Report: Browns “initiating calls,” shopping No. 2 pick

The No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft was traded last week, and now the No. 2 pick is on the auction block as well.

NFL Network’s Jeff Darlington reported Tuesday that Browns executive vice president of football operations Sashi Brown has “initiated calls” to gauge interest in the No. 2 pick. Darlington said that “nothing is imminent,” but it’s clear that the Browns are shopping the pick and keeping their options open.

The Rams aren’t saying which player they’ll select at No. 1 and will meet with quarterbacks Carson Wentz and Jared Goff in Los Angeles this week. The Rams are picking one of those two, and if they pick the one the Browns thought they’d get when the Titans owned the top pick, a trade down makes sense.

The Browns open the extra minicamp they get because they have a new head coach on Tuesday. Robert Griffin III is the team’s starting quarterback until further notice.

For reasons beyond the Browns giving Griffin a chance to revive his career, the team might have been looking at positions besides quarterback and/or a trade down even before the Rams-Titans swap. The Browns have a new coach and a new front office again, and adding picks via a trade down could make sense because the roster has significant holes.

As for which teams might be anxious to take Brown’s calls, the Eagles have done too much homework on the quarterback class to not have at least some level of interest, while the Cowboys worked out Goff last weekend. A significant roadblock to a potential Browns-Eagles deal would be that the Eagles don’t have a second-round pick.

I said if would take a team like the Browns to **** up this draft and not get Carson Wentz and here they've gone and done it.

Stupid is as stupid does....

Looks like if the Rams take the QB the Turds want, they'll trade out.
Eagles are being bandied on ESPN for making this trade, along with a third team. I saw it while at the gym, but didnt see the third team being rumored. Looked to be lots of picks and players, including Justin Gilbert.

If I was the Browns, I would be trying to TRADE UP with the Rams, not down.

I would be arguing with the Rams that Goff vs. Wentz doesn't matter to them and Goff might actually be a better fit in L.A. and more mature and ready for the spotlight than the small-school Wentz.

But Wentz is better in cold, windy Cleveland and Goff would never work there (he would hate it anyhow - it's like a hellhole for California kids).

So you should be arguing like hell with the Rams to make that deal. You give them Gilbert, maybe a 4th rounder this year, a 2nd rounder next year and you flip flop 1st and 2nd overall picks.

Cleveland takes Wentz 1st. Rams get Goff 2nd. Win-win.

The culture was so jacked up, that almost any veteran is not wanted back. They need a ton of picks to try to reverse course on the hot mess that in the Browns.

Not only were they bad, but now they are getting rid of a lot of their better players, making them seem like a bare cupboard.

RG3 was considered a franchise type QB until that mess in DC went down. Neither Wentz nor Goff are rated as high as RG3 was, If I were CLE I'd consider dropping down for more picks, since they have such a colossal need for more players.

Where _don't_ they need help?

WR - giant need
OL - were bad to begin with and lost 2 of best players
RB - Duke might be decent, but hardly stacked
TE - one of only good players allowed to hit the road
QB - RG3 or bust at this point. Not all that solid right now
DL - need help
LBs - mostly garbage
DBs - lost best D, CBs have one decent player

Browns, for all intents and purposes, might as well be a brand new expansion team, for the 15th year since 1999. How pathetic.

At this point I can see the Browns going for quantity over quality but they'll manage to **** it up either way.

Not to defend the Browns.....But the immortal Carson Wentz is far from a sure thing.

Shopping the No. 2 pick is smart. Doesn't mean they'll deal it.

And how do you know they haven't done any of that?

The Rams didn't give up all those picks to get the #1 pick without knowing who the hell it is they want with that pick.

If the Browns are certain that player is Wentz and they have no interest in Goff or feel there is better value in moving back in the draft it makes sense to explore the option.

I'd give them our first, Jarvis Jones and Steel Vanguard.

cmonnnnnnnnnnnn man

they will be needing a S like Sham not so wow Thomas..throw him in and we will consider him a present........

The last time the stains traded down from a high pick it went really well. They've got this!

Goff or Wentz would instantly make the Clowns a better team. They just have no clue. Then again, they look to be rebuilding for the 20th time since they got the team back. What a complete bunch of loser owners they have had. No business or football smarts at all.
