Not one word mentioned about depression

I think, as many of us thought, the missed drug tests had nothing to do with MB being depressed. Surely, between he and Colbert, someone would have brought it up if that was the case.

Not a peep. Nothing.

Words are cheap, Bryant. We heard this Mea culpa before. Your actions speak so loudly, I can't hear what you are saying.

Yea, and if he wrote that apology speech himself, I am one of Youtube's top 10 cutest kittens.

I agree. Usually, the Steelers defend their own a bit better, especially if he's a game changing player like Bryant.

I can only surmise that Bryant simply doesn't care anymore.

How much is Bryant worth to the team? In games he did not play over the past two season, the offense scored 6.4 fewer points a game. WOW.

I just hope he steers clear of the easily influenced players or immature players on the team.

6.4 fewer points total or a game?

I assume he won't get paid at all during his suspension, right?

If so, he never made a major pay day yet, so he is likely to run out of money. We will see if he doesn't start caring more after he is broke.

Most of us would have enough cash in the bank after making aprox. $800k the last two years (combined, including signing bonus, etc.). But if he is typical of this kind of player, he probably spent a lot of it already (although that's A LOT of hippie lettuce).

He is staring right into the abyss, but hard to believe, he could still end up making huge money, if he stays clean and rips it up in 2017. But event then, his next contract will not be as high as it would be, considering he is a risk to be suspended yet again.

It's hard to believe he could possibly be that stupid, but the fact he screwed up again, this time around, proves to not underestimate his pure idiocy.

Depressed, my ***.

NOW maybe he _is_ depressed.

Ba Bye, $25,000 game checks.

That's almost as much as Teet's maid makes.

Why is he still on the team?

What's the difference between him and Santonio? Or maybe there's more to the story?

There's no downside to holding on to him. He's not paid and if he actually gets his head together we still have him for another 2 years at reasonable cost. Santanio let go because he was supposedly a cancer in the locker room.

I'd be depressed too if I knew I had to take a drug test, that I KNOW I would fail, and that failure would keep me from playing football for a year...

I'll take a stab at it, a hypothesis, if you will.

1.) Timing. At the time Holmes got busted, it was during the Ben "controversy" and the Steelers were already reeling with a PR black eye. Having another PR hit during that time was very bad timing. The Rooneys were already very pissed about Ben being a pig, and then this happens on the heels of that? They felt the need to prove their family image, as their rep was being tarnished, so an example had to be made, and that example was you, Homey.

2.) Holmes value, contract amount. Santonio was still in his prime, but was being paid as a 1st-round pick, not a 4th-rounder. MB is a much better value for his price tag.

3.) MB isn't known as a team leader. But he also isn't a negative presence. Holmes was viewed at not a total team guy. He wasn't a cancer, but no one would mistake his 'tude for Heath Miller or Hines ward. Hence, you become a headache for the team, beat it, kid. Super Bowl MVP or not, you ain't bigger than the team. Message sent.

All true. That is why Colbert actually came out to say that the team never considered cutting MB, that's how much of a difference there is.

And, adding to the depression, knowing I went from making $400k a year to zero. That would depress me too. Not to mention, this likely puts a big ding into his next deal, even if he stays clean from now until then. No one is going to back up the brinks truck to a several time FAIL on drug tests. If he stayed clean until his next deal, and continued his upward production trend, he'd be looking at a deal worth $20 million GUARANTEED, $40 million overall. (That's what Marvin Jones just got, and MB is a bigger weapon.) That's a ton of cache to have just go up in smoke. That takes a real moron to F that up.

You owe Deutsche Bank a new keyboard and monitor...#sodaspewer

LMAO. Now, you owe __ME__ a new keyboard. Consider us even. :tears_of_joy:

No, he won't get paid. 65-70% of NFL players have little or no net worth 5 years after retirement. This is why I think the NFL Union should up their benefits post retirement ( I think you need to play 4 years to get them ), and perhaps agree with the owners to lower the salary cap a bit.

He'll be off the roster probably next year. We let Holmes go after a Super Bowl MVP season. I just don't see the Steelers keeping him around, especially if Coates plays well.

Colbert came out and specifically mentioned they never even considered cutting him, at this point. They will give him 1 more chance, if he is coming in at a bargain.

Without a doubt, but if he farts loud on suspension he'll probably be gone. He will have to be in full Choir boy mode for the next year to retain his spot. If Coates stinks it up then MB may have some wiggle room. Otherwise, he'll be in New England this time next year....or Dallas.

I keep telling you. This is an addiction issue.

Just because he doesn't have the DT's doesn't mean he isn't physiologically and psychologically addicted. This could be the best thing that ever happened to the kid if he has the mental fortitude to withstand it.

Or, it could ruin him. Time will tell.

Cope knows what he's talking about

Really it is quite simple, the reaction to this.

Some of you are arrogant and think you are just above it all. This could never happen to you because you are too strong, or self disciplined or whatever.

Others of us realize this very important point: Oh, but for the grace of God go I.

I choose not to pile on the guy, because I realize that I could be a step away from that. Maybe not with weed, as I hate smoke, but with booze. I enjoy my beer.

Here is the difference: Stonio was arrorgant and unrepentant. Sure, he said apologetic things but they must have come off as fake given he would turn around and brag about his drug use on twitter. MB, apparently, has been honest and humble about his issues.

Its my understanding that Darren Perry had some drinking issues back when we first drafted him. He was honest about it and was honestly trying to get better, so the team stuck by him. I can see them doing the same with MB. Stonio was more like Bam Morris, just a train wreck waiting to happen and didn't care.

I enjoy my beer too...juss sayin. If we go into rehab we can drink a few and talk Steelers ball together. No depression though. If I'm gonna be an addicted alcoholic I'm gonna have fun and bang the psycho hot chick that checked in for drug addiction

Anywho case being. Martavis has the time and resources and money to get whatever his head is on out of the gutter. Dont hear about him being a locker room cancer. But he's down on his luck right now

I'm all about helping a brother out and getting him right. When he's on the field he's a force, so I say give the kid a chance, but his leash will be very short.

Meh... Me. I could care less if he plays again. I am hoping he gets his life straightened out. If football ends up being apart of it...then great. If not who cares. If he beats what ever he is fighting he will come out a winner.

I don't base my life around pampered arrogant athletes. They come and they go, him getting his life together or not does not matter one bit to me. He had a Golden Ticket, chose to smoke it away, welcome to the real world, now he has to figure out where his next paycheck is going to come from. I would be willing to bet he does not have a rainy day fund that will carry him through the next year.

BTW - doesn't he have a few children too? Good luck making those payments , most judges don't reduce you payments because you are stupid.
