Josh Norman a UFA

After seeing all the news that has come out and the firing of his agent upon his release, it just looks as if the guy is a bad egg and Carolina cut ties to just get him out of the building for good. We don't need any, or anymore, flawed characters in the locker room. Let him get his money elsewhere

Yet the reports are that Carolina offer to him was $11 mill a season. Why franchise him to begin with ...then offer him a large contract if you can't wait to get him out your building?

I don't think it was a situation where they wanted him gone because he couldn't play. He proved his play ability last year, but they have Cam and Luke Kuechly to retain in the coming years. It sounds as if Norman was dead set on 14-16 mil a yr and wasn't going to budge. I think ownwership wanted him gone. Othwise why not keep him around until the draft? If they would have held on to him and used him as a trade lure in the draft they could have gotten a 3rd for him. Same as they'll get if he gets a big contract this year, except that by letting walk they dont get the compensation until 2017. Its only a week away. They are a contender. You could get that pick this year and get more picks while your still a viable SB favorite.
Something about how and when this happened stinks of of something rotten. Carolina or Norman? IDK, but its probably to expensive to find out.

Caroline probably decided that they'd rather use that 14 million to sign 3 key interior defenders. I don't believe he could have been traded since he was not under contract.

According to a tweet from Jason La Caforna the Steelers will not pursue Norman. Ends that.
I didn't need LaCanfora to tell me that. I have no idea where that story could even get legs. Sure they could move some cash around and maybe make it work for a year. The still gotta pay AB this year. He ain't going into a final year of his contract. Bell is coming up too. Good luck who ever hatched that idea.

Well for one thing he wasn't signed. You can't trade a player for a 3rd pick if he isn't even on your roster.

I'd say Josh Norman had a real good year last year. But if you take away his fight with OBJ and Carolina's team success are you gonna tell me half of us would even know who the hell this guy is.

Even if he is under a franchise tag? Which he was, all they would have to have done was get him to sign the tender. Which I understand he did. So, the answer is yes. They could trade him under the tag. NE did that very thing with Cassell to KC. So why not get something for him THIS year? Kindness of Carolina's heart? Doubt that .

he didn't sign the tag, ergo, the problem

If not they could have got that done before the draft. Still doesn't wash with me. There was something else there.

He is visiting with the Skins, the perfect place for him. They will pay him King's ransom and he won't really produce all that much, per normal of Skins type of mega-signing.

Nope....If he signed it they would not of been able to have pulled it off of the table.

How about they tried to sign him to a long term contract but were not able to come to an agreement and decided to move on. A simple answer I know.

Hes no Sean Taylor'esque

had a good year, and he'l mail it in after he gets paid.

Per Michael Lombardi
Front Office View | NFL Network
"The franchise tag allows teams to protect their investment -- which is a significant value. Even if a team does not particularly want to keep a player, or feels a long-term deal is hopeless, it can tag the player and put him on the trading block, knowing the value of the player is greater than the compensatory third-round pick the team could receive for losing a high-caliber player to free agency."

This type of move is more common than not. They cut bait and let an additional 3rd round pick this year go with it. They'll recoup it next year, but they are coming off a SB season. Hmmmmm. Anyway, he won't be a Steeler and I've wasted too much time on a guy who most likely won't even be a topic after he signs, gets "paid", and then disappears a la Larry Brown.

5-years, $75 million with $50 million guaranteed. Insane.

Washington has 4 games a season vs Dez Bryant and OBJ. I feel like this is a great move for them. His production last year was crazy and he might be the best corner in the league. Given that the salary cap will continue to increase at a fairly large amount, this is a great deal for Washington.

Yup. That's over....6 more days until the draft and we'll have some fresh **** to cheer, debate, and ***** about.

Redskins sign Norman to five-year, $75M deal

Winners and losers time!

Going to be something like 5 years and 80 million, or thereabouts. .

I think Norman is about to come crashing back down to earth. 16+ million? He ain't Regis or a QB so 10+ million is tops.

Thanks for playing
