If Gay leaves in free agency. Pick the choice that best defines what you think.

I don't think they would have to overpay him..... and for someone who fits the scheme why would you go in another direction when already possibly having to replace the other side?

I would prefer his return.......

I can't believe we are even talking about a B rate corner back that is 31 years old and displayed all year that his wheels were fading. He's lucky to even make the team next year let alone bust out in free agency...again. Damn guys, are we that desperate that scraps are now culinary delights ?

As far as I'm concerned, this juvenile display could be his last in da Burg and I wouldn't mind a bit.

It's time to move on to some real talent back there and stop depending on marginal players the likes of William Gay, he doesn't even show up on PFF's top 75 FA's fur Christ sake.

If Gay is a B rate corner, the rest of the guys we have are C-'s, D's and F's.

I would say Gay is among the best 25 corners in the NFL. A legit #1 starter, and play making type.

In the past two seasons Gay has 5 interceptions, 4 TD's, and 20 passes defended. He also did not give up one touchdown this year. How many corners can boast better? Not too many. Gay in my opnion is a bit better than grade B.

Wouldn't break my heart either Steel Chip, and I really hope we don't overpay him. I'd much rather bring back Boykin to go with Cockrell outside and slip Golson into the slot. Slap a high pick playmaker at S on the backend and focus on generating pass rush.

Timmons and Poncey are overpaid. There's no way the Steelers will Gay a contract on their level. For our team Gay is worth at least what Mitchell got as a contract, or as much as the Steelers unwittingly gave Cortez Allen. Agreed?

Disagree Coach. Timmy is in final year and will get extended to lower his hit, his contract has been fair. Pouncey when healthy is worth his contract, problem is the whole "when healthy" part. As a sweatpants model Pouncey is vastly overpaid, here's to a healthy season for him-we need it.

I don't think Gay is worth what Mitchell is getting paid and definitely not into repeating and compounding mistakes. Because we gave Cortez a horrible contract in no way justifies overpaying Gay. So your logic is we're pissing away 5-6 million on Cortez why don't we further hamstring ourselves by pissing away another 5-6 million in Gay's direction?

Couldn't disagree more. We get into a better position moving forward by not repeating our mistakes.

Its crossed my mind that they cut timmons, who is in his early 30's and give spense that role... Timmons has years left but not many

I like TImmons. I was for drafting him, and veiw him as a very solid player who gives his all and gets good results. But he's being paid like Luke Kechly, ( Timmons cap number is much higher in 2016 ) and he's not that special.

I'll take number 3. I've never cared for him.

Timmons ia a pro bowl level ilb, but not a hof one... Its best to cut ties with him a year early than a year late especially if you have a potential prime replacement in reach

I think Gay will come back assuming he doesn't break the bank. My guess is that it will be roughly a 3 year deal for between 12 and 15 million. There are so many teams that need to spend a crap ton of money in order to reach the salary floor. 3/12 will cost something like 3/4/5 vs the cap over the next 3 seasons and will add about 2.5m to our cap after displacing a contract from the top 51. 3/15 may just be too much as it would likely cost 4/5/6 and ding us for 3.5m this year after displacement. I doubt he'll sign for something like 2/7 because surely someone will give him a decent one year offer if they have plenty of cap room. A cap hit of 4million would make him roughly the 35th highest paid corner in the league, which seems reasonable.

I'm not sure how exactly he rates to Tramon Williams but that guy got 3/21 last offseason at a similar age.

you really should see the average salary, not the 2016. Kuechly's avg is 12,3M while Timmons is 9,5M, that's a big difference

I respect your opinion coach but I beg to differ, like I said, if you look at the top 75 FA's on PFF's site, you will not see his name or Blake's anywhere. Boykin is listed at #58. As far as the other guys being c's d's and f's, I won't argue that point either. Gay's real position strength is in the slot but he's our best outside corner now that ain't sayin a whole bunch is it ?

Fact is, we need some serious help back there next year and if Gay signs anything more than a vet minimum I'll be shocked. He has been around enough (like Will Allen) to know the system but I wouldn't bet money on him winning many man on mans. There a good reason why we play mostly zone coverage's with 15 yd cushions. I watch some of the other teams play tight coverage and just shake my head, no way our guys pull that off.

That's my opinion and I'm stickin' to it by golly.

The Gay not giving up a TD stat is misleading as well. There were a few times a guy blew right past him when he was in a zone but should've picked up the man as he had no over the top help. The resulting TD not assigned to him because he was in a zone not man coverage.

I'm with Steel Chip and prefer Boykin as well moving forward. While Boykin isn't a shut down corner he is better in man coverage than Gay and has equal or better ball skills. Not to say I wouldn't welcome Gay back, but certainly not at some of the higher totals people have been throwing around. I think somewhere between the vet minimum SteelChip suggests and the 3 year 12 million is where his true value is for us.

That's what I wanted to read. Thank you. I think Gay is worth a more than 3.5 million a year, or 2 years for 7 million.

He's a good starting corner, See what they go for in free agency. The Titan's appear to be way under the Cap. LeBeau is likely a fan of Gay's. Just saying...

I guess my 2 year 7 million was even more than we ended up at, 3 years 7.5 M. Definitely nowhere near the 8 million a year you were suggesting Coach, and no crow to eat here haha!

No crow. I said on post #15

Unless Gay plays for 2-3 million a year, I think he's changing teams.

^^^Looks like I was correct.

Also I never said he would get 8 million, I said if he does he's leaving.

I'm just very happy we kept him!
