness for football. 90% of the fans are male and I'd say the majority don't get screened for prostate cancer like they should. Must not be enough money in trying to save our lives lol

The pink **** is to sell into an emerging demographic.

The NFL doesn't need more 50 yr old males, or supporters of cops. They have all they are going to get already.

What this demonstrates is a callous disregard for respect of those same NFL fans and their needs, and a pandering to hopeful new $$.

******* Roger is a transparent shill for money, and he doesn't give a **** about anyone reading this, only for the incremental new fan he hopes to gain in new demographic groups like women and foreigner in foreign markets.

You don't mess with the helmet. That is your brand. Though, I don't know why they don't make a patch and sew it on the jersey. Not only is it acceptable to place a patch on the jersey, but you will sell a **** ton of them if you do. Helmet sales are never as big as jerseys.

one needs to remember that these guys, the ones in the nfl inner circle are as out of touch with us, the sports fans as is possible. It is very likely that other than some biology I have doubts about badell we have virtually nothing in common.

The helmet is the Team's brand...the Team should be able to do with it whatever the **** they decide

They can't honor fallen citizens who do good for the community? **** the nfl

As a marketer, that is the exact opposite of what a brand is. The brand is your identity. You don't stray from or modify it, unless your brand doesn't resonate.

Denver, NE, and TB changed their brands for the better and increased their sales nationwide. You don't rebrand "The Star". It's iconic.

who is talking about changing the star? they wanted to add a decal on the back of the helmet to honor the slain officers....this would not alter their "brand"

Cowboys should turn the star on their helmet into a Sherriff's star, then sell hats with that star for charity.

I'm ok with the decals. The nfl just doesn't give a damn unless it's their corporate gain. It's not rebranding an already iconic logo. It's enhancing and adding positive tradition to an already iconic logo. Eh whatever floats roger goofballs boat

Can a team choose to not go along with the "pink month"? Are only politically correct causes allowed?

I'm sure some dicksucking transgender I'm ****** in the head month awareness month is in the near future

Jerruh is rich, he should have told them to **** off and done it anyways. It's a sticker on the back of the helmet.

The one I never got was "Hispanic heritage month" nothing against Latinos or Latinas but a month??? Which room in the hof do they take up.. Nfl is just flat funking goofy when it comes to this ****. If football wasn't so loved by the base they would be dangerously close to ruining the game.

I'm latino and didn't get it either dude. I think the same thing. Lol

I say let football be football. If teams want to honor their city/law enforcement etc. Then if the owner is up for it. I say do it. Not some corporate pink bullshit. I understand it's supposed to be a good cause. But the league can spread awareness with a more hands on off field approach. The whole political correctness has infiltrated sports culture sadly
