**** you. Yes he is.

I already know what you're going to say, and you're wrong.

Plenty of HOF players with only 5 Pro Bowls including Art Donovan. Will finish this season with the Steelers sack record . Authored one of the SINGLE GREATEST PLAYS in Super Bowl history, and was the very best player at his position for multiple years.

With the passing of Ali, I have to start standing up for my favorite Steeler of all time, that he is appreciated in his time and just after he croaks.

Problem is will the voters vote him in ?

I love me some Deebo, but with his shorten span of dominance not sure he will get the nod.

There is an anti-Steelers bias. Many think we have too many in the Hall already, even though the Bears, Giants and Packers all have more players than us. Hines, Ben and Troy are all locks. Harrison and Hampton are great players who get overlooked for a variety of reasons. I see Big Snack as a bubble player, but Harrison has the resume to get in.

First ballot? No. But down the road I think it happens. Another problem is that we keep generating greatness. AB looks the part. Bell and Pouncey are both the best in the league when healthy. If this team was to get healthy and go on a sustained 2-4 year run, a serious Steelers logjam would result in about 10 years.

Harrison is in. He hs the numbers and a dpoy. He has the highlights... Guys like hampton or aaron smith have to wait till the vets vote on them to see if they have a chance, but deebo will be in long before that

Yes he is. One of the meanest linebackers out there. SB43 int return, the tackling of the browns fan, jumping over Ladainian Tomlinson in '05, lighting up Ed Reed on a punt return, so many rules changed because of his hits. The dude changed the game

Aaron Smith and Hampton don't have the numbers to wow you. However we Steelers fans know how much underrated they were at their position. Hampton had a few standout years. But his best years were where he was under the radar. I still stand by the notion that a dominate NT dictates the success of a 3-4 defense. Especially if your NT requires a double team. That makes the rest of the front 6's job that much easier

I can't remember a player that was held as much as him, I will say that.

I think he'll get in but not right away. It will take a few years. Also I rather doubt that he gives a crap. Be the shortest acceptance speech ever.
Deebo walks to podium wearing gold blazer.
"Thanks y'all.
Deebo sits down.

I consider him a HOFer. Like I do for Lloyd as well. Personally I hope his speech is "**** Goodell" (drops mic)

His career sack total is really low(67th overall). He does have a pretty convincing peak value argument. He was basically the best defensive player in both 2008/2010.

You got that right.

I wonder what older Giants fans would say about LT in his prime. Was he held as much? I didn't watch every minute of their games like I do and did Steeler games. I would be kinda interesting to get some perspective, because I agree that Harrison was held all the time. If they didn't allow even half of it, imagine what his sack totals would be.

I think the best OLB I ever saw was Jack Ham. But I think if Harrison played in the 70s he may have been Ham-like. I mean more with interceptions. Hell, Ham would have 6 in a year, unheard of today in LBs. Harrison has proved he can catch the ball, so I don't see why not.

Harrison's story is a classic "rags to riches" tale for sure. Cut by multiple teams, multiple times over several years, plays for Rhine Fire, special teams work horse....he did it all on his path to being a true HOF candidate, BUT.

Similar to Pete Rose, you can't pull the mask off the ole Lone Ranger and you can't mess around with Goodell. . Stuff like this goes into your record and doesn't come out.

Harrison's 2010 season was marred by committing several penalties and fouls. He was fined for the hits that were deemed to be illegal by referees and the NFL. In Week 2, Harrison was fined for flipping Vince Young of the Titans.[26] On October 17, he knocked out two Browns wide receivers; Mohammed Massaquoi, and his former college teammate, Josh Cribbs. On Halloween against the Saints, he hit quarterback Drew Brees late from behind. Against the Raiders, he hit another QB, Jason Campbell. The following week at Buffalo, another incident occurred when Ryan Fitzpatrick had thrown a complete pass to David Nelson, Harrison came out of the line and speared Fitzpatrick. Harrison was fined an estimated $120,000 in total.

Harrison was arrested in March 2008 and was charged with simple assault and criminal mischief stemming from a domestic altercation with his girlfriend, Beth Tibbott.[39]

On July 13, 2011, a controversial magazine article titled "James Harrison: Confessions of an NFL Hitman" was published by Paul Solotaroff in Men's Journal.[50] In the article, Harrison was asked multiple questions about who he is and why he plays the game of football the way he does. The controversy comes into play when Harrison begins talking about the NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Harrison called Goodell a "crook and a puppet", and then proceeded to say that "I hate him and will never respect him.” Harrison also made comments towards his quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger, and other players in the National Football League such as Brian Cushing.

He's got my vote though, for whatever that's worth but politics may come into play here, let's hope not but we'll just have to wait and see.

Its the media who votes, though... and the Media loves guys who gave them stories. They wont put him in first ballot or anything, but when you read enough from the voters, you understand that the story is more important to them than the stats. A lot of people thought Swann would never get in for his stats and length of playing career... or Gale Sayers... Terrell Davis gets in eventually despite being a product of the Denver System moreso than other RBs, because his story was great. The deciding factor is often "can you tell the story of the NFL in the players era without mentioning him... and with Harrison, no you absolutely cannot....

It's called the "Hall of Fame" not the "Hall of Stats."

Yes, I totally know this. But there's several guys active that have a considerable amount more sacks than he does. It's just going to take him some time to get in.

Yes, I totally know this. But there's several guys active that have a considerable amount more sacks than he does. It's just going to take him some time to get in.

Shouldn't JH at least be compared to other LBers?

say they vote 5 people in, and each player played a different position.

Sure he might get the nod over another LBer, but they aren't voting the best of 5 LBers in.

They ultimately will be in a pool of various positions. And if they feel they deserve the nod, then they will go. But knowing how there is other Steelers not going in due to how many are already in the HOF.

It won't be a easy in.

Shouldn't JH at least be compared to other LBers?

It's a dog **** comparison on a variety of levels.

1. JJ was a first round draft pick. He didn't have to fight his way up from the practice squad.

2. The reason JJ was a first round pick is that he played big time college ball, Harrison was a small school prospect

3. Positions matter. DL have more sacks. They also spend a lot less time in coverage.

4. JJ plays on the left side. That means he rarely faces the best pass protectors in the league. Harrison gets choked out by them week in and week out.

So when they decide whether he deserves to be in the HOF they don't judge him to other LBers in there or some LBer criteria? So they compare him to DL, QB's, RB's etc...who might also be up for the HOF?

They will ..............but they also are going against other players from other positions and coaches. When it comes down to this guy or that guy. That other guy might be a T and they think he was more dominating at T for a longer time than say Harrison was at OLBer.

The selection committee evidently has a shaky track record when selecting OLBers, among others.

The Pro Football Hall of Fame uses only media representatives to select inductees. This, along with its policy of inducting only a maximum of seven players a year (six in certain years past), with a current maximum of two "senior" candidates and five "non-seniors," has been criticized by sports columnists, former players, and football fans.

The small number of candidates elected each year has helped foster what some perceive as an inequality of representation at certain positions or in certain categories of player, with defensive players in general and defensive backs and outside linebackers in particular, special teams players, wide receivers, deserving players who primarily played on bad teams, and those from the "seniors" category, being slighted.

Oh by the way, I didn't know that being on the HOF selection committee was a lifetime gig. Once appointed to the job, it's yours till you quit.
