Anyone left worth even considering? Remember, we have a legit shot at a ring, so now is not the time to leave any stone unturned.

I can't say many of them interest me very much.

Adrian Foster? No way. He ripped his Achilles last year and has been steadily injured almost every year since he broke out. Even if we had a big hole at RB, I still wouldn't touch him. No way. I'd take an undrafted rookie before this guy.

Greg Hardy? No way in hell. Not a fit PLUS he is a huge a hole.

Anquan Boldin? No way. Too old, not even needed. Plus, a former Raven who everyone probably still hates.

OLB Mike Neal? I would sign him and drop Jones in a New York minute. He will never be a star but he is solid, with 4 sacks last season. Adding him and bouncing Jarvis would upgrade our D instantly.
But the Steelers are scared to make bold moves like this. Plus, they aren't ready to admit that JJ was a terrible pick.

Maybe they don't want to admit Jarvis Jones was a bad pick, but not picking up his option for next year was a good start.

Being that they did that, if a player is there they can afford who would improve things at that position, I think they would do it. But the guy would have to really be an improvement. Don't know if Neal is.

Not picking up that option was a no brainer and if they did so, I would be red-faced angry. Neal isn't a world beater, which is why he is still out there, I get that. But he is an upgrade over that waste JJ. Not by a lot, but by some.

JJ, 29 tackles and 2 sacks.

Neal, 4 sacks, 24 tackles in more of a part time role, I think. Neal has 19 career sacks. JJ has a whopping 5 career sacks.

I like how you point out that Neal's stats were in a part time role, but don't make that same statement for Jones. Neal is not an upgrade for Jones, 2 sacks isn't enough to bring someone completely new to the system when Jones has been in the system his entire three years thus far. I'll take Jones all day in that scenario.

First off, if they would have picked up the option, it doesn't mean they had to pay him anything. They could still cut him before next year. No need for you to be red-faced angry.

Some of you guys act like anybody will do. If you are going to advance the idea that they sign somebody, he should be significantly better than what they have. Let's be honest. Anybody left out there probably isn't, unless some guys shake loose post-draft.

JJ is in his last year a s a Steeler. I would imagine if he somehow made a jump into looking like a first round talent, which I highly doubt, they could tag him like Worilds a few years ago. Otherwise he is a free agent next season and they can move on.

if JJ has a season ending injury that money becomes guaranteed so yeah, it was a risk.

But I agree JJ will be probably have a bettter season than last year, he might get his playing level to an above average starter as he's in a contract year and will have extra incentive

Yeah Neal's part time role of 730 snaps certainly puts him at a disadvantage logging stats in comparing to the "starter" JJ who logged 454 snaps. Let's just scrap JJ for a guy with less tackles through significantly more play time and call it an "instant upgrade". PASS.

Good to see you're using facts to support your argument

19 sacks compared to 5....that is indeed an upgrade. Jones is flat out terrible. If he is our OLB, we won't win another ring.

19 sacks compared to 5. Try not to choke on that corn dog. Deez nutz.

You do realize Neal plays a very specific situational rush position where he attacks from DE, DT, and LB depending on alignment right?

The 2 players are deployed quite differently and thus the reason JJ has more tackles/snap and Neal more sacks/snap. Neal fit what GB did schematically but I think he'd be a LOLB in our system or more appropriately as a situational DE. I'm not against him as DL depth at vet min, but I don't think he'd even be considered for the ROLB spot.

WowZa, can't believe I'm pulling for Uncle Jarvis in this one. Considering the two choices, is an easy choice. AS stated you MUST replace with better talent and yes some of that better talent, just doesn't fit the scheme. Glad the STEELERS didn't offer the extention and yes if he has a break out year, the STEELERS will find the right way to keep him.

Salute the nation

Your team has four rings since 2001. PoP, just admit you're a Patsie. If so cool, no prob in my book. But you are always negative with everything the Steelers do
