So its wrong to hope? I just want the team to do well. Teams over pay in free agency, I can see a number of teams overpaying JJ. Plus his status as a 1st round pick will play into the comp equation as well.
No one overpaid Worilds so he quit.

If memory serves they didn't make him an offer, rather they were waiting to see what other teams offered and if they'd want to match.Any Idea as to what the STEELERS offer was???? I know he was overpaid with the franchise tag pay which I thought the team was going to renegotiate, but obviously not to Worilds liking. AS for Uncle Jarvis, if he gets any kind of a year this season, HE WILL GET OVERPAID and I just hope it's not by the STEELERS. !!!!!
Jarvis will start the year. No need to let him go.
I disagree I think he plays with fire and the problem is lack of athletic ability.I hope they give everybody and anybody a fair chance to out play Jarvis. He just goes through the motions. He doesn't play with fire in his belly. We need someone in that spot with some "fight" inside them.
what does that say about the SEC if he was DPOY?
Exactly. I do think the Steelers would have re-signed him at their price but being that no one else made Worilds an offer, their price was going to be pretty low, like vet minimum. One good half-season in four years does not get someone a gazillion dollar contract now that Al Davis is dead.I think you are right. THEN no one made an offer of any significance, Worilds retired. He sat back and was hoping fore another franchise tag......... I am so glad the STEELERS didn't bite.!!!!

I disagree with this. I think it was obvious to everyone involved during his FA period that he would just as soon quit as play football regardless of the $$. Therefore, there were no offers.
If anyone threw down a multi-year deal with a big signing bonus, he would have jumped at it. But no one was dumb enough to do it.

And you know this how? He could of got millions to stay. Some of you act like even regular contracts are chump change.
He didn't retire when the season ended. He retired a week or so into the FA period when no big offers came in.

Because I watch and read the news and pay close attention to the experts www.steelernation.com.In any event, how do you know he didn't get any offers?
A while ago there was a Player X article in ESPN Magazine. These are articles written anonymously by pro athletes in different sports. The NFL guy said that while most players love the game, there are a number who really don't like it, don't like the pounding they take, but realize they are good athletes and it's way more money than they'd ever make doing anything else. They can't wait to have enough in the bank to retire then go do something else...or do nothing. I would put Worilds (and Mendenhall) in that category....for $4 million...for $10 million he's still a player. He didn't drag it out for months. He knew what he wanted out of life and it wasn't football.
Jarvis is a late round talent taken in the first round. Every coaching talent evaluation team misses sometime, this guy was a big miss. He had good production in college and it seems the steelers want to give him every chance to be the player he was in college. I suspect that was as good as he could get, and he matured early in talent level. Many of the other kids he played in college continued to develop and became good nfl players as well as good college players. It is likely in my opinion that were he to face those same players that went on in the ranks of the nfl that he would not be as dominant now as he was then.
He also had injuries to deal with and that could have been a set back as well. Some players seem to recover to a point after injuries but never get back to being as good as they were prior to being hurt. I think jarvis is just not going to pan out. I suspect Chick maybe better and I think we likely have 3 more linebackers on the team now that will end up being superior to jarvis rather quickly.
