I'm watching the Baylor / North Carolina bowl game and I'm watching Billings whenever he's in there and so far he's done absolutely nothing. He's off his feet a lot, single blocked a lot (they double teamed him on the first drive or two but not after that) and offers nothing as a pass rusher - was generally not on the field in obvious passing situations. Even on the two short yardage situations so far he's been a non-factor.

He looks out of position a lot too - gambling or just scheme related i don't know. I know this is just one game but if I was watching this after we'd spent a first rounder on him I'd be upset.

In fact I'm coming away from this game liking the centre, Crowley.

Any fans out there want to tell me why I'm wrong?

It's funny you bring that up. I few years ago, I focused on Jarvis Jones in his bowl game, because I read he was the prototype 3-4 OLB. He didn't impress me one bit. I was more impressed with their other LB who went to the Rams, I think, Ogeltree.

I have been hoping against hope that my feeling about Jones was wrong, but so far, it seems I was right.

Ah, well. Maybe if the Steelers woulda waited around to make the pick, draw out the drama a little, make me think they had these great ******' trade possibilities, I'd feel better about it.

Well his production so far has been 1 pressure (obvious OL miscommunication as he was unblocked) and he was in on one tackle. This is mid 4th quarter.

Good luck to the guy but I hope we don't take him high based on what I've seen in this game.

Hey Slaine, my daughter goes to Baylor was in the Baylor Line so I was forced to watch all of their games. I really like Billings as a player. He is an "effort" kid and always is trying hard BUT in reality he isn't a guy who will get much better than he is now. I don't think we need to draft a hybrid NT who will neither be able to draw double teams consistently nor be a spell player for Heyward/Tuitt due to his lack of length and speed.

I think we can get a 25-30% playing time player with Hassan Ridgeway who will be available later AND is has some huge upside if he can get his conditioning under control to help with nagging injuries and get more power. He is very disruptive in spurts which is EXACTLY what we will ask a 25% player to be even with his conditioning.

The team IMO is looking for more of a Geno Adkins, Chris Hoke type of hybrid NT who can get some pressures. They looked at another 3-tech type in Mike Martin recently. Ridgeway is that type of player but with proper nutrition and conditioning could be a very disruptive DT/NT in either front we choose to run.

Thanks keslerclan - great to hear from someone that's seen the games.

We'll see where he goes but I'm hoping we don't spend a 2nd on him.

Slaine looks like you're onto something seeing how far Billings has slid...

I never got the Billings hype. I had him as a second or third round grade. He spends too much time on the ground, not very stout, can't shed. He's a high effort and motor guy but anyone who knows anything about football didn't want him in the first.

Well I think we got a better NT in Hargrave anyway. As for Billings he's a Bungle now.

I think 2 down linemen are just not going in the top 3 rounds often anymore... like fullbacks they are dinosaurs with little value to teams right now. Im not sure it was ultimately anything he did, just plays a position teams arent jumping on early anymore

Billings

Obviously we all liked him. Do we know if the FO planned to take him in rd 4? I'm guessing they were happy with Hargrave and wanted to take the OT.

I don't think he was a target at all. If we take Hargraves in the 3rd, Billings is probably off of our board at that point.
