Steelers select Sean Davis DB - Maryland

Davis is more of a round there pick. I see a trend. The Steelers are an abandoning their BPA and reaching a little for needs, while at the same timing ignoring an offers to trade down in round one. But the natives are happy.

How is it "reaching" when you're picking someone in the bottom quarter in a round and you choose someone who fits your needs that was likely to be picked in the top quarter of the next round? Is it always better to get BPA even if he's in a position you have no need for?

My guess is that they "run to the podium" when they feel a severe dropoff exists at a position after the guy left on the board goes. I kind of see it with Burns, even though there were guys i wanted more than him they were all gone... and frankly everyone was expecting the top tier DL run to be early and the higher end CBs to linger longer... and that didnt really happen.... Im certainly not upset with any of these picks.... but davis feels a bit much like the safeties we grabbed mid round before... Thomas, Smith, Shields, not really coverage guys, just physical specimens that, in these cases, never were able to make the leap. I hope he ends up a chris hope... maybe at worse a mundy, but save for troy our track record for grabbing safeties isnt exactly stellar the past 20 years

I think the steelers did well over all..I personally think we should have taken Jack in the first round, but not sure where we would have put him. I do think he will come back from the injury fine. The steelers were kind of stuck. If burns was their #1 cb then they did great. In my opinion it is not a reach if you really want a guy and believe in him. I highly doubt he would have made it to us in round 2 so why not just pick him. People wanted billings in rnd 1 and he has yet to be picked..Most experts seem to love the Davis pick and say he would have been rated much higher, but was not playing his natural position last year (cb vs safety). The DL pick was a great pick by it seems everyone's standards. So far so good I think

I predict Sham not so wow will not make the final 53.

Another RAW PROJET. I guess Tolbert does not have the ability to learn. I LOATH athletes who lack instincts to play the game. Scott Shields anyone??? One of the 1st things they said when he was drafted was..."He is raw.....REALLY raw."

No instincts...that is a death nail.

It doesn't matter how fast or strong you are if you don't know when to run where. Steelers take another "project." Wonderful. Way to go.

Yup, Sean Davis compiled over 300 tackles, 5 picks and 7 forced fumbles because he has no instincts whatsoever, he has no idea 'when to run where.'

Does this mean we're finished with Shamarko?

Yea, finished with one Sharko and drafted another. This guy is also known for hitting but sucking in coverage. Great plan, fellas. Way to have no ability to learn as you go. Pathetic.

this guy was made to play CB instead of his natural position of S.

Yea, you were saying? This guy is another head case who likes to throw his body around but blows goats in pass coverage. You can just feel 30 yard gains all over the field with this guy in there.

At times, was disastrous in man coverage. Dinged for 614 yards receiving against him. Slow, upright backpedal and clunky when turning to run. Seemed to be too big and lacking in foot quickness needed to play cornerback. Flagged for four pass interferences, a late hit and a personal foul this year. Charged with ten touchdowns allowed over last two seasons. Missed tackle numbers are troubling with 40 over last three years. Allows too much separation and can’t click and close on throws.

This guy is a worst pick than Mr. Burns.

Yea, and he stunk in coverage playing S as well. He flies around the field, often missing tackles and blowing coverage.

I hope I'm wrong, but he looks like a fast guy, who likes to hit, but is a liability in coverage. Another failed S pick, yet again.

why you say Davis has no coverage ability? he even played CB for a whole season. The guy has great numbers, size (which shamarko and smith lacked) and also has experience in two areas of need. Having a S that can play in nickel and dime as the 3rd S or 4th CB gives an advantage over a limited to SS only player (see Cravens, Cash, etc, etc)

The song for that highlight video sucks as bad as just about any song I've ever heard. Couldn't even watch it.

It was particularly bad. And, hate to say it, but his "highlight reel" didn't seem to have many highlights.

Yea, he PLAYED CB but he got scorched all season. But I do agree having a S who can play in the nickle is a benefit, I am just not sure this is a guy who will do well at it.
