End of the year review on Jarvis Jones.

Just think, our head coach chose to describe JJ's season as "solid." Just think about that.

Either Tomlin is a liar, or he is not too bright. The starting OLB in the Steelers 3-4 D better be at least be approaching double digit sacks, or the whole system is in trouble. Harrison, Porter, Lloyd.....those were legit OLB. JJ is no where close.

I hope he's willing to play one more year on the cheap (he's due in the neighborhood of $1.25 million next year).

That's up to him. I tend to think he's back for one more season.

Tomlin is guilty of coachspeak. If he really thinks that we have some issues as his talent evaluation has been off a bit too much.

It might shock some, but Ziggy H00d had 3 sacks in 3 separate seasons with the Steelers. Jarvis has not reached that mark yet, and H00d was no pass rusher!

I sense that some here feel we are beating a dead horse. My reply, a bad starter who costs us is not a dead horse! Once he's off the team ( Like Hood ) he just another first round bust and won't be a whipping boy as often.

If the Defense can find average starters to replace Jones and Blake, we will be much better off.

Could have had Xavier Rhodes or, my hopefully draft pick at the time, Tyler Eifert?!!!

Do you think Eifert would have started the last 3 yrs. over Miller? Or been the blocking TE?

Living in the past, I really wanted Jamie Collins. He lasted until pick 52, but I think his play clearly shows he was first round talent. How nice would it be yo have got a LB that can cover TEs as well as rush the passer? I thought Jarvis would be a decent player as well tho, my bad there

I certainly believe he'd be offering us better value in the offense the Steelers now run, than what Jarvis has offered for the defense, and yes, that's even WITH Heath still a part of the offensive game plan.

It's not guaranteed. We can exercise it now (remember it's his fifth year, 2017 season) and then cut him (without ANY penalty) if he doesn't have a strong 2016 season.

As long as he doesn't get seriously injured. Which given how things works means he's about to suffer some serious injury.

I guess I'm fine with picking it up but if he's not showing anything by a certain point next season(week 10?) he should be benched permanently so that he can't get hurt.

If he hasn't shown really anything to this point, I doubt he will next season. The guys has been in the league 3 seasons and has 5 career sacks. Bud Dupree has 4 this season.

When you consider the defense Is usually using Hayward and tuitt at tackle with the outside linebacker lined up as rush ends 2 sacks will hardly cut it. With that defense it's testimony to how good Hayward and tuitt are. They are one of the best young de tandem out there.

I also was big on Collins that year

Jarvis sucks. He should be peaking. Instead he is sucking.

Starting to get the feeling Coach doesn't like Jarvis Jones.

He simply does not have the speed, watching Von Miller coming around the edge compaired to jones is nite and day. Horrible mistake drafting jones. Howard jones did pretty good in a 4-3 at tbay. We should have kept him, the only reason we didn't was jones was drafted and Howard wasn't. Howard jones at camp stood out as a great athlete. Too many screw ups in the front office and jones is a big one.

I think he pretty much sucks too but the Rooney's seem to like those year to year type deals and nobody wants to admit that they drafted a complete flop.

Amazing to think about this. BUD DUPREE had 4 sacks in his rookie part time play year. Uncle Jarvis had 2 in his 3rd season (21/4 deducting injury) Think about that...... Jarvis best show something in training camp, then pre-season, then 1st 4 season games. IF not, bench with NO play unless dynamic injury calls for it.

Salute the nation

Just to keep a little perceptive on Jones. Mingo, who was a top 10 olb pick the same year- 24 t-0 sacks last yr. Gregory, who many here wanted last year-11t-0 sacks last year.

Gregory was hurt last year, so watch how he develops. He is a bad example. Mingo, however, is relatable.

That sucks too! But that doesn't make it ok

Jarvis was hurt much of his second year...

His ceiling is low he wasn't worth the position he was drafted but some of you take this to the extreme acting like he doesn't even deserve a spot on the bench or something. He's a serviceable player. He actually played quite well in the playoffs not that some of you will ever give him an ounce of credit.
