Jarvis decision today?

Today is the deadline for the 8.369 million 5th year option on him. No way is he worth that kind of cash.

The Pittsburgh Steelers now have one week to decide whether or not to pick up the fifth-year option on outside linebacker Jarvis Jones and as expected, general manager Kevin Colbert refused to say Monday during the team’s annual pre-draft conference which way the organization is leaning when it comes to their former first-round draft pick.
 
Of course you pick up the option; according to Tomlin, Jones play was "solid" last year.

And by "solid" he means 29 tackles and 2 sacks for a starting OLB in Pgh.

How is that not worth $8.36 mill?

They blow that cash on a player that bad, and we don't deserve to contend for another ring. And that is the truth.
 
I seen some say it was May 3rd they had to make a decision. Then some were May 2nd. No news yet today on my end.
 
Guys, how is this news. We've seen him on the field. He's not getting paid. PERIOD. If he resigns, it's going to be for a low amount 3-4M/yr. Harrison coming back kind of hurts his stock a bit this year as well.
 
We haven't heard by now so maybe they are working out a cheaper extension #

Yet they payed Max Starks 14 mil for a season..
 
If they "pick it up" does that guarantee the pay. What if he is cut / injured? I thought I'd heard they could sign the pick up option, but it was not guaranteed.

His improvement last season might be enough to grant him a fifth season in Pittsburgh, something that general manager Kevin Colbert and company must decide on today.

Was gonna post what ZACKB just did. Various reporters said deadline is 4 EST. Gonna guess they pick up the option because we have no one behind him to replace him. That gives us next year's draft and the 18' draft to find a new starting ROLB.
 
They are caught between a rock and a hard place. They don't have a viable option to take his spot. And he isn't worth 8 million. So it is give him a modest extension and then he is on your payroll for longer or overpay him by I'm thinking around 7 million dollars. I really can't believe they let it come to this with Jarvis Jones. They could have grabbed a journeyman type player for half to a third of that for three years and he would do as much as uncle Jarvis. Constant pressure my ***. Watched all but maybe 30-40 snaps last year. He was better, but constant pressure. Who wrote that, his uncle or his agent.

1.) Starks was better at his job than JJ is at is, by a ton.

2.) Having garbage at LT will get our franchise QB killed, not an option.

You spend $14 mill to save your $100 mill QB.

But to make a move as you suggest, would be admitting that he was a bad draft pick, and this team is ultra slow to ever admit a mistake with high draft picks. I mean, they think they are "the smartest guys in the room" don't forget.
 
They have little options right now so they will pick it up. It only costs them if he gets injured. They can still cut him if he sucks this year and it does nothing to their cap hit next year.

Based on their comments, the coaches don't seem to be nearly as down on Jarvis as the fans are. The truth is probably halfway between how good they think he is, and how bad we think he is.

Jarvis just runs circles around ball carriers. Then does the Ray Ray pile on tackle to look useful. Uncle Jarvis should look into starting his own gas station convenient store and call them "Circle J" cause all he does is run circles that has my mind running in circles right now

No, picking it up doesn't guarantee the pay, UNLESS he sustains a serious season/multi-season injury. We can cut him at anytime before and up to the new league year in 2017. But, if we do exercise the option and end up cutting him then we would not receive any compensation in the draft.

Wouldn't any draft compensation be based upon his 2nd contract? If he sucks, what is the best the comp would be for the ****** contract he would get.

Picking up the option seems like a no-lose situation, doesn't it?
