2016 Pirates thread

Eh it's still early in the season. Give it til July. Pirates will be fine. Pitching hasnt been too good lately though

Yep, that Neil Walker for Jon Niese trade sure has worked out well.....for the Mets

I STILL cannot believe that they made that move. Niese has looked like dog **** and thag move was a reminder that these are still the same ol' penny-pinching buccos.

Niese looked like dog **** when he played for the Mets. Why they went after him is puzzling. Just wait until July and August. He get's worse as the season progresses.

Taillon threw 7 more shutout innings for Indy. Only has 3 walks in 5 starts. Without any setbacks, you can pencil him to be in
Pirates rotation in June.

Yep :(

Long way to go folks. Trades and injuries happen. Hot and cold streaks for all teams will come and go. They just gotta keep giving it their all and keep the bonehead mistakes and errors to a minimum.

Thankful we are still talking baseball in early May. For most of the past 23 years the Pirates would be out of it and we'd be on to discussing NASCAR, golf or soccer by now.

The acquisition of Neise was partly attributable to arrogance on the Pirates' part.

After fixing pitchers like Liriano, Volquez and Happ, the Pirates blindly assumed that Searage could do the same with Neise.

It hasn't worked out, but the whole controversy surrounding the trade will soon be rendered moot with the way Harrison is performing and with Taillon and Glasnow ready to enter the rotation this summer.

I think this is going to be another 90+ win team. They can hit, and the pitching will ultimately be good enough to complement that, IMO.

The problem is that it seems like they're in the same the division with the best team in baseball for the second straight year -the Cardinals last year and now the Cubs.

With that being said, the Cubs are not going to sustain THIS pace all season. They'll take a step back at some point.

The Pirates did not put themselves in a huge whole in April like they have in prior years. That will give them a chance to catch up in the division.

Cubs are pretty stacked. They will be hard to catch. Cole needs to come around and they need to add another good arm. The bull pen is still shaky, but I expect that to get corrected. I don't know about the offense. Wish we had a good power hitter.

They're 6th in MLB in runs scored, with Kang just returning and McCutchen yet to hit to his ability.

They may not have that big 35+ HR guy, but it isn't as important as it was 15-20 years ago in the middle of the steroid era.

They have a lot of guys who can hit for average and run with decent power.

Yep!

Still early. Pirates mistakes are fixable mistakes. Not panic mode. Not in a tough situation either

They replaced Happ and Burnett with Niese and Vogelsong. Two mistakes that won't go away. Niese has now given up more gopher balls than Neil Walker has hit. Great move there.

The Cubs definitely have our number at this point. They might actually win the Series if they can keep this up. I guess they are due.

The Cubs soundly beat us in the play in game last year. We knew they would be better this year. We did NOTHING in off season to get better. I think we got worse.

Pitching will be the Pirates achilles heel. If you're a professional ball club. It should be easy to see those mistakes

I don't get why they signed Niese. But life.....*sigh*

I do not know what you suggest they should have done, given that Taillon and Glasnow will be arriving soon.

Even if they wanted, they could not outbid anyone for Greinke, Price or Kashmir. Even Happ got a ton of money for a guy who had only two good months in three years.

The bigger issue for me right now is that neither Cole nor Liriano are pitching up to expectations. Not even remotely so at this point.
