Shouldn't Harrison just announce this is his last season?

That way, his teammates could be extra motivated to win a ring his last year, like Ray Lewis and the Ravens did. I really doubt he has another year in him after 2016.

Why not?

Uh, I think he has made that pretty clear already.

The outside linebacker is under contract for one more year, and after an initial hesitation about returning, he plans to come back for his 14th season. Harrison can bow out of the contract if he wants to.

James Harrison doesn't want the 2015 season to be his last.

Fresh off of his first three sack game in over four years, Harrison has said that he wants to return for the 2016 season, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. In his 13th season and 12th season with the Steelers, Harrison's contract runs through the 2016 season.

No, James should keep the option open to come back if he feels up to it......

He'll need another contract after this year. Not too many 40 yo LBers gettin' some of that.

James isn't the ordinary LBer. He isn't the superstar he once was but I could see him being serviceable for this year and next.

Not like he plays every snap, so there is that too.

Steelers should sign him to a lifetime contract for a billion dollars. Simple really.

His team mates know. I prefer Tim Duncan to Kobe. I find the this is my last season to be pay homage to me.

He wasn't supposed to last year either but he was still that much better than Jarvis.

lets hope this team needs no motivation to go for the gold, Time is running on Ben, If Bell and Bryant had a brain the offense would be terrific. If the defense makes the stride they made at end of year at the beginning of this year we would be a team to recon with.

Not too many 40y/o linebackers making the impact 92 still does. He's still has something to give to help the team and he's a leader on a young defense. Worth every penny he gets IMO.

James announcing his retirement after the year should not be necessary for the other players to be motivated to win the SB, and there is the whole he has never been a media ***** thing.

Maybe they do know, maybe he comes back

Why give Goodell the satisfaction of seeing the light at the end of the tunnel?

I think the main difference is James already has rings. Bettis did not

Ray didn't announce his retirement until they qualified for the playoffs, so there's that...

As lon as he keeps getting the same HGH that Manning did all good.

I think Sam Mills played that long, but he was an ILB. James was still productive last year but he can't go forever. I didn't know if the team would play with extra motivation knowing it was his swan song.

This team should be motivated to win that 7th as is. That's an historical achievement. I just wish that in my lifetime I'd get to see a Pens/Steelers/Pirates/UGA championship in one year. That would be crazy

James Harrison does NOT need to announce his retirement. His team mates and coaches allready have a pretty good indication as to what his future plans hold. Why make a mockery out of his retirement?? The TEAM doesn't need a retiring LB announcement for motivation, sheeeesssh.
