One last mock the mock...7 rounder

1. WJ3 CB Happy to have him since Billings is out of the equation.
2. Nassib DE (Would have gone Hargrave, but Adolphus was available in the 3rd)
3. Adolphus Washington DT
4. Jayron Kearse S We passed on the freak, I'm not passing on his son in the 4th.

No idea who to take late, but I'd like an OLB, RB, and WR

1- CB William Jackson III
2- DT Javon Hargrave
3- OLB Shilique Calhoun
4- SS Justin Simmons
6- WR Mike Thomas
7- CB Kalan Reed
7- OT Halapoulivaati Vaitai

I like this, but I find it hard to believe that Calhoun lasts to rd 3.

Yes this mock is pretty wack, as Calhoun won't be around in the third and Simmons for sure won't be around in the 4th. I predict both will go earlier than that. Calhoun shouldn't last till our 2nd round pick and Simmons maybe makes it into the third.

Jeavon Kearse has a draft eligible kid? Boy he got started in the daddy business pretty young.

still, you gotta mock the mock

FINAL MOCK

1. CB Jackson III
2. OLB/DE Nassib
3. S Simmons
4. NT Ridgeway

5. Pick spent by acquiring Boykin then hardly playing him.
6. Pick spent on acquiring Scobee, which I was against.

6B. QB Hogan
7A. P Kasser
7B RB B. Williams

This draft would give us the following:

A legit taller corner with speed, cover skills and ball skills. It's been a while since we had a corner like this.

The most productive sack man forced fumble man and tackles for losses in college with rare character and effort. See Ya Jarvis Jones, and plug him into our 4 and fronts, which we play the majority of the time.

A very productive safety with good workout numbers. He would be a steal in round three

A thick anchor NT/DT. A need since McLendon left.

A better back p QB. Hogan might go earlier, so he would be a steal here

An elite punter, and huge upgrade over Berry

An extra running back, needed as Bell has had two injuries to the same knee and Williams isn't signed long term.

I doubt he lasts until round three, but there is a chance. Calhoun is a top 40-60 type of player. Joey Porter and Jason Gildon went in round three. So did Vrabel.

I think Calhoun will make it to our rd 2 pick, and we should jump to grab him if cb is addressed in rd 1.

1. WJIII
2. Calhoun
3. Some safety

I fully expect us to decline Jarvis's option of we go OLB in rd 1 (Dodd/Spence) or 2. (Calhoun). Imagine having a legit #1 or #2(WJIII) corner, plus Calhoun, who can rush the passer. I assume we can get a quality safety in rd 3. Would be f'n awesome.

That is why when I saw him available to us in round 3 in this mock the mock, I was jumping all over it. If he is there in the third, I can't see what possible reason there would be to pass on him.

Jayron is his nephew, not his son...
Ok, never heard of the kid. Cope said it was his son. I looked Kearse is 39. He actually easily could have a draft eligible kid. Lost track of time and would have expected more like 36 or 37.

Indeed.

25 William Jackson III - CB, Houston
58. Austin Johnson, DT, Penn State
89. Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State
123. Justin Simmons, S, Boston College
220. Pearce Slater, OT, San Diego State
229. Kalan Reed, CB, Southern Miss
246. Jalin Marshall, WR, Ohio State

1 Mackensie Alexander, CB, Clemson - solid cover corner
2 Javon Hargrave, DT, South Carolina State
3 Shilique Calhoun, DE, Michigan State
4 Justin Simmons, S, Boston College
6 whoever fell that would bring solid value

I think Calhoun will make it to our rd 2 pick...
I'm afraid that won't be the case. Our best bet to get Calhoun (if the Steelers even like the kid) would be to move down a bit presuming WJIII/Billings is gone and take him early-mid 2nd round.

Yeah, that's kind of how I hope the whole draft plays out... lol.

True, thanks for the correction Tibs!

He's still a freak as a 6'5" 220lb safety!

His tape is real bad though, he doesn't play to that size. He's a very overrated project, not really close to Javon Kearse other than the freaky size and athleticism for his position.

I don't think Jackson will last until No. 25 - although on that mock "war room" Round 1 on NFL
Network last night, he didn't get picked.

1. WJIII CB
2. Calhoun DE
3. Washington DT
4. Simmons S

This is my ideal scenario. Best DB in 1, Calhoun in 2. I don't think he'll make it to us though. Seen his tape, and while he can get eaten up on power moves his first step is INSANE. Tackle after tackle left standing in their stance while he's already a step and a half in the backfield.

Let's be honest: A year ago, how many of us knew much of anything about these guys?

But that's how it works. Every year, you get a fresh crop to evaluate. You're not paying attention to players for the 2017 draft right now are you?

And you gotta admit, it's fun. Watching the draft is almost like watching a game, waiting to see if you'll win or lose.

Gawd I love football.
