Report: Steelers want Alan Faneca as a full-time coach
by Bryan DeArdo
Jun 17, 1:02 PM

Pittsburgh fans aren't the only ones who are excited to see Alan Faneca reunited with the Steelers.
According to Bob Labriola of Steelers.com, its up to Faneca to decide how much--and how long--he will coach with the Steelers after his "internship" with Pittsburgh was extended to include the opening segments of training camp. Initially, Faneca agreed to work with the team during OTAs and during the team's three-day minicamp.

"How long Faneca spends in Latrobe likely will be tied to how much he can stand, because Coach Mike Tomlin is eager to have him impart his wisdom and experience on a group that has developed into more of a team strength over the past couple of seasons," Labriola wrote. "And Faneca gets to sample the life of an NFL assistant with a team and in an environment that is very familiar to him."
Faneca, a nine-time Pro Bowler, six-time All-Pro and a Hall of Fame finalist this past year, has made an impact during his brief time on Pittsburgh's coaching staff. Working alongside Hall of Fame linemen Mike Munchak, Faneca made an immediate impression on guard David DeCastro, who was named an All-Pro for the first time last season.
"He’s a lot of fun and a good guy and obviously he’s helping out a lot," DeCastro said of Faneca. “First of all, it’s a guy that you watched growing up. A little star-struck, a little like, this guy you love watching him on tape. What a player, his resume speaks for itself, but yeah, having two Hall of Fame guys in the room is awesome and it’s pretty hard to beat that.”

I didn't even know he was coaching.

I'll take it as anything that helps better the team is a plus. Fanaca was a pretty good player and NOT from that much of a different era. The game has changed but not that much as to when he was playing. GOOD job Coach Tomlin...........

Faneca must have made quite the impression given that the team already has the top OL coach in the league as well as an assistant. He is one of my favorites and would love to see him on the staff.

I'm sure someone here will have an issue with this.

3...2...

I still remember Faneca acting like a tool on his way out of town.

But glad he is helping out. Never hurts to have been there done that, teaching some positional tips....

Munchak and Faneca. I like this. I like this a lot.

True story:
Not throwing names out to act like im something..

The year Faneca was drafted, I had called Donahoe to tell him I was going to training camp and see if I could score some sideline passes.
Woman answered the phone and asked who is calling.. And I thought I would be funny. So I said Alan Faneca. She put me on hold and then he came on the phone.
Donahoe wasn't amused.. But I did get passes.

Donahoe was my football coach at West Allegheny my Junior and Senior year.

I hope adding Faneca doesn't mean Munch is looking to leave.

Can't have enough HoFers on the staff. Great news.

I hope he stays to coach. What a great environment to learn in. So, after he gets this year to learn from Munch, he can be OL coach. Munch will be head coach and Tomlin can sell flip flops in the mall.

Why would you want Coach Tomlin to sell flip flops in the mall????? M.Tomlin has had his difficulties but is maturing into a very solid coach. If you thionk it is that easy to replace a quality coach, then why HAVEN"T many other teams been able to put the "block buster" coach in place????? I think Tomlin is here for quite sometime. Is there better out there, possible but also realize there is DEFINATELY worse.

He left like an angry red-headed step child. Just because someone is physically superior doesn't mean they can coach; as a matter of fact, it is usually opposite of that: great players make bad coaches.

All he is doing, if he has any brains, is to learn of the master, Munch, which will give him a nice resume bullet to get hired as a head OL coach some day.

As far as feeling warm and fuzzy about the ginger head being here, I do not. He was a red *** most of his career.

Has Tomlin shown a propensity to be good at selling flip flops?

Wow. Who would have known it would be pop to have an issue with this. Surprise surprise.

You seem to have serious psychological issues with redheads. Any bad experience with a ginger?

No, I had some awesome experiences with female gingers. They tend to fall in love with me.

redhead women are psycho yet fun in bed.

I just wrote my opinion given your dislike for Faneca and his hair color

Only POP could say great players make bad coaches and then in the next sentence say Faneca should learn off the master Munch.
