So much easier to sign players since their slots are predetermined. No reason to have an agent for your rookie contract. Do it yourself and keep the extra 10%.
they better have given him a 4th round value contract, as every scout had him as a 4th rounder except the Steelers...
This is the first I have heard of this anywhere. Is that actually true? If so, my next question would be, why does every post draft write up I've read have a highly positive review about the pick? Probably more so than any other Steeler selection this year. I've never seen a negative article about the Davis selection thus far.
I was teasing Coach who said in another thread he was overdrafted by two rounds
Still have to negotiate language based on offsets and payment schedules for the signing bonus, etc. Most of these guys need an agent anyways so they can get moneys advanced to them after declaring for the draft.

WEAKNESSES At times, was disastrous in man coverage. Dinged for 614 yards receiving against him. Slow, upright backpedal and clunky when turning to run. Seemed to be too big and lacking in foot quickness needed to play cornerback. Flagged for four pass interferences, a late hit and a personal foul this year. Charged with ten touchdowns allowed over last two seasons. Missed tackle numbers are troubling with 40 over last three years. Allows too much separation and can’t click and close on throws.
Ahhhh, there have been tons said about how lost he gets in coverage, and how clumsy he is when going from backpedaling to turning his hips to run. And he has tons of missed tackles. I feel they fell in love with his speed and build and think they can "coach him up" for the other stuff, but, in my experience, you can't coach instincts.
Getting torched in coverage and missing tackles are not things you want from your safety.

Of course his faults have been well documented. My comment was in reference to the statement that we drafted him 2 Rounds earlier than he was slated to go. That is what I was questioning, not that he has negatives associated with him. If he had no knocks on him, he would be a high 1st Rounder instead of a low 2nd Rounder.
Damn this site can get boring in the off-season.

That analysis is in Davis playing CB, its been discussed at nauseam that he was drafted to play S, not CB so those Weaknesses are very misleading, don't know why you bring them up if its not to **** on the rookie
BOTTOM LINE Miscast this season as an outside cornerback, Davis battled through adversity and bounced back with ball production, tackles and forced fumbles. Davis has the ability to cover, but his strengths would best be utilized at safety where he has fewer man responsibilities and can be deployed near the line of scrimmage a little more often. Davis is an eventual starter at safety and a big backup at cornerback.
That is good news.
The earlier signed the better.
It is all so cookie cutter now, I think it makes signings more straight forward as there isn't much room to negotiate either way.
The article said his dad was a Steeler fan. I hope they didn't put TOO MUCH stock into that aspect. Remember the Mike Adams mistake.
Bull ****.
From the same page.............
Their comments came as they KNEW he was going to play safety.
They were making their analysis KNOWING he would play safety. He can't cover to save his life, and missed 40 tackles!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

well you are giving me the reason, he was miscast as a CB last season and that's why he struggled. They even said those weaknesses were from him playing CB and wouldn't have the same problem at S where he would become an eventual starter.
I think you are not reading what you are posting, check again the Weaknesses, they say literally:
you see? those fails come from playing CB, so Bottom line
reading isn't Pops strong suit
you know I don't mind pointing strengths and weaknesses...
What I do mind is posters not being able to comprehend articles or even posters when they point out that something isn't clearly the case.
Then three threads later they are still harking on the same ol bullshit.
Read then comprehend.....
Looks and covers like a safety, showing a high back pedal and choppy turning motion which allows receivers relatively easy separation. A better hitter than cover man and seems to know it, opting to try to knock the ball out of the hands of receivers as they catch it rather than eliminate the catch with his ability to remain between the ball and quarterback. Too often loses track of his receiver, sneaking peeks back at the quarterback. Struggles with double-moves, lacking ideal balance and recovery speed.
Offers intriguing traits but may prove a project regardless of which position he's ultimately asked to play in the NFL.
IN OUR VIEW: Another cornerback/safety hybrid, Davis boasts the size, length and muscular build that NFL scouts covet in the secondary. He is an aggressive run defender with the tackling skills and power to dislodge the football, ranking second in the FBS last season with five forced fumbles. Davis, who was listed as a safety at the Senior Bowl, has some 'tweener traits as an athlete, so his performance in pre-draft drills will give teams a better idea of his best position in the NFL.

He signed a 4-year deal. Wasn't a 5 year deal makeable? Yes, I think he was over drafted by a round. A workout wonder type, or if you prefer an Al Davis type of pick. The flim in coverage is pertty bad.
