With Bryant out for the year, how will Wheaton do?

Wheaton showed us he's capable of a big game.

Wheaton's biggest problem was he was always a 3rd to 4th best option type of player. Not this year, with Byrant out and a new Tight End starting, Wheaton will have a chance to have his best season.

You'd have to assume he starts at Wide Receiver.

Last year Wheaton started 8 games.

His stats were thus.

79 targets. 44 catches, 749 yards, ( 17.0 per catch ) 5 TD's

By contrast, Bryant had 92 targets last season. Someone has to make up for those targets, and I think Wheaton gets the lion's share.

This season, I think Wheaton ( if healthy ) will approach 95-100 total targets, which means he has a chance for 1,000 yards receiving. Perfect for him as his contract is up after the season ends.
 
Wheaton showed flashes last year and had a few big games. He is capable. I am hoping Coates has his share of touches too.

AB, Wheaton, Green, Coates, Bell. Good luck covering all of those guys. Even without Bryant, that's a handful.

The offense scored 6.4 points less when Bryant does not play. That is a lot. Coates is still raw, and not as fast or dynamic as Bryant is.

Still, I expect Wheaton to have his best season. Ben picked him as the breakout player for 2015.

There are virtually NO players as dynamic as Bryant, period. He is near Randy-Moss-ish. I like what Coates showed in the Denver playoff game. And coaches rave about him. We will be fine.

Coates could be a gamer type who plays much better than he practices. I hear he drops too many in practice.
 
Don't forget they have TE who can get deep now compared to a fading Heath Miller.


So you had

Wheaton
Bryant

and now

Green VS Heath - You gain a little deep ball with Green
Bryant VS Coates- You lose a little deep ball with Coates

I think that will even out in the long run..........

Don't forget we get Bell back as a pass catcher, which we didn't have for most of last season. The guy can catch 80 balls! Bell is the closest thing to Marshall Faulk since.......................Marshall Faulk.
 
Is it written in stone yet that he'll miss all season? I know that was what was handed down originally but is he going to appeal?
 
Like Slashsteel says...Ladarius Green will be there as well.
AB, Wheaton, Green, Coates and Bell....not too shabby.

Damnit POP. I don't want to hear about coaches raving on a guy. Last time I heard the raving, it was about how great Mclendon was gonna be!

Yes Bell as a pass catcher...... if he stays healthy good things this year.

I agree that we will be fine but am wondering if Moss ever served a 1yr SUSPENTION related to drugs???

Where have you heard or read this? Cause I read everything and have never read or heard this
 
Lets not kid ourselves... With Lev. Bell and A. Brown in the lineup, (Wheaton, Coates, Green) are non-factors. Honestly, I can see Green getting frustrated for lack of receiving attempts. Our offense is not super diversified when Bell and Brown are consistently getting all the reps. I'm not concerned about Wheaton, Coates, or Green stepping up more than I'm concerned about the health of Bell and Brown both coming off their injuries. For as much as they receive the ball, they are that much more increased risk for re-injury.
 
I would say his stat line increases marginally. Maybe 800 yard and 6 TD's. I think Coates ends up with 400-500 yards and then Green ends up having a nice 750+ yard season and the surprise guy is Jesse James who I think ends up with 400 and something like 6+ TDs. I feel in the red zone we will deploy a lot of two TE sets while in the I formation giving Ben the option to run if the defense looks to be in more of a cover formation or to pass if it looks like the defense will be looking to stop the run. Imagine having 6-6 Green with his 34 1/2" arms then 6-7 Jesse James and his 33" arms both playing power forward in the end zone. All Ben has to do is lob it high and let them come down with it.

It's from a Steeler reporter the mods do not want to be named here. Coates he says drops too many passes in practice.

Ford, last year he had:

79 targets. 44 catches, 749 yards, ( 17.0 per catch ) 5 TD's

If I had to guess, a healthy Wheaton gets more than 800 yards. I'd guess 850-1,000.
