Sean Spence. The next to leave?

Best of luck to Sean Spence. He really overcame a lot to become a solid backup for the Steelers. I hope he is able to have a long career. With that said, the Steelers have a very good backup with Vince Williams.

Can't keep everyone. So far I like who we've kept and have zero issues with who they lost. McClendon and Spence are just guys. Nothing special. Beachum I think turned out much better than anyone could have hoped for and I would have preferred that we kept him but I'm ok with the Harris Villy battle and may the best LT win. I'm glad we did not overpay for an aging safety in Weddle and knew damn well the one trick pony had as much chance of coming back to the Steelers as Coach has of writing an intelligent post. Just kidding Coach. All good with their moves so far.

I'm happy for Spence, but would have been happier if he was able to stay on. A lot of heart, drive, and a nose for the ball. He'll be a good addition to LeBeau's D in Tennessee.

Happy for Spence. I think they might have got a discount if he was going to start but you can't blame a guy. Sometimes it is just circumstance. I think it is like the Steelers getting Green. He was a Starter stuck behind a pro bowler. They couldn't pay him or decided not to dump Gates. Steelers right place right time.

Maybe Mr. Zumwalt is poised to be the new 4th ILB. If Garvin returns (haven't seen if he signed elsewhere yet) he could compete for the spot and he is decent on STs...should be cheap.

The purging of the midgets. I like it. In the AFC North, the threat of a quick tackle just doesn't cut it.

Here is a borderline related topic....Has anyone heard anything about Jason Jones from Detroit visiting?

We're also getting a comp pick for him too.

I'm far from an expert on how compensatory picks are given, but it has to do with how much you lost in free agency in terms of dollars and how much you spent on new free agents.

The Green deal was a big one that can cancel out McClendon and Spence.

Beachum's deal I think will be worth a 4th round pick, but after singing Harris might be downgraded to a 5th.

I believe that Beachum will cancel out Green and Harris will cancel out Spence, leaving a 6th for McClendon,

Garvin signed for the redskins, we will miss his ST play

True, I'm not sure exactly how they do the comp picks myself to be honest so that was really just wishful thinking on my part. But looks like Blake just got signed to Steelers south so will be interesting if we get anything for him lol.

This kills our depth at ILB, because Shazier has been injury prone, Williams will more than likely have to start at some point, but who the hell will back him up.

Spence ought to play for what they were offering, considering that he got full pay for two years of not playing.

Right, because the Steelers chose to keep him around and pay him. He didn't put a gun to their heads and demand that they not give him an injury settlement. Did the Steelers even tender him?

I agree in principle, but what would we do if we were in his shoes? You got to make the cash while you can. Plus, who doesn't want to start? Can't blame the kid.
