Zach Mettenberger

I'd be happy to pick up the selfie king, but I'd rather draft someone with the 32nd pick in the 2017 draft

It would be nice to have a good back up. I like him better than Laundry Jones. Wouldn't mind working out a deal to get Glennon from TBY if possible and not too expensive.

Anyone over Landry. I like Mettenberger though. The guy was a trooper at LSU

I wouldn't mind seeing it happen. Brucie could be number 3, cut Landry and bring in Mettenberger.

Simple process:

1. Re-sign Ike Taylor for one of those "last game as a Steeler" contracts.
2. Contact Lebeau and offer him Taylor for Mettenberger.
3. Complete paperwork for deal.

If only life were that great. ^^^All for this. Any way possible to make it happen?

I'm also surprised that we haven't brought in Vernon Adams for a workout. I know we talked with him. Seattle chose not to sign him and went with Trevor Boykin.

Trade them Shamarko! Trade them Jarvis! Trade them a draft pick! Colbert, make it happen my man!

They have more QB's than they need, we need a QB to be at their same level of QB play. Shouldn't they just give him to us?

After this last draft I don't want us throw our 5th or 6th round picks away. If Shamarko is on his way out I would be cool going player for player but other than that I would see if he gets cut and if we could pick him up off the wire or not.

He is a solid player. If they were smart, they could have gotten a 3rd rounder for him last offseason.

Definitely explore the chance. Can't hurt as Laundry isn't the answer. I bet they are waiting fror him to get cut then make a play. Who knows though that maybe Laundry picked it up a notch this off season????

Salute the nation

He is a solid player. If they were smart, they could have gotten a 3rd rounder for him last offseason.

If he's that good maybe they are smart and don't want to give him up. Most teams carry 3 QB's and Cassell sure isn't anything special.

Titans waived QB Zach Mettenberger.

Tennessee almost certainly attempted to trade the 2014 sixth-rounder during the draft, but they understandably found no takers. Despite the Titans losing all six of his rookie starts, Mettenberger flashed big-play ability and looked like he could develop into a quality backup. He was disastrous in four starts last season, however, and his fate was all but sealed when Tennessee brought in veteran backup Matt Cassel this offseason. Mettenberger will certainly get another look somewhere, but his lack of pocket awareness and inability to evade pressure look like fatal flaws.

Put him on a team with good players and a solid OLine and he is better than our backups.

Yeah, if the Steelers don't put in a claim on him they need some help. Bruce signed a 1 year vet min with 80k in bonus. It's not like we are married to him. Landry Jones is so bad a one footed or left armed Roethlisberger was a better option last year. I just don't see how Mettenberger wouldn't walk away with the backup spot vs those two and maybe give us a long term solution behind Ben.

Please, please, please....

QB Zach Mettenberger Released, Could Steelers Be Interested?
http://www.Invalid Link - Check SN ...ch-mettenberger-released-steelers-interested/

Ok, I know I just headlined the most played out phrase of this long offseason. Of course the Pittsburgh Steelers could have interest. They have some level of interest in almost everyone.

But the idea of Zach Mettenberger has some bite to it. Not just bark.

Prior to the 2014 draft, Chris Bradford of the Beaver County Times reported that one source said the Steelers had a high level of interest in Mettenberger. Obviously, he wasn’t drafted here, selected by the Tennessee Titans in the 6th round.

In two years with the Titans, Mettenberger lost all ten starts he’s made. His numbers were way down last season in four games of action, throwing seven interceptions to just four touchdowns. His yards per attempt was an abysmal 5.6.

But, the Titans offense was poor with few weapons while Mettenberger was in a system designed for the mobile Marcus Mariota, not the very-much-statue Mettenberger.

The Steelers will keep three, and only three, quarterbacks on this roster, but the free-for-all competition between Bruce Gradkowski, Landry Jones, and Mettenberger would draw the best out of everyone. Cutting any three of those players, whoever the #4 and de facto loser is, wouldn’t be an issue financially or effect any long-term plans. It’s a sink or swim season for Jones, no longer on scholarship over his draft pick.

The current #4 QB on the roster is Dustin Vaughan, a futures’ contract. At the least, having Mettenberger instead would make for a stronger group.

With his release, he’ll revert to waivers and eligible to be claimed by any team. That means taking on the rest of his rookie contract, a super cheap $600K base salary for the next two seasons. You’re paying pennies if he becomes the #2 QB. We should know by tomorrow or Wednesday if he’s been claimed.

It would be nuts to not claim him. I knew they liked him coming out of college.

This could be the most important signing of this offseason and could be the one Ben turns the team over to in the next 4-5 years. The kid has a lot of upside.

we are too down on a waiver scale , i see other teams put a claim on him , if we really wanted him we should have tarded a conditional seventh.
