Is Cam the new prototype QB?

I always thought that Cam plays a lot like Ben but is a much better runner. I really like watching him play. Also his #1 WR is Ted Ginn. If Benjamin was healthy he'd have better accuracy numbers.

Exactly.....He basically has no WRs this year. Imagine if he had our WR core. No matter how big he is those runs / dives into the endzone will get him killed one day.

All these people saying that he has no weapons around him have to be joking. First and foremost he has a GREAT running game around him. He might be missing his "#1" WR in Benjamin, a second year player, but they still have Cochery who is one of the most underrated WR in the game. He only led the Steelers in TD catches his last year here as the #3/#4 WR. And lets not forget about Greg Olsen, who is one of the best TE's in all of football. 77 receptions over 1100 yards and 7 TD's. And then you have Ginn Jr., he might not be the best route runner, or have the best hands in the league, but he's effective for the same reason that Mike Wallace and Heyward-Bey are...He's BLAZING fast. The no weapons thing is a huge exaggeration...

As for the accuracy comments, he's one of the tallest QB's in the league, yet he gets passes batted at the LOS more often than Russell Wilson because he has a sidearm throwing motion. He was under 60% completion percentage for the year. I'm not going to say he didn't have a great year, and that he hasn't made strides in the right direction, but he is not one of the most accurate QB's out there. He still has room to grow.

Yep see Randall Cunningham, Kordell, Vick, etc, all were the new prototype, none have won ****

Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers are both excellent runners who've won the big dance.

and Newton will be beaten like a drum by the Broncos who will light up his ***.

Remember that you said this.

On second thought, I'll make it my business to REMIND YOU that you said this.

That's the thing.. A lot of these QBs who are only good because they're mobile have about 1 "flash in the pan" year where defenses aren't ready for them, then they get figured out and they're done for. RGIII, Vince Young, Kaepernick all come to mind. But Cam's mobility, while making him better, doesn't define him. That's why he's only gotten better in the league. He is actually dedicated to learning the craft of playing NFL QB beyond being a great athlete.

How much would you like to wager? Let's do this.

I want him to make a wager with hard, cold cash.

Cam is no different than the running QB's that came before him. He is having a great year. Let's see where it goes from here. Is he the best thrower? Not even close. He is doing well because of his running. When that slows or goes away, I seriously doubt he will do nearly as well and won't even be considered a top 5 or even top 10 QB.

You obviously haven't watched Cam play one game. Cam doesn't run on a passing plays unless absolutely forced too. He stands in the pocket and can make every throw and then some. The difference is he can run all the DESIGNED runs and not worry about injury because of his stature. But to say he is like all other running QBs shows you haven't watched him play at all.

That exactly right, and why I said so in the OP. Running ability is just icing on the cake; Cam can actually play the position in a traditional manner if he wants to. He is an accurate pocket passer with virtually no one to throw to. Ted Ginn has no hands. Next year, he will get Benjamin back, they will add a FA WR and they will draft one.

On the $, Antdrewjosh. I didn't realize so many didn't actually perceive how Cam is different than the past running QBs. If you haven't noticed the difference, you haven't watched him play this season.

If any one doesn't think Cam can read a defense is flat out wrong. Think Warren Moon in a bigger body.

Cam is having a good year but he is a gimmick QB like every other gimmick QB. The better defenses contain him and force him to work making reads and throwing the ball. Then after a few years when he slows a step he's got nothing. See Mike Vick.

Vick NEVER learned to read defenses and throw accurately in the pocket. Cam already has. Cam ain't no gimmick. If he were, tell me how a gimmick win 17 games in one season. Vick NEVER did that. If you can't see Cam is far superior to a Vick, please have your eye vision tested.

Shame that dudes don't watch Cam but know he is athletic and can run, and just immediately lump him in the "gimmick QB" category. You'll be eating those words after SB50

Actually, Cunningham was almost 30 years ago now that I think of it.

Cunningham developed into a good pocket passer as he got older. So did Steve Young. It can be done.

Hate it or Love it, Cam Newton is a winner. Heisman Trophy winner, College National Champion, This year's NFL MVP....he may also add Super Bowl Champion and Super Bowl MVP to the resume while were at it. Hard to argue with what he has and may accomplish.

Gimmick QB? The guy has been in the league for 4 years now! What? GM's dont have tape on the guy by now?

Weapons? His #1 receiver (Tedd Ginn) is most notable for having hands of stone! People kept saying Brady/Rodgers lacked weapons this year- but compare their skill players to Cams.

They have a great running game? They have a great running game BECAUSE of Cam. J.Stewart only had 989 yards this season- Cam had close to 650 himself. In fact, Cam averaged 4.8 yards a clip!

Instead of using the lazy logic ("Oh he's just another XYZ"), some of you have to watch him play. Its quite impressive.

Cam has the arm and throws a nice deep ball. That what's separates him from the other big tree qbs. Watch the Ohio state qb rise up the draft charts if Carolina wins.

Rookie of the year, first rookie ever to throw for 4k in a season, is already second all time on the franchise passing list.

But, yeah. It's all gimmick. I wonder how many Super Bowls one wins before it stops being a gimmick?

BTW: they said the same thing about Russell Wilson and the option. He's already off to a Hall Of Fame start, while INDY's "Greatest Quarterback Prospect Of All Time" is like 30th in passer rating and missed half the season.

What's that they always say? "It's a copycat league".

You forgot one thing in there... GREAT offensive line. Cam has all day and night to throw and that is why he is succeeding with average and below average receivers.

Not a fan of Cam but there is no denying that he is playing at a very high level and is definitely a very capable pocket passers.

Cam was compared to Ben coming in the league. When he wins a SB, that comparison will be right.

Also, why is it that the "new prototypical Quartarback" term always seems to be given to black QBs? Seems a bit racist to me. These guys are mobile athletes who can throw the ball. It will always be difficult defending that type of talent, no matter what era you play in.

It also helps any QB when you have a defense that plays the way Carolina's is playing. Cam is playing good football, no doubt. Just remember though, it takes a whole bunch of guys to win it all in this league.

I will say this much though. Denver isn't stopping the steamroller that is the Carolina Panthers. This one is gonna be a laugher, and Cam Newton will play a positive, significant role.

No, he's not the new prototype. They've been trying this prototype for 20 years with limited success. Cam is the first one that worked and it took him a few years. It'll be interesting to see how long he can maintain it and/or stay healthy.

No, Cam is not the first ... Tarkenton, Elway and Young. Tarkenton was more of a scrambler than a runner, but Young and Elway when they were younger (especially Young) were runners. Elway was a better passer, but it took Young a few years to develop his passing game.

Newton came out today and again showed his stupidity saying being a black QB with his skill set scares people, what a ducking moron. I guess stealing the laptop at Florida, putting his name on another person's exam and then buying an exam online didn't make you smart you piece of ****. Your dad trying to get $250 000 to play at Miss State also is an example of your stupidity, this guy talks like a ******* moron fora reason, he DUMB

Denver has a much better defense than the Panthers and will.never be blown out by a team led by Newton. Newton can't read a defense and Von Miller will make this ***** his prison ***** , he will throw at least 3 hints and lose big.
