Just missed the cut, Brown, Little and Holmes. Shazier with a few more good seasons should rate.

Coach, you've left some great Steelers off the list because of the lack of time with the team, but Shazier makes your list after just two seasons and 17 starts?

I banged by ankle today into the dishwasher while left open. Not sure what I was thinking, but a connection to the often injured Shazier was made. Nickerson was a good player, and more proven. Adjusting my list now.

I don't think Chad Brown is top 5. He didn't really breakout until he was moved to OLB after Lloyd got hurt. He really only had 1 above average year at ILB out of the 3 he played the position. I'd put Timmons at #5, just edging out Robin Cole and David Little. I agree with the top 4.

Jack Lambert
James Farrior
LeVon Kirkland
Hardy Nickerson
Lawernce Timmons.

Honerable mention: Jerry Olsavsky.

Bryan Hinkle!! I had to say him because I had beers with him one night. And he was pretty solid but not on very good teams.

1: Lambert---Mean, face of Steelers football ******** legend*
2: Kirkland---that boy was a monster
3: Farrior---underrated, dominate 2004-2008 run
4: Earl Holmes---probably not even top 5 material. But one of my faves as a Steeler
5: Timmons---Has been a solid contributor since becoming a starter

Earl was great as a thumper vs. the run, but would be too limited in today's game in coverage.

I'd compare him to Vince Williams. Williams is great against the run, football smarts makes him ok in coverage. Lack of speed is what plagues them

1. Lambert
2. Cap'n Kirk
3. Potsie
4. Timmy
5. Shazier (potential to move up on athleticism alone)

Still loved Bell and Merriweather though.

Totally agree on Bell. ONLY thing was his short lived career. Definately shamboozeled the cheifs. He did fulfill that 4yr deal with them but never ever came close to original form. I think he had 4 or 5 sacks in that contract term.

Salute the nation

how in the hell can Timmons be on a list when we should have had the oft-injured All-World Sean Lee? You people are nuts.

We should have taken Lee over Worilds. I would have. That was the debate.

Bell was the first player I used to go back and watch games over and over for. He used to destroy guards and tackles on the way to the QB or RB. It was fantastic to watch.

Brian Hinkle deserves to be on that list

12 year career, no easy feat. Steeler mvp 1986

PS. Interesting tidbit I came across,, that I did not know. Guess who the Steelers 10th round pick was in 1981 ?????? Anyone ,,, ? No you cant google it ,, so ill just tell you. S Mike Mayock, Boston College.

Hinkle was an OLB. A decent all arounder type.

I'll never forget his valiant effort against the brownies in the '02 playoff game. That defense limited William green to a stat line of: 20 carries for 25 yards. That 02 season is when Bell started dealing with that high ankle sprain and missed some time that season. But man, he was a force all over Heinz Field that snowy day. Of course, a secondary of Dewayne Washington, Brent Alexander and Chad Scott made Kelly Holcomb look like Joe Montanna and contributed to the Steelers having to come back from 17 down, but Bell's play that day always stood out to me. Especially the way they bottled up the cleve running game.

Letting Hardy Nickerson get away was one of the worst mistakes of the Cowher era. He got even better after he left.

As many have said, the 3-4 is different than the 4-3, but one thing is certain, Jack Lambert was one bad ************. He pancaked the toughest RBs of the era, and played the pass as well as any LB.
