Guys..thoughts on him? Do you really feel good with Big Dan?? I don't. I think it would be interesting to bring him in for a look see.

Free agent NT Terrance Knighton is visiting the Patriots on Monday.

This is Knighton's first reported visit. The Patriots were reportedly in on Nick Fairley, but he ended up signing with the Saints. Knighton does not get to the quarterback like Fairley, but he offers a big, run-stuffing body on the interior of the defensive line. Knighton was stout against the run in limited snaps with the Redskins last season.

I think they are waiting to see what the draft brings, and bring in some FAs as a result of what they feel that is still needed afterwards.

The Pats seem to be signing a LOT of guys, where are they getting all this cap space? And why do they keep getting primo comp picks?

Makes great logic to me. We don't need to sign every guy out there but do need to keep an eye on things. The one place i'm a little worried about is secondary help. More specificaly CB. We really need a ball fighting, in your face tough SOB, that's good.

The ******* cheatriotys.................keep stealing them or deflating them. Coarse 1/2 that will change now that the DEFLATOR" is no longer employed on their team......

It's by design. When big names are up for huge contracts, they ditch them and get draft picks, as was the situation with Jones this year. He is in his contract year, and they feel him/them out to see what it will take to re-sign them. The way Kraft and Belichick usually frame it, is "Does he want to be a Patriot?" That is code for, "Will he play for less than max market value?" If the answer is no, they ship them out, hence they don't get hit with as massive as deals. This way, they keep cap hits lower AND end up with a bunch of draft picks. They also did this with other big names throughout the years.

you get comp picks after your turds sign elsewhere, then **** the bed and get released. then you sign them back and get the comp pick the next season...and give your guy a bigger contract than what he previously had.

its the patriot way.

Not true. When did Richard Seymore or Vince Wilfork come back to the Pats? Wes Welker?

If we signed him we could use a draft pick elsewhere potentially. We don't have as many picks this year and need a myriad of positions to be filled.

I think big Dan can play the traditional 0 tech well enough. Look for a draft pick in the 1st four rounds that can compete with him plus rotate in with Cam and Tuitt on passing downs.

sounds complicated...lets hook up for beers and you can explain it to me...

Comp picks come from the loophole that if you give a guy a option year that you can decline, he isn't viewed the same as being cut. That's how they got picks for several guys like Revis and Dante Stallworth and I think Wilfork. They have money because Brady takes about half as much as he should be making. Brady's cap hits have been way cheaper than Ben's over the last several years.

Patrick Chung, LeGarrette Blount and Devin McCourty all say hello.

back to the OP, yeah I think a vet presence that could play some DE/DT is a must. In another thread I mentioned Gilberry as and affordable player to bring, knighton is a goner
Terrance Knighton signed a one year contract with the Redskins worth $4.45 million with $2.95 million in guarantees.
, I wouldn't have paid that for him, not with how little a NT is used here and he isn't that great to start with

He is still a FA,

my mistake, that was his 2015 contract. Still, he will probably look for no less than his previous 1-Y contract or somehting close to it

He won't get it and has had only 1 visit, to the Pats. He will prob sign for 2 mil/yr, no one wants to pay his price.

We are definitely looking at adding depth to the D-line (we also brought in Mike Martin formerly of the Titans last week), but it looks like we're looking at guys who may end up signing for the minimum.
